Toward the end of May 2025, our daughter Erica became gravely ill and was admitted to Valley Children's Hospital. What should have been a joyful time, filled with celebration and pride as she prepared to graduate on May 27th, quickly turned into a nightmare. Instead of honoring her accomplishments, we were faced with the heartbreaking reality of watching our daughter suffer through a sudden and frightening medical crisis. As parents, we were absolutely terrified for her life. The fear and helplessness we felt in those moments are beyond words. We are profoundly grateful to the team of doctors and medical staff at VCH who worked tirelessly to diagnose and treat Erica. Through their dedication and care -- and by the grace of God -- our daughter began to recover. The doctor's even fought harder to treat her as soon as possible so that they could discharge her in time to walk the stage to get her diploma which meant the world to her. This experience has left a lasting emotional impact on our family. What was meant to be a milestone of celebration was instead a time of fear, uncertainty, and deep concern for Erica's health and future. Today Erica continues to be treated as an out patient at VCH and she continues to get stronger every day. She is on the road to full recovery. My nephew came to get his tonsils removed and he as well as us were well taken care of. Lobby is full of waters, cell phone chargers and snacks all for free. Nurses and staff are all nice and friendly. Their compassion radiates all across the hospital. We had such an amazing experience. Parking gets full fast so I would recommend to get there early. read more

I have no idea about what kind of a bill I am going to get hit up with but my experience taking a 16 yo teenager ( who was traveling 170 miles from home) to a robotics match was seamless. They were compassionate, empathetic and my son is smiling and not in much pain. They did x-rays before and after and the doctor popped back my son's shoulder into the socket with very little drama! After 4 1/2 years of off and on chemotherapy I wanted to try something new. They sent my daughter home to die on September 21st. I put her on a high alkaline diet and herbal remedies and she is now doing just fine. She is far from death. Dr Wendy Tcheng would not listen or work with us. All this hospital wants to do is charge your insurance for medications these children do not need. They went behind my back and while I was asleep they have her a blood transfusion, after I said nothing to improve her counts I want to see if I can do it holistically since they said there was nothing else they could do I just needed a doctor to work with me to find what works to save my daughter. I just woke up and it was almost done and the only thing that was low was her hemoglobin. Well here's a duhhu secret for ya, everyone has low hemoglobin. Not a reason to get a blood transfusion. They after I complained about the doctor to another doctor they took my words and twisted them. I simply said i felt betrayed and just wanted to hurt Dr Wendy Tcheng for the damage she has done to my child. Anyone would have casually said the same im sure.Then they banned me from the hospital knowing there is nobody else to take her. I always felt like I was doing thr wrong thing taking her there. The doctors are not interested in saving my daughters life, they wanna charge my insurance for the same old thing that dose not work. Doctor Tcheng especially. Prior to this incident she recommended Radiation for the tumors in my daughters lungs when she was 12. The Radiation oncologist Dr Silvera in Clovis recommended against it. He said he didn't want to do the Radiation on a child's lungs that young because it would probably cause more harm in the future than good. He said it could make the cancer spread cause breathing problems scare tissue and even breast cancer. Dr Wendy Tcheng did not care. Instead she convinced us that it was nessassery and made it sound like it would seal the envelope make her better. Well it made her worse. Now the tumors are everywhere in both her lungs. They spread and so did the cancer. Never take your children to Madera Children's Hospital. If you dont do things their way and you want to try new things to keep your child alive, Madera Children's Hospital is not the place. Dr Tcheng also messed up the paperwork on her father's paid leave, so we are all broke trying to take care of a child with Cancer. Doctors should never be that dumb and still allowed to work on children. They are not interested in finding out what really kills cancer or what could improve a child's quality of life. They take credit for things chemo doesn't do like make you feel better. Its not right to plat games with parents stab them in the back and make a child worse. But that's what has happened to me. They're also being sued for theft wages of their employees. Watch out for the oncology teams at Madera valley children's hospital. They have no interest in your kids unless you do whatever they can charge your insurance for. My daughter doesn't feel safe here and neither do I. We dont know what they're doing behind our backs while we sleep?? read more

Dr. Lopez had one consult with my son he hardly examined him and said he needed tubes. was able to get a bunch of more test done in Mexico in one day when at VC it took almost a year just for Audiology test. I was able to see his eardrums and all the results that showed he did not need tubes but had very enlarged tonsils and adenoids. Be careful when putting your kids through surgery, get a second opinion. I feel he was going to have an unnecessary procedure and since they didn't take the time to assess the issue they would later on have said he needed another surgery. Do not trust these Doctors. read more

This Children's Hospital is so rare and remarkable in today's world. My spouse has dedicated almost 40 years of her life here, not to mention her and mother at the former Shields location. I had my lab work done there today in Madera. So professional! Excellence is rare today. They treat every child or adult like a king or queen. It is inspiring to see this direction of prosperity and leadership, no matter how many uninformed BS naysayers. We love VCH! read more

I am very disappointed in the care received. My niece's equipment monitoring her oxygen and heart rate were beeping loudly and nobody came to check. This actually occurred five times in the one hour that I was there visiting and no nurse or any other person came to check. Her mother said unless there's obvious concern she just presses pause on the machine. Moreover, as I was leaving and the equipment still beeping away I pass the nurses station I see one lady in her scrubs staring into space, two gentlemen viewing what looked like re-runs of NFL games and the two ladies behind the desk smiling a huge grin and wishing me a good night. I stopped and requested assistance in the room. A young lady from down the hallway that seemed to be out of breath and overworked said she would see to the equipment "in a minute". Besides this incident, the explanation of care provided to my niece was either non-existent or so convoluted that the reasoning behind the actions taken are to this day unknown. Parents are not doctors and do not understand YOUR language. No compassion, no conscience. I'm at a loss of how this facility is renowned for their supposed excellence in patient care. I'll end this review stating that my niece is not the daughter of a famous Fresno State Football Player or the daughter of a local politician. She's more important, she's my niece. read more

Absolutely best and most efficient care for my two month old grandson who was recently diagnosed with RSV. They took my daughter in immediately with him - no joke only a 10 minute wait. Once we were in they diligently monitored him an additional 12 hours, and made it clear to bring him back if we are even slightly concerned for him. The care they provided for my grandson was almost unbelievable - felt like we were in an alternate universe. The best part was they not only cared for him, but my daughter as well - asking her things like "Are you ok mama? Is there anything we can get you mama?" Would highly recommend their emergency room for your little ones. We feel extremely blessed to have these services only 45 minutes away from us. Thank you to everyone from the doctor, nurses to the respiratory therapist. You are all amazing! read more

Dr Carlos Sanchez-Granville performed a successful surgery on my son and saved his life on November 4th, 2022. I'm very grateful that Dr Carlos was his surgeon. Doctor is very knowledgeable, kind and professional. However, not all staff were. There's a few people that were nurses, doctor's assistant and security staff that wasn't so much. They would bring their problems from home to their jobs and I could sense the irritation and annoyance, even when asking the simplest questions, which in turn would annoy me because I unintentionally absorbed their negative emotions. I'm very empathetic, it's a curse actually. I'm able to sense people's emotions, absorb their emotions and can even tell what they're sometimes thinking and what they're going through and truthfully, the staffs I'm talking about shouldn't even be working around children or elderly people. Shoutout to the good doctors like Dr Williams and Dr Sanchez, and the good RNs and CNAs that cared for my son. You guys deserve the world and wish the universe grant you all your wishes and desires! read more

Fortunately my grandaughter was fine. But if YOUR two year old swallowed 28 pills you would be concerned too. After that episode I did talk to an employee who handles complaints and she was very kind and knowledgeable. I told her the only thing I wanted was for a supervisor to go take a look at the baby who was in the waiting room to make sure she was ok. But the operators refused for me to talk to any supervisor also what about Hippa.? They wanted to know the details of her illness . The person I talked to said she would handle it. My teenage son separated his shoulder at Church Camp and was taken here since it was the closest emergency room. After a little wait, they re-set his shoulder, took x-rays to make sure everything was back in place correctly, and we were on our way home. My experience with this place has been outstanding. We had a follow up appointment with an orthopedic surgeon three weeks later and again things went great. Communication, insurance processing, doctors, and staff have all been outstanding. This location is an hour and a half away from our home, but I don't mind the drive because the experience has been top notch. read more

This is a review for the emergency room at valley children's hospital. They really need to evaluate their process of admitting in the emergency room. I understand the whole triage and that it goes by the severity of the case. However as professional they should have a better method and if they know ahead of time a wait time is going to be more than 2 hours for what they do not consider a priority they should at least inform the patient/parent so we can make the decision of waiting more than 4 hours or not. read more

One employee couldn't even keep it to himself and brought up how this hospital management treats them under pay poor health insurance and the overall pay won't adopt with corrent economy. Very friendly team, from the minute we walked in we were greeted kindly and shown the way. the attendant when you walk in, he was very polite, the registration team super nice. all the nurses pre op they were all amazing, the health educator or "distracter" was honestly the best, I've never seen that before, she came in and helped my child as they were getting an IV going. She explained the whole process with demonstrations and answered all of my child's questions. My Childs surgeon Dr. Wareham came in and explained everything, the anesthesiologist came in as well and explained the process. she was super nice as well. My child was then taken to the OR by 2 lovely nurses who were super fun with her making her less scared or anxious. Surgery was not too long and we were update every step of the way until the Doctor showed up to tell us she was done and it was a success. very thankful for the doctor. she was amazing. we were then escorted by the transporter, who was really nice, to where our child was, the nurse attending her post op was super kind to her and friendly. answering all her questions and controlling her pain. we were then taken to her room which is very private. the whole team has been amazing from her RN PCT and all the nurses and aides, they have all been so polite and friendly. my child asks everyone for a hug and they've all been nothing but amazing. It's not just the medical teams that were great, I went to the cafeteria and everyone their was super friendly as well. the whole experience has been a breath of fresh air the gift shop attendant was also super nice and helpful. this is truly a great children's hospital. 10/10 experience. thank you for all you've done for my child read more

Dr Horsepool at the Charlie Mitchell's Clinic here at the Valley Childrens Hospital is the most patient, kind , compassionate physician I've met in my life. I pretty much consider anybody who are kind and compassionate towards children on the autism spectrum to be the angels on earth. :) Trust me , my son on the spectrum is fourteen now and we've encountered plenty of people who are unfortunately the opposite of the angels. One of the nurse practitioner, Michelle is super sweet and awesome too. She understands kids with autism . She just gets it. She's patient and knows how to deal with their fears and anxiety. I'm so grateful for the Charlie Mitchell's clinic and their dedicated staff who tirelessly help make special needs children feel better . I'm also thankful to the social workers here who writes referrals for us so that my son is able to receive therapies he needs otherwise the school district won't offer. Many many kisses and hugs to Charlie Mitchell's angels !!! read more

This review is for the ER on 1/12/21. This morning, we had our pediatrician send us for an ultrasound suspecting pyloric stenosis. We did an ultrasound at noon. She called at 3:30 telling us he did have it, to take the images from quest and go to valley childrens in Madera where she already talked to the doctor and they will be expecting us for surgery. We live in bakersfield and my son is 5 weeks old. We were told not to feed him. We drop everything, pack some stuff, and make the two hour drive. We get to the ER to check in and only one of us can be inside. WITH A NEWBORN and we are out of towners. Perfect. I'll sit it the truck for the next five hours?!?!?! They take my baby and husband back at 6:30. By 9:30, NO ONE HAD UPDATED OR TALKED TO HIM. He finally flagged someone down who then sends my child for ANOTHER ultrasound although we have all the images and results from the lab taken AT NOON TODAY. Now we are waiting an hour for results. Meanwhile, my baby hasn't eaten since 3. My husband hasn't eaten since five and we can't switch places. This is absolutely absurd. He is sitting in a hallway away from everyone else and I can't come in. Please explain the logic that I can't be in the ER with my newborn but I can come inside once he is admitted to surgery??? Did I mention he is a newborn?!?! So insanely disappointed in all of this. Stop bragging on your website that patients see doctors within 45 minutes. And reconsider the trash "covid" requirements when it is my child in the hospital. Update: after 5 hours, we were confirmed what we already knew and are scheduled for surgery the next day. Which means my husband now is going to a hotel because baby is in the ER overnight. I do want to give a HUGE shoutout to nurse Brad. Sooooooooooooo helpful. Got me a sleep chair, sheet, blankets, and bottles for me to express while I am here cause I forgot some of my pump parts. My interactions with Nurse Ron were also positive but Brad really stole the show on this otherwise terrible trip. Dawn, Amy, and Kody were also amazing. We didn't get a surgery time until 1:30pm the next day. And the absolute biggest issue we have is that my husband wasn't allowed to come in before baby went to surgery to kiss him and say good luck. But the second my son was wheeled away, my husband could join me in the waiting room, 20 feet away. Wtaf?! How is that a thing? read more

I hope that you do not find yourself with your child for days and nights but if you do, you will be in safe hands. My son stayed here for four days. The staff was so kind and attentive. They constantly made sure we had everything we needed and they did everything they possibly could to help heal my son. A play therapist will come in and check to see what toys or goodies your child might like. As he felt better, these items were so helpful. He got to take many of them home. read more

I know other ERs are no better. Daughters pain is 9 out of 10. Throwing up in ER. Urgent Care Dr said possible appendicitis take her to ER now. Was told the wait is 3 hours. Others I've talked to have been here for 6 hours. They just look at you coldly and say there is nothing else they can do. It's very cold and it stinks in here. We were always blessed with great healthcare service when we lived in another state. This is awful!! read more

Horrible Orthopedic department. Dr. Arends misdiagnosed my daughter. Said nothing was wrong and go to PT to see if anything would pop back in to place. Also said it's in her head so see a psychiatrist. Well Dr., it's actually a bulging disc!!! 6 months of pain because you couldn't do your job and help a child.
