My last visit to Vapiano was a great experience but there was a small thing missing, dessert. The one dessert that caught my eye was the Death By Chocolate cake so I have been on a mission to try this cake. I can happily say I survived the death by chocolate cake but can understand the name. It's so rich with chocolate that it shocks your heart and your taste buds. If you like chocolate fudge with chocolate icing then this is right up your alley. I recently started taking German classes and learned the word Geil. So I was taught that Geil means horny. Anyway while my girlfriend was eating this cake she kept saying this cake is Geil and I kept wondering how a cake can be horny until she told me that apparently it means awesome as well just another reason why the German language is so confusing. Honestly though the cake was Geil (awesome) and would be a great dessert after an awesome meal. read more

Vapiano - I survived the Death By Chocolate Cake. It's was delicious! - Italian Near Me - Cologne, NW

Found this place while wandering around the area looking for something to eat late at night. It's a great idea- you get an electronic card on arrival, and then you go to different stations (pizza, pasta, bar, etc) to order your food using this card. Once you've finished, you pay individually using your card. Makes it great for groups! Now onto the food. I ordered the salami pizza and a coke- which was less that €10! And it was TASTY. Very nice, no skimping on the cheese. All in all, it's definitely recommended. And if German is not your language the system is really easy to figure out, so don't worry!!! read more

I really thought this was a good idea and sounded like a fun place to eat but upon entering i found it to be more like a college commissary. Maybe I just wasn't in the stand in line to serve yourself mood but i found this place to somewhat confusing. The prices are a bit high for a 'wait here while i make it real quick' spot, it was noisy, it was crowded, unghhh! My friends were satisfied but personally it was a real patience test for me. read more

I work and live nearby and have been to this place at least 15 times. Vapiano does a good job but not a great job at what they do. The pasta and pizza dough are made fresh there. They use good ingredients. The staff is great, but it is self-servicey to keep prices down. The drinks are expensive. It is nice and clean, but corporate-like. The seats are uncomfortable. They do have outdoor picnic tables. They maximize profits by filling you up on carbohydrates, and you get starch-tired after eating there. Except for the salads, which are good, but small. I want to rate this place higher, but can't justify it. It's worth trying if you kind-of want to try it, but don't burn it on a good date or a special occasion. Good for a not-really-relaxing lunch. read more

I'm not sure why there's multiple chains of this restaurant or why Cologneans enjoy it so much... If one's in a pinch and can't think of any other place to go, then by all means. The food was blain and overpriced, the service was mediocre and place is just another chainstore. So many other places to try. Went there once and I'm never going back. read more

I am not a Vapiano fan but when a friend surprise visited me in Cologne for the afternoon - we decided to walk to the closest bar and grab a few drinks. Vapiano worked! We were able to get our spritzers and sit out in the sun ... We even had an espresso afterwards. read more

Food is mediocre, but what I would like to bring your attention to is a situation I encountered here. First of all, I am not from Germany. I ordered takeout and two of the employees... the one behind the counter and the other chatting with her were laughing when I was telling them what I wanted in German. By laughing, I mean burst out laughing. I'm not sure what was so funny, but I'm trying to speak the language to accommodate the fact that the Va Piano employees don't speak a lick of English. In addition, the food that I ordered was not even correct and could have caused a serious issue as I asked for gluten free. Probably the owners of this restaurant won't even be able to understand this review as I'm sure they don't know any language other than their own. read more
