They also have a craft room and do crafts and they also have a small workout area. they also have a small TV and movie watching area. They also have some exercise classes designed for seniors and some services for Seniors like tax help. They have a really nice caring stsff and lots of choices for people who want to remain active in their senior years. The centers large multi-purpose room for some community meetings in evening I know that the Audubon society meets there the local Sierra club meets there, and several other community groups meet there. If you live in the Beaverdale area or the nearby Merle Hay area is very convenient to come to and has bus transportation in the front. It's also right next to the Franklin library which is a plus.

I've always felt safe coming here--in fact, my parents used to let the library babysit my little sister and I for hours! The staff are all super kind and helpful. The computers for catalog searching have improved substantially and it's super quick to look up an item. Self check-out is also quick and reliable. There is a plentiful amount of tables to do some work on and the public wi-fi is reliable. Aesthetically, it may not be as pretty other libraries, but it's very clean and nice regardless. They have a lot of video games to rent for free which is nice for video game lovers! For new popular books, the library does a good job of getting them in stock. As a new Nook user, the experience of checking out an ebook is very easy as well. In the past, there used to be a cafe and I hope it gets revitalized as there are times I want a quick bite to eat or a drink! That would be my top wish for the library. We ended at Carl's Place (a local bar) which is listed as a "point of interest" on the tour's map. Having a cold beer was a perfect ending to my tour of the neighborhood. This was a really well-organized event. Most (if not all) of the staff were volunteers from the neighborhood. They were all welcoming and friendly. Great community outreach.

This weekend was the 41st anniversary of the Doors to the Past walking tour of the historic homes…read more Lots of volunteers at the homes-all of them were very friendly-even with the rainy/cold weather. It was so interesting to be able to tour numerous homes in the Sherwood area. Some have been renovated back to their original charm. Some are "works in progress" and some had amazing modern touches. It was amazing to see the original plaster details still present and restored tin ceilings. These home owners take great pride in these historical homes and have graciously opened them for the public to view.

Every detail was exceptional from the food to the decor of the house to the service provided by the hosts. The venue itself is a wonderful place to hold an event as there are several rooms for guests to visit with each other, ample parking and beautiful details throughout. The brunch that was prepared for us was fresh, unique and the perfect fare for our guests. The chocolate chip cookies were sublime. As an avid amateur photographer and Iowa native... How can you not make the hop, skip, and a jump…read moredown (over or up) to explore the covered bridges of Madison County...? Here's a secret. I've never seen the movie or read the book, but I did run into Clint Eastwood and his entourage back in the day (1995ish). We weren't able to get too close though. Lol The covered bridges take you back to a much simpler time. When people and cars just weren't as complicated as they are now. The construction of each one seems to be a little unique and diffent from the next. It's too bad that they have been plagued by graffiti artists, people who can't seem to leave things as they find them, and even arson over the years. If you live within a decent driving distance you can experience the bridges in all the seasons. It might sound a little silly, but as a photographer sometimes a few months can make a world of differece in your pictures...sometimes even days. While there is curb appeal to all the bridges Roseman is probably my personal favorite. The Roseman bridge location also has a nice little gift shop you can stop at to take home a momento of your visit (open May 1st through the end of October). Don't miss the shopping opportunities in downtown Winterset. Expect to get dusty, as most of the bridges are on gravel roads, and enjoy your visit!

Originally traversing the North River, in 1979 it was moved to its present location inside Winterset City Park. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. There is ample parking, and access to the park is paved. We recommend a visit at the peak of fall foliage, when the park is breathtaking.

You can even go up to the rooftop but the ladder/stairs are very steep and you need to be careful. When we visited, another person that was on site said that the roof had been cleaned up considerably and that there is typically a lot more debris , so again be careful, but the structure is beautiful and makes for great photos. It needs better signage for hikers and bikers for sure though as it can get somewhat confusing and the roads in and out are narrow one-way roads but it's definitely worth the trek.

Constructed in 1926 this 25 foot tall castle like structure was built on the 18th anniversary of the founding of Madison County. As a testament to its construction Clark Tower survived being struck by an EF 4 tornado in 2022!
