My son passed away on Saturday 09/14/2024, I hired Putnam-Reed funeral home to do the service, my…read moreson went to donor services of Tennessee on 09/14/2024 and was brought to the funeral home after donation on Sunday 09/15/2024 and allegedly embalmed at 10pm (cst) and ended at 12:30am on 09/16/2024. I went into Putnam-Reed on Monday 09/16/2024 to set up arrangements and was NOT notified of any odors, complications during embalming, or any other issues that would prevent the open casket service that Heater Reed-Poston set up. I received a call from Heather Reed-Poston at 9am (cst) on 09/18/2024 stating that they could not get my son embalmed due to the trauma to the head and we were unable to have the open casket service Heather lead us to believe would take place because of the strong odor coming from his body, instead they put an empty casket in my son's place. On the day of service Heather Reed-Poston was NOT at the service as she was the funeral director listed on all paperwork instead it was carried out by her daughter Victoria Rodriguez (named in separate complaint). Upon completion of service I went into Heather's office with a legal friend and she was immediately defensive, on edge, and wanting an attorney when being questioned about the embalming process, time they received my son, time he was embalmed, who did the embalming, when asked for the embalmers report it took over 2 business days to receive and was left in one of the funeral home vans for me to go and retrieve. Upon receipt of the embalmers report there was no notice of odor, trouble during embalming, or any further issues. There was approximately 53 hours between the time of embalming and the call from Heater Reed-Poston that the odor coming from my son was so bad they would not be able to have the open casket service, furthermore my sons casket with his body was put into the hearse on the day of the funeral 09/20/2024 at 9:30am (cst) and did not depart the funeral home towards the burial plot until shortly after 2:30pm (cst) on 09/20/2024 the temperatures were easily over 98 degrees on 09/20/2024 5 hours of sitting in the hearse with all windows closed you could walk by the hearse and smell the odor coming from inside, at the grave side service once the hearse was opened the smell was absolutely ATROCIOUS. Heather made the excuse that the funeral was not up to par because it was her daughter Victoria Rodriguez's first funeral after coming back from maternity leave.
