To make matters more stressful, it was a Friday--when many dental offices aren't even open. They answered the phone, took my situation seriously, and got me in to see a dentist right away. It turned out I needed a root canal, and they went above and beyond by getting me an appointment with an endodontist that same afternoon. The coordination and urgency they showed made a huge difference in what could have been a miserable experience. I should also mention that we were brand new to Iowa City and hadn't even established care with a dentist yet. We had just moved from Sacramento, where we loved our longtime dentist and honestly didn't expect to find comparable care so quickly. Iowa City Dental Clinic exceeded my expectations. The care was not only excellent, but genuinely compassionate. In addition to treating me, they provided excellent referrals, which helped me quickly get top-notch follow-up care here in Iowa City. I'm incredibly grateful for how they handled everything during a stressful situation. I needed a crown in a reasonable amount of time, as my dentist at the UI was scheduled out for months and I had had an emergency. I was able to get in and get the crown done in a reasonable timeframe. The crown took one visit, and it was perfect. It looks exactly like my natural teeth and fits perfectly along with its neighbors. Dr. Connors uses high tech 3D imaging (rather than biting a mold and making a cast) to create the plan for the crown, and then synthesizes it right there in the office while you watch. And then it's ready to install. Amazing! It is obvious that Dr. Connors is a master of her craft and I am extremely happy to have her as my dentist! Jones Family is convenient to the east side/ample parking and reasonably priced. The doctor I saw was very knowledgeable, thorough, helpful and personable/kind... I also got a reminder e-mail from the clinic that I should go in for more dental work to take advantage of the full insurance allocation for the fiscal year - or something to that effect. I don't approach dental care with such a financial gain perspective nor of going after work you don't really need simply to maximize your benefits out. Rather, I would prefer to get the work done that I need without doing excessive work or adding on a host of additional services that aren't actually essential or really needed. Having said that, Dr. Nowysz and her team are always extremely nice and friendly. She was great with my kids and I had a positive dental exam the one time I did see her. She also does charitable work for free in Latin America routinely and I have a huge amount of respect for that and her voluntary spirit. So I would recommend her, but be firm in saying "no" if you get the impression she is proposing additional things you don't actually need or perhaps get the feeling she is exaggerating an issue that might not be as intensive as she suggested (she had a high priority treatment my daughter needed which I declined as we were traveling and two years later my daughter's teeth are just fine, no issues so obviously the treatment wasn't that critical or urgent).
