The two-star "Meh" is for a few isolated events that sour my review. I was taken aback when I went…read moreto pick up my chip and was asked to "make a donation in exchange for a chip strap." That's not a donation. That's a sale. A donation, by definition, does not include an exchange of a good and/or service. If it was, can I file a $5 deduction with the IRS? (No. I now have a cheap strap to show for my $5.) They provided a chip, but no way to affix it to your ankle, so unless you already owned a strap, they put you in a position where you had to buy one. And conveniently they only took cash. I was also surprised that Ironman Canada ran out of water on the bike course. They didn't run out of hydration, but there were stops that had no water. How many years experience do they have? I also think the medal, which is very small, made of plastic, and adorned with a very generic, unadorned ribbon, looks chintzy. And the finisher shirt is a very odd color. Is that purple? Glad I bought a nicer one at the Expo. And by the way, who cares if the pre-race Expo shirts don't say finisher. Anyone can buy one, so it's not like they only sell to finishers.

Awesome Race Awesome venue…read more I wold have given it a 5 star except for how the new race directors have tried to change the format so much with more focusing on their apparent need for financial profit and to take the uniqueness of this race to mold it into another North American ironman race. Great having locals announce for the race with their focus on uniqueness and great humor and some genuineness in the way the this race and venue has always been Mike Reilly is great for the uniqueness of the American Ironman races but that is his expertise. Love this race. Done it multiple times and enjoy it muchly except for the last 2 years which made me give it a "4 star" rating but on saying that, I know that this race is a business and without the people making their profits, it might now be held in the same place and with it's uniqueness

On June 30th, 2014 I was visting Penticton for the weekend for a friend's wedding and as a…read morebrazilian jiu jitsu hobbyist (purple belt) from Edmonton, I emailed Allan Goes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Penticton to ask if I could drop-in to a class for fun. Erik Lund, the BJJ black belt instructor responded and invited me to come to any of the classes while I was in town. When I came by for the Monday evening class, Erik and his students could not have been more friendly or welcoming. The facilities were very nice with a muay thai/boxing ring and a large room of mats for grappling. The class was enjoyable and I particularily appreciated that Erik's students welcomed me to train with them and did not try to "smash" the visitor when we did some rolling (sparring or wrestling) at the end of class. Erik's ability to teach BJJ is evidenced by his students skills. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in BJJ to check out Allan Goes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Penticton.

Decent little gym in Pentdicton, BC. My partner and I needed to train while we were on holiday and…read morecame across this gym by accident. Initially we chose it because Google reviews stated they had lifting platforms with the possibility of calibrated plates but it was wrong and someone upload a wrong picture for The Gym Eternal. Since we had already driven there and needed to train, we decided to stay and give it a go. This little gym is a little cramped but it had basically everything we needed - squat racks, infinitely rack, standard free weight area, standard rows of cardio equipment and isolation machines. There's a little area in the back corner for crossfitters and then a side room for what I assume is used for spin and other fitness classes. Change rooms were clean and staff was friendly. The drop in fee was reasonable as well ($12) and there appeared to be a juice bar attached to the front desk. I can't really attest to it though cause i didn't pay that much attention and didn't buy anything from there. Overall, The Gym Eternal did it's job and we got our workouts in. Key highlights for me though were that they weren't super anal about noise from heavy deadlifts like many other gyms and they had a peg board. I have actually never seen one in a gym before this so that was cool to try out.

I went with the "weekend warrior" - banana, kale, wheatgrass, vanilla powder, and ice. Smoothies run $8, but there are also vegan food options and fresh pressed juices. This was an AMAZING start to my day. Set me up to enjoy alllllll the pizza later on. ;) The two people working this morning were friendly, full of good tips for attractions/activities, and made the whole experience all the better. I am staying here another day, so I might just be back tomorrow for the same type of thing, but this time try a new smoothie. The gym has a full rack of free weights and plenty of machines. It was great going in the morning (8a) because I had almost the entire thing to myself. Hands down WAY better than any other hotel gym I've ever seen. Want a great, clean, and happy start to your day? Then start here. You won't regret it.
