Years of enforced poverty forced me to seek out the Tesco Value 'blue stripe' - my larder looked like the Brighton and Hove Albion home stand for years! Their bread was especially vile. It was 9p a loaf & I felt cheated. It was like candy floss! Time moves on and those debts were settled. All that remains is my irrational hatred of thinly sliced white bread. So I go here. Wholemeal, granary, low GCI (whatever that is!) or seeded: I'm a 'regular' guy & I intend to keep it that way!!! These guys are Artisans of the first order & their bread rocks. I could eat it all day long but I need to make space & time for their taste-tastic Millionaires (you know, biscuit base, caramel & choc, the size of half a sandwich ideally!!!) too. I love the sandwichs, which you can pick ready made or request for them to make them fresh whilst you wait. The choice of hot food includes sausage rolls, slices, pasties to name a few and are always really tasty. The kids always ask for one of their really lovely gingerbread men, its the only place they will eat them from so thats got to say something! Staff are always polite and the shop has a welcoming feel to it.

They used to sell gresh bread, cakes and pasties as well as having a acfe but now they are mainly a cafe/coffee shop. I find the pasties and slices to be the best value and quality. The baquettes are very expensive and not always very fresh. The drinks are extremly expensive. There tables and chairs are all comfy and they have a few good quality high chairs availiable. The toilet facilities have been refurbished too though they are still way out the back of the shop. They have also added a few tables and chairs outside as well as a small outside area out the back. The staff are friendly and they keep the busy queue moving very well. Generally I enjoy eating here with my son as there are plenty of suitable choices for him as well as high choirs for him to sit in. My only critisicm of this shop is that at the end of the day I often see them throeing large amounts of food into black bin bags. I just find this very sad and wasteful when there are plenty of shelters that would accept the food.

Every single time there is a different pastry to try (or so it seems), along with cakes, sausage rolls (normal or spicy), chocolate, macrons (so many varieties - my favourite being salted caramel) and the most amazing different kinds of bread. Everything he sells is made the morning before the bakery opens and there is a limited amount. Once it's sold out its sold out! There are a few small tables and a sofa and it can get quite busy at the weekends. The guy who runs the place is very nice, as is all the staff. We love to sit down, order food and drinks, relax then take home tons of stuff to eat throughout the day! X
