I had been looking to purchase a Ruger LCP custom for a few months. A lot of the retailers online have been sold out and I was on the wait list of 3 separate sites because I couldn't find them sold anywhere within my price range. I don't have the requisite attention span for any of those auction firearm sites, either, so I was starting to feel like I might be shiitake out of luck. But then, a google search while I was waiting at the laundromat revealed that Vance Outdoors had my model in stock! There was even a cursory guide to buying firearms via the Internet on the site itself, which was extremely helpful as I had never purchased a firearm before. Due to my general incompetence, I was still a bit confused. I called the Online Help number listed on the site. Usually when I call a store like this, I'm on hold for at least 10 minutes and there are about 5 "Let me transfer you"s. Not so with Vance Outdoor! They picked up on the second ring and got me to the right department within a minute. Having worked retail before, I am able to appreciate how insanely fast that is. Hot damn, Vance Outdoor! Greg from the internet team is phenomenal. He was able to answer all of my questions concerning the FFL transfer and give me some helpful tips about my purchase. He even followed up via email after my FFL got sent to the store. The whole transaction was quick and painless. I wish they had a location in my state :C read more

I have to say I'm really disappointed in this location. Shopping with my black partner and being blatantly followed by a secret shopper all over the store. Obviously following us and staring at us in every department. We had never visited this Vance's and it made me very uncomfortable. We are frequent customers of several locations in Columbus and have had good experiences. I won't be returning to this location. read more

I recently sold my boat, but took it to Vance Outdoors prior to the sell to have it checked out. Everything went fine, but I need to tell everyone about Jake. Jake gave the boat a complete look over, and although the buyer had many questions, each were addressed and the sale took place. Jake was very professional, knowledgeable, and as important as anything honest! I do not own a boat now, but if I ever do, I will travel back to Vance's because of Jake! Last month my sister and I walked in to purchase guns. You have to take a number if buying a gun because thats pretty much what everyone in there is doing. So we take our numbers and head back. As mentioned on other comments you can't really get near the display case to see what looks interesting, so it can be very time consuming process when you finally do get to look at what is actually available. Two male employees were busy helping their male customers and three more men were ahead of us inline. After waiting for 30 plus minutes it was finally our turn, instead of calling our number the second sales rep just disappeared! We stood there waiting another 15 minutes. I am sure my glares at the camera were a source of entertainment for the security staff. Finally when two more male customers showed behind us in line an unhappy sales associate came out and asked what we wanted? This guy never smiled, never offered to show us any other guns and acted like he was being inconvenienced to help us women. I was so disgusted I decided not to purchase anything, but my sister did. Three more sales associates appeared behind the counter while she was filling out all the paperwork so they had plenty of staff. Are women not welcome at Vance? Your employees my be surprised to know there are a lot of licensed gun carrying women out there! They lost a sale that day. Sad! read more

Headache-free: order, wait, it's at your door. They also run the "Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore" website (which I ordered from) though the real-life location is still Vance Outdoors. They didn't have the absolute lowest price for my specific range ammo, but they were among the lowest and most importantly had a reliable reputation across various forums I found. They do not ship any ammo to San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, or New Jack City (kidding); in these cases, out-of-town friends are invaluable. I may upgrade to 4 stars in the future. read more

I'm giving them a 2 because they are open. They are gouging prices, but they are open. When you walk in you tell the guy why you're there and he gives you a number. From there you go back to the guns and if you make it past the ammo without having a stroke because of the prices you've made it to the finish line. To stand there and look at the top wooden corner of the cases that I would assume have guns in them since you are derailed from looking by a rope that keeps you about 3 ft from the cases. read more

They do not honor exemptions at this location. I wrote and email back in November and was emailed by Todd Vance and was told yes they do. So I attempted to go in later in December and was kicked out of the store and treated like a terrible person. I refuse to support places like this in the future. We have just traded one group of people for another. It's times like these that you find out who you can support and who you can't. After my experience I emailed back and explained what happened then was told I would receive a call. This has become our "go to" outdoor store. It's only about a mile closer than another of their stores, but these folks understand what service is. I recently went in to look at a firearm. The sales rep was really helpful and answered ALL of my questions. The wait time for paperwork is what it is. There's nothing that can be done about that. Just a shame I lost everything in a boating accident (if you know, well, you know). Only complaint is the price of ammo which probably isn't their fault either. I'm sure their prices have gone up also. Anyway, great store for everything from fishing, to hunting to boating. read more

I have been a loyal customer to the Vances stores across central Ohio for my entire adult life and it has seemed that there customer service has just gotten so bad that I don't like giving them my money anymore. They use to have a great friendly staff and the best prices you could find on guns, ammunition, and accessories. Now you may be able to find some decent deals on guns but I have consistently found better deals on ammunition and accessories pretty much everywhere else including Cabelas which use to be the highest prices you could find by a large margin. I had been wanting to pick up an new stripped ar lower and I have checked their website about everyday for the last two weeks and I have never seen it in stock at any of there other stores so I tried to call three times to see if I could either verify it was in stock or possibly have it sent to the Obetz location. Each attempt to get ahold of someone got me trapped in a loop from the reception or customer service transferring me to the gun counter, the call holding until it got transferred back to customer service for them to transfer me back to the gun counter and to repeat this over and over. Today I checked their website to verify that it was in stock, drove from Columbus to Hebron, Drew a number which was 58 they were on number 54 when I drew mine. My wait was well over an hour. I told the employee what I looking for and seemed to be lost. He went to the back room to look for it and came back and said that they were out. I pulled their website up on my phone and showed him that it said they had it in stock. He then went into the back again and was unable to find it. I asked him if I could be notified when they were actually in stock due to the money I just wasted driving out there to come up empty handed. He told me there was no method for this to happen. He acted like I was wasting his time. This is not the first or even the second time I have ran into issues like this. I sorely miss the customer service that once was. I try to support local and small businesses and their attitude and pricing are just pushing more and more people to buying online. Fortunately for me though I stopped by The Bullet Ranch on my way back to Columbus. It was my first visit to The Bullet Ranch and not only did they have what I wanted in stock, but also at a great price and while giving amazing customer service. If you are thinking about buying from Vances I would think twice before I continue to give my hard earned money to a company that consistently acts like they do not care for your business. read more

I probably should have looked at this companies street cred before placing an online order. Now that I see they average about 3-3.5stars across the board the terrible experience and customer service I got is actually pretty good considering their batting average. Their online store customer service team is non-existent, 2 emails + 2 voicemails + 3 phone calls over the course of 5 days and still never reached anyone. Decided to call the Hebron store which is the stocking location of the bow I bought online and finally reached someone. She quickly commented "yeah, our online team is really hard to reach". Long frustrating story short I finally got in touch with Brandon who seems to be the only one on staff that gives a shit and whatdaya know, he returned my call twice within an hour. Brandon resolved my issue in 10 mins, was apologetic and finally delivered an above average say/do ratio to this hotmess business. Now days online retail is the battle ground where you win as a business by these guys got a long way to go to figure that out. If there's a Mr. or Mrs. Vance that owns this business and cares, maybe they'll read this and Gimmie a shout to uncover the opportunity to improve. I'll hold my breathe starting now. read more

First, I hate to leave a bad comment for a local gun store but these guys deserve it. They are the front line gun ambassadors for most consumers and this should be a pleasant and even fun shopping experience. It's not. The employees here are some of the rudest and unhelpful I've ever come across in any retail setting. I can only assume they are all related to the owner because no one is concerned about customer service. I tried to buy a gun from here around 2 years ago. They made up a dozen 'rules' about how I had to fill out the 4473 and made me fill it out 3 times. They tried to tell me these 'rules' were the law. I know it isn't and when I called them on it they said the rules were their own rules. I left and went to Black Wing and filled out the 4473 and walked out with the gun in about 20 minutes. Yesterday I decide to give them another chance since it's been years. I bought two shirts. One had the wrong size sticker. I took it back today to exchange it for the correct size. Of course it's not that easy. I just walked out and kept the wrong size. It was easier than exchanging it for the exact same shirt in a different size. With the ability to buy everything in their store from on line retailers at much better prices the only thing this brick and mortar has going for it is the personal customer service touch. And they fail miserably at this. The worst part of this store, to me, is the disservice they are doing to the gun community. If I was new to firearms and I experienced this kind of treatment I might never go into another gun store again. Shame on you Vances. read more

Vance Outdoors had a very, very hard to find Camp Chef FTG600P griddle (priced very low too) that I bought and had to shipped to me. Upon use, 4 welds under the griddle broke and my heart sank! I figured I'd be out of luck since not even Camp Chef has replacements. Vance had one, and they replaced mine and paid shipping both ways! I was amazed and am eternally grateful for their quick and very good service. I will now shop at Vance going forward because they more than earned it...and likely took a hit shipping that thing back. Pros: -Easy to use website -Best prices on most guns online (sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com) -Free shipping on all guns -Frequent promotions Cons: -Customer Support is very lacking, long response time or often none at all -Free Shipping is hardly worth it. If you need your item within a few weeks choose expedited shipping! Even with paid shipping it takes longer than it should to ship. FFL sent in same time as purchase as well. -SOSS.com site claims they have 24 employees, and their "orders may experience a delay in shipping" message has been around for months on (at least that I can tell), maybe it's time to hire some more employees? Drove 2 1/2 hours to look at a used boat. In communications with Ron about the boats condition prior to the drive. Ron assured me I would not be disappointed. Unfortunately I took Ron's word and made the drive. He stated it was in great shape. This boat had cracks in the dash, seats that were barely holding together at the seams, carpet was worn to nothing on the edges of compartments, and speaker cover broken.... Don't take their word for condition. Get lots and lots of close up pictures if driving to see a boat! Store was nice, that is the only reason I gave them 2 stars read more

I purchased a "new" Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor from here online. When I received the gun, there was rust on the bolt in multiple locations, the trigger assembly was corroded, and the receiver shows significant signs of wear (anodization was completely worn off in areas). It's pretty clear the gun has been excessively exposed to moisture and used significantly prior to my receiving it. The gun is in less than new or even like new condition. This is not a business I would classify as trustworthy or having integrity. read more

I like this place. I've seen a couple of the bad customer service reviews and I did not have that experience. I've been in the store a few times in the last month or so, bought ammo and two pistols. I guy by the name of Benjamin helped me. He was very friendly, and the sale went very easy. I already knew which pistols I wanted and he made quick work of the paperwork. Most of their prices are in line with others, and if they are not, they're quick to price match. Unless something changes, I'll continue going. read more

Good outcome despite some issues on last few visits. Process to order puts u thru line on each visit. Have purchased many firearms at this location and last two times i was there was almost 2 hrs because their phone system and computers went down bringing everything to a halt for everyone for 15 or 20 mins. Visits were 3 months apart leaving plenty of time to have fixed issue. Obviousely still an issue but come to find out service area being rural is the issue. Writing this while there waiting and owner approached me and we had a long conversation and felt his personal attention to my concerns were genuinely a concern for him and explained to my satisfaction why some of the things are the way they are and took suggestions I had into consideration going forward.
