IT'S TULIP SEASON, FOLKS!
When I was moving to Tasmania, I heard tell of an exceptional field of tulips looking out over the ocean, and I was like, shut up, that can't be real. But then for my first anniversary of moving south, I drove north (don't question it) until I reached said field. I didn't quite tiptoe through them but instead stomped, as I am wont to do. I promise I avoided the tulips themselves with the stomping but it was a bit muddy and I had to be sure of my footing, you see.
Anyway.
The business is at Table Cape Tulip Farm, and the farm is the business. Spring is the time to visit, as all the tulips flower around mid-September through mid-October. The farm is apparently the largest farm in the southern hemisphere that people are allowed to wander through! All they ask is a small donation for the pleasure, and I'm happy to pay. In fact, I've paid more than once. I went back again for my anniversary just last year (number four), as my mum happened to be in the state, so we met up there for some blooming good times.
Each year the blooming field is rotated, so it's worth visiting consecutive years as you'll get to wander through different fields. Last year's field was far more picturesque than the first year I visited, as last year's field was one that looked north toward the lighthouse and the ocean. It was truly ridiculous and I was over the moon.
Plus, you can't visit the tulip farm without returning home with a bunch of tulips, right? At farm gate prices, too. I love tulips and I love Tasmania and I love Table Cape (the north west is spectacularly beautiful and my favourite corner of the state). It sounds mundane but if you like flowers, and you're in Tasmania around this time of year, stop by. You won't regret stomping around. read more
