I have visited a lot of churches in conjunction with a parachurch ministry that I was associated with and have NEVER met a church this unfriendly. The church is very male-centric so women, be aware, it's very clear that women are second-class citizens at this place.

I had a difficult time focusing in mass. All day i am surrounded by television screens and computer…read moremonitors and cameras. I go to mass to be with my Lord in an intimate way, in silence, and prayer. Here it was difficult to do that. Dominating the entire space are two massive screens which continually blare out messages - words to songs, important notifications, etc. taken together, they are far larger than the alter, the tabernacle, the priest. In fact, during mass most people are staring at the screens and not the crucifix or the tabernacle or any of the other Catholic symbols. So these modern symbols (if you will) are fully distracting and unfortunate. To make this intrusion all the more pronounced, between these two massive distractions is a very conspicuous camera. The feeling is one of invasion into my private prayer time in my private space. Why can't the Catholic mass be simple? Can we not do without screens for an hour? Are people so numb to God that they cannot memorize the Lord's prayer? Are we so stupid and passive? Is there such a need to record every aspect of peoples private life? Please remove the noise and make mass simple and reverent again.

Today was my first time attending this church for All Souls' Day at the 10:30 Mass, and it was,…read morewithout question, the most irreverent service I have ever experienced. Before Mass began, the congregation treated the sanctuary like a social gathering--laughing, chatting, and showing no sense of reverence for the Lord or respect for those trying to pray. It was disheartening to see such disregard for the sacredness of the liturgy. Even more disturbing, the visual and audio crew carried on casual conversations throughout the Mass, including during the consecration of the Eucharist--the most solemn and sacred moment of Catholic worship. This complete lack of decorum and respect made it impossible to focus on prayer or reflection. If you value reverence, silence, and genuine devotion during the Holy Mass, I strongly advise seeking another parish. This community clearly treats worship as a routine event rather than an encounter with the divine.

From the moment you walk into the lobby, which feels more like a welcoming park with its massive indoor play area, you can tell this is a place that prioritizes families. Beyond the weekend services, the church excels at fostering growth through a variety of great classes and ministries. Whether you are looking for men's or women's Bible studies, vibrant youth programs, or specialized care groups, there is a clear path to get plugged in. The atmosphere is further enhanced by high-energy worship and a great on-site cafe that makes it easy to stick around and connect with others. It is rare to find a large church that maintains such a tight-knit, welcoming feel, but Bayside Blue Oaks pulls it off perfectly. Instead of reaching out to him, asking what he needed, offering resources, or showing him the compassion and dignity that you would expect from a Christian organization, the church chose to involve the police. I understand that churches have property, safety concerns, and boundaries. But there is a meaningful difference between setting reasonable boundaries and immediately treating a vulnerable person as a problem to be removed. Churches are supposed to be places where people in difficult circumstances can find compassion, support, and community. Calling the police on someone experiencing homelessness, without first making a genuine attempt to connect with or help them, feels completely contrary to those values. I hope the church reflects on whether its response demonstrated the kind of compassion and outreach it teaches others to show.
