Ironworks is a really lovely venue for music, art, and events…read more The network of rooms, halls, and galleries combine to a moldable space. We attended a wedding here and the set-up worked perfectly. The gallery space, with its stage, was great for dancing and the rowdies. The other halls housed the food, cake, and more subdued folks. Ironworks is run by Astrid Sars who was a very welcoming host. The bar served cheap drinks and the bar staff were friendly and good-natured. All around a great venue to keep in mind for when you want to celebrate.

I came here on the weekend for the VALT (Vancouver Alternative) Fashion Weekend, it was the first…read moretime I had even heard of this venue, so I was pretty stoked to check it out. The place is located down in gastown just on the cusp of the crust, meaning its just inbetween where the crackies meet the Vancouver nitelife, or if you're better with landmarks, kitty corner from the Number 5 Orange. Inside there are lots of old remains of ironworks bringing you industrial steampunk realness, and separate rooms to mingle and drink. Well, at this event there was a beer and wine selection so drink we did! A small glass of red went for $5 which is pretty decent, and they had a table of Geek Sweet Cupcakes for sale as well. YUM! The fashion show was fierce and they had some bands in between which were so-so. What I liked about this space was that there was space for a live band to play with a small stage, and there was also space for a runway (I'm not sure if that was brought in from somewhere else or something the venue rents) but it was pretty cool to have both, plus a separate room with a small bar set up, and a backstage area. What I'm sayin' is that this room is pretty diverse, and there's a lot you can do with it and I like that.

I've always been very kind and nice to him and have always treated him well, paid him on time, and given him the leftover desserts from the photo shoot to take home. I have hired him many times. However, on a recent visit, he asked me inappropriate, intrusive and probing questions whilst making references to my home and financial status which made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I felt very hurt by these comments and they stayed with me for about a month. I couldn't sleep well for 4 days after he said these things to me. I expressed these feelings to his wife on a few emails a few times and told her that going forward I would be hiring someone else to take care of my photography needs. However, they didn't really care about the fact that they were losing a client because of something that was said to upset me. They seem to be more concerned about their online reputation rather than about keeping me as a client even though I had brought this to their attention. When I told them that I was seeking another photographer, they didn't care because I suppose they have enough clients and don't need my business. Well... if people don't care about how they speak to me or take anything I have said to them seriously even though I have brought it to their notice a few times, then I won't care about what say about them online either

I ended up dancing the night away like a slut here on Saturday. I had a really great time, but…read morethere were a few things about this venue that weren't my favourite. First complaint - the bathrooms. This is not a change room, so why the heck is there a CURTAIN instead of a door to the two stalls in the ladies room? I'm sorry but whether you're hovering over the seat to pee, or hugging the porcelain goddess cuz you drank too much, you deserve some privacy while leaking those bodily fluids. At least if there's a door, you can knock, to see if anyone is in there, with a curtain, you're gonna tug on that shit and probably scar yourself for life when you see what's behind it. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." After you use those facilities, you're gonna love the sink even more. Its so tiny in the ladies room that if you are washing your hands, people can't even get in to the bathroom behind you. I know I got a fat ass and all, but this was kind of ridiculous. And lawd knows us ladies like to primp ourselves in the bathroom mirror, so try and bring a pocket mirror (they aren't just for railz bitches) if you plan on doin' any primpin'. Second complaint - the heat. There is zero air conditioning in here. As in none, nada, null and void. The promoters of the night actually brought in their own fans (lawd bless them) and it did help, but it was just recirculating warm air. For a venue this nice (minus the bathrooms) you'd think they could step it up a bit and have some A/C. Which brings me to the things I liked about the venue.... Cheap drinks! $8 for a double highball, call me SOLD! The space was really cool, I liked the different levels and dark corners to hide in, and the visuals looked great. I liked that the location was somewhat off the beaten club path, thus there were no creepers. The people who knew about this space and party were there for exactly that and there were no random granville street douchebags lingering nearby to buy you a drink. "GHB drinks on me!" All in all, I would totes go back to this place, but dress appropriately so I don't sweat my balls off. Oh wait, I don't have balls, I guess I already sweated them off, if anyone finds my balls let me know.

I don't know how people who were fully dressed up survived. 2) They could not handle the demand at the bar. I used my cocktail cup and refilled at the sink with nice cold water from the tap. 4) Their beer selection is extremely limited. They should at least have cans of one local craft beer like Red Racer available.
