Poorly done.
Michelle H.

In January, I made an appointment at this salon. Quite a few years ago, I had my hair done by the owner here. I was satisfied with the outcome of my hair and found her to be professional. The experience I had on my first visit here does not reflect the experience I had on my second visit. In the morning of my scheduled appointment with Ambar, she contacted me and requested that we reschedule an hour before I was supposed to arrive. It was fine with me as I am very understanding. I was asked to come in the next day at 8 am. As I arrive at the salon on time, all the lights are off, and there is no one in the salon. When I text her to let her know that I have arrived, she responds that she is running a few minutes late. After waiting for a while outside, she eventually arrived. I showed her a picture of my end goal (which I knew would take quite a few session to achieve), she began working on my hair. My hair was sectioned off by her and then her apprentice completed the rest of the work while she only applied lightener to the front portion of my hair, blow dried it, and cut it herself. My hair had previously been dyed, but I was not aware that it was permanent. Therefore, my hair did not lighten as we expected. Not her fault at all. There was no indication that she was interested in trying to fix it, she gave me no option, she told me that she would just add a red toner and call it a day. Did not even try to cancel out the warmth, but insisted on making my hair bright red. By this time, I was beyond irritated having witnessed her apprentice handle most of the work while she took another client at the same time. I sat in the wash bowl for over 20 minutes. The quality of the work I received was not worth the price she charged me. I couldn't wait to get out of there. As I have attended beauty school, I am very understanding, and sometimes I might be too kind, but this girl was GREEDY. It seemed as though she did not care about the quality of her work, but rather had a purely financial motive. I am currently undergoing a second session of a costly color correction. Now, I have a stylist who is AMAZING and actually cares about the integrity and outcome of my hair. Ladies, please refrain from going here.

This review is for Ambar. I believe she is at Vanity Studio I think it's still under the same company just separate location. I found her a couple years ago off yelp. And she had been able to transform my black hair to the hair I've wanted. I've gone multiple times and understand that it does take multiple sessions to get to where I want especially because my hair is black. She has good service every time and is extremely nice. She has good vision even when I myself don't know what I want to do.

The second time around wasn't the best. I asked for ash blonde and got brown instead. Also, the stylist was late and tried to move my appointment twice. I traveled far for this appointment and like your time is valuable, so is mine.

I've known Ambar for some time & she has been doing my hair for last 3 years. Every session I've had with her whether its just a toner or change of color, I always feel happy& feeling like a new women leaving her chair. She is one of the kindest, thoughtful person i've ever met. Whether she's 8 months pregnant or not she goes above and beyond your expectations. I highly recommend booking with Ambar and along with her Assistant/right hand Lei! Looking forward on my next session

I did ombré few years ago, and this is my first balayage. This is the few salons in Concord area doing balayage. So why not a try. My hair stylist Ambar is very nice and funny person. She nailed my hair goals!!!

I have been living in East Bay since 1998. I FINALLY found a stylist I am completely satisfied with. No lie!!! What a transformation! I feel and look 10 years younger! I just love my new hairdo. The color and cut. Ambar at Vanity specializes in color. I cannot tell you how knowledgable she is. During my color and cut, she gave me so many pointers of how to care for hair and educated me about coloring. Ambar knew exactly what I wanted and delivered. I had hard time explaining what I wanted cause I was not sure on exact cut would look best. Ambar suggestions were what I envisioned but did not know the technical terms for. What a creator Go see Ambar! She has her own trendy hair style, which matters to me. Ambar so good youd have to wait a month and half to see her. NO MORE BOX HAIR DYES!!! SEE AMBAR! CHECK HER OUT ON INSTAGRAM AT lahuetesbeauty

Finally found a salon in the Bay Area that specializes in balayages! Loved my ashy balayage by hair stylist, Jessica. This is the lightest my hair has been & looking forward to my next appointment to reach my hair goals

Unfortunately after washing my hair and examining it more, it was completely damaged. My hair was "stretchy" and "elastic." The strands were completely unhealthy. My color is fading out much quickly than usual. I would have been happier if my hair still had its integrity but this was not the case. I'm super sad now because I now have dead and damaged hair on my head. She def used to much level 40 vol developer on my hair. She should have done a strand test before proceeding.

Love the ashy blonde color by Carisa

This review is for Carisa who I've seen about 3-4 times now. I've always been terrified of doing anything with my hair and never had a consistent salon I've gone to, just having never found anything that I really liked enough to go back. I found Carisa on Yelp and have loved what she's done for me. The last two times I've gone in for "ashy/blonde" being a natural brunette and loved the color each time. It's been 5 months since my last color and I still get compliments on the color weekly. The price can be a bit steep, approx ~$145 without cut, ~$165 with but if you maintain your hair, can get away with only going 1-2x a year depending on how picky you are about your hair as well. Carisa is friendly, responsive and has never been late/cancelled any appointments which I appreciate.

Ask the Community - Vanity Salon

How much is scalp treatment and cut?

Will the bayalage ever cost more than $200?

I have really long hair and I went and they charge me a total of 235$ for a bayalage AND a haircut. So maybe like $185 for the hair color and the haircut like $50?

How much is bayalage?

Starting 175+

We are looking for a good place for prom hair and makeup. Does Vanity do both?

Prom hair with Maria Orozco is $25 for a hair do.

Does it cost for them to curl after dye?

No

How much the highlight?

150-175, depends on the length I think

Does anyone know the price of a balayage for long hair at this place? =) I'm new in town and I'm trying to find a good, not too expensive, hair salon. Thanks!

They start at 145. Depends on the stylist.

About how much is it for prom hairstyling?

I actually don't know the prices for hair styling but you can always contact the salon they will help with prices

Jee also has a genuinely friendly personality. I'm already looking forward to my hair growing out so I can have her cut it again. The staff and owner of the salon are also very friendly, and I feel like I can trust them with my hair as well. Overall, my experience has been wonderful, and I can't wait to come back.

I also had bangs that were slightly uneven so I asked her to fix that. The lady who cut my hair asked if I wanted I blow out, I told her no, I wanted to walk out with wet hair to see how it would dry naturally since that's what I do regularly. She was apprehensive but I was firm that drying naturally was what I wanted and that I didn't want to the appointment to take longer due to drying. She cut a good 8 inches off, the left and right sides were different lengths, the layers were super choppy, random, and uneven. The ends were not thinned out how I wanted and she didn't touch my bangs. At the end she said "I know you didn't want a blow out but I'm going to do it anyway" literally. She curled the ends and when I left I noticed the ends were uneven. I don't know if she curled them thinking I wouldn't notice but it was hard to miss. I was really sad to lose that much of my length since it took me so long to grow out and I wasn't expecting to get it cut, only a trim which by the way was $90 (partly because the cut was an hour and drying was another whole hour so I had to pay for 2 hours even though I didn't want the blow out) but I went back in because it was too bad to wear in public and this was less than a week before Christmas. I went back in, I told her my hair was really choppy, she said "well you asked for layers" I told her "but this isn't layers this is random pieces of different length, there are longer pieces on top of shorter pieces. She got really defensive and said I kept "moving my head." No I didn't and even if that had been true blaming the customer is just a really bad way to run a business when I'm just asking it to get fixed. I told her I wanted my bangs fixed as well and because they were uneven, she said "you came in like that" I told her "I know but I wanted you to fix them" during this argument the manager came in and had me sit down, he told me they could fix it and had another girl start working on my layers, he said that he would take care of the bangs. The Second Lady working on my hair in my opinion was really rude, she pointed out some grey hairs and I said "I know I have more of them in other places" she said "how old are you?" I told her 25 and she made a face that seemed extremely judgmental. I also notice while she was cutting my hair, she held the scissors and comb in the same hand and while combing my hair I saw her accidentally cut pieces an inch away from my scalp and I felt the scissors tug as I saw her wave LONG pieces of hair away multiple times. She also kept commenting on how thick and tangly my hair was which felt insulting. As I was in there the second time, TWO other customers came in separately saying they were coming back because they had issues with how their hair had been done, the manager didn't respond with "ok let's fix it" even when I noticed the customer wasn't trying to argue they were willing to pay more they just wanted more done, but the manager was very defensive about explaining "this is how it's done" blah blah blah when in my opinion it would have been better to say "what you asked for is ____ this is what we did but if you want more than that would be ____ it will cost more to get you want you want but we can definitely do that if that's what you want". By the time I was done I had been in there for over 2 hours just with the second time I went. I didn't have any layers when I left they basically just cut my length to the shortest piece the first girl left me with which made my ends sprawl out since I had really thick hair and my hair was about boob length now, my bangs had more heft but I didn't like the way they framed my face, to be honest I just wanted to get out of there, I had clearly made a huge mistake going back. When you go to a hair stylist, make sure you go to a place where you know they will LISTEN to what you want, not do some random stuff or get defensive when you asked for something different. I didn't take a picture of my hair after the second appointment, the length wasn't badly cut it just wasn't what I asked for, not thinned or layered at all, and like 13 inches shorter than what I wanted, I've had it cut since then by a hair stylist who LISTENS to what you ask for.
