When I moved in the air conditioner would not cool. I notified management on a Friday at 3:00 and was told this was not an emergency and someone would get to it Monday. Two different maintenance people looked at the unit multiple times over the next week. One person "charged" it with a little Freon and it worked for a few hours. Mostly they said the equivalent of "seems fine to me". After about three days of them doing nothing, and me having to report the unit not working multiple times, one maintenance person said, the motor is frozen and the unit isn't working. You think? The motor was replaced and the unit worked for about a week. It has failed again now and I'm waiting for management to ignore me some more. The AC unit looks as though it is original to when these apartments were built in 1985. The first time I attempted to unpack my clothing and hang it in my closet the entire rack fell off the wall. The first time I opened the dishwasher it fell out of the wall. The first time I used the oven, which looked like it was also original to the apartments, it burned my food to black lumps of smoking charcoal. Obviously nothing in these apartments is checked after a tenant moves out and before another tenant moves in. I was sitting here watching TV one Saturday when a mouse went hopping by. I called management and told them. Not an emergency. So, eventhough there was obviously someone working, I am the one who had to go to the store to buy mouse traps. When they came to replace the oven they told me they found some openings in the kitchen cabinets, but they left them open (I guess so the mouse could go out the way it came in...??). I had to specifically ask them to seal the outer openings they found. There is daylight visible around the door. I asked them to seal that as well. They put a weather stip down the door in the wrong place, which actually made the gap worse. Now I can't sleep because my air conditioner doesn't work and it's too hot in the bedroom. I'm not comfortable sleeping with the windows open, as this ground unit is approximately fifty feet from a major road. Keep in mind that I have been here less than one month. As big of a hassle as moving is, if I could get out of this lease (I cannot) I would leave in a heartbeat. This is an incredibly expensive slum. read more
