This is a lovely hotel, located just off the highway, but not too close as I did not hear any "highway sounds". Very conveniently located for easy access to the A73.
Unlike the other van der Valk hotels in which I've stayed, the breakfast is optional, so one can save a few euros. The breakfasts are quite extensive and wonderful, but sometimes it is better to not indulge in all the wonderful breads, the sliced ham and cheese, smoked salmon, hot items and sweets. The breakfast is a pay as you go, so you can just add it to your room charge if you choose to enjoy the breakfast any morning. It costs 12.50 p.p.
The rooms are quite spacious. Ours was a "king" bed room, which in most European hotels is really two twin beds next to each other. Also as is standard in much of Europe, there are no top sheets on the beds. There are lightweight comforters. These are lovely, but a little warm in the summer heat. We travel with a queen-size flat sheet and take the comforters off. This hotel is air-conditioned, but there is no control in the room. It is more like "air-cooled".
The bathroom is also quite large with both a tub and a shower. There is also larger than usual towel bar over the tub rather than the "standard" one bar on the wall, so there is room for one to hang up any personal laundry that's rinsed out. ( see photo)Sometimes there is barely room for both bath towels to be hung up.
There is a mini fridge in the room and it is NOT filled with snacks and drinks. This is a welcome surprise. It is not a large fridge, but very nice to put in a bottle or two of water or some restaurant leftovers. The only negative is that the hotel has this mini-fridge inside a small closet. When you open the closet door it is quite warm in the space around the fridge and so the fridge does not work as efficiently as it would if it were free standing or at least did not have a closet door in front of it. The fridge would be colder inside if it were not in the closed space.
The cleaning staff replaces two 33cl bottles of water in the room each day. We asked and were pleasantly surprised to find that these bottles were complimentary.
There are two large closets in the room. I think both are poorly placed as the left door on the one right by the room door hits the door-closer mechanism every time it is opened. It's too bad this closet is not located slightly further into the room. The other closet has several shelves and a small safe for your valuables. While great to have this much shelf space, the closet is in the part of the room where the lighting is not bright and so looking for clothing at the back of a shelf that's approx. 20-24 inches deep is difficult. A dresser, instead of a closet, with 3 or 4 drawers could easily have been in the room under the flat screen TV.
Many hotel guests are probably not there for as many nights as we were(2 weeks), so most guests would not have thought these shelves inconvenient.
The rooms are reasonably priced; the rooms are quite spacious, there is the mini-fridge and the hotel is conveniently located for easy access to the highway. We would gladly stay there whenever our travels take us back to visit friends and family in this part of the Netherlands. read more
