I have been a 20 year customer of Valentine Volvo. The prior experiences have always been positive. On December 30, I booked a service appointment for my 2013 XC 60. This car is our son's car and he currently resides in Regina. I phoned and spoke to an advisor and provided the following details for the service: 1. front grille needs to be replaced as a grouse was hit while driving; 2. squeak in the front end- ; and, 3. regular service for 160,000 km. At 0700 hours we dropped the vehicle off at Valentine Volvo as we were expecting at lot of work to be completed. There was only one car in the bay when we arrived. We told them we did not need it for the day. At ~ 1330 hours - almost 7 hours later we had heard nothing from Volvo on any results of their review. I phoned to receive an update. This is an unusual step as my experience was that Valentine Volvo typically phones to let you know their progress. When I phoned and spoke to my service advisor, Raymond, I was told that they had not started on the car yet. I was dumbfounded. When I pointed out the time we had dropped it off, I was told by Raymond that they had 22 cars to be seen that day and a skeleton staff of 3 working. I told Raymond it was not my issue- the customer- that Valentine Volvo had elected to have a skeleton staff working on this day. Approximately an hour later Raymond phoned back. He advised us ( my husband and me) that the front upper grille assembly would have to be replaced, the radar clips and all would have to be recalibrated. They understandably did not have this part in stock. We understood. Raymond then continued that the noise in the front end was a worn out and noisy front strut and that a coil spring (rear) was cracked and broken. Again the parts were not available; and again we understood. Finally based on the maintenance program, Raymond told us at 2:30 in the afternoon that there was a serpentine belt that needed to be replaced. This was in stock, but we were told it would take four hours. Raymond advised that they would be closing at 1600 hours and they would not be able to replace this due to the limited time available. This was not understandable to us. Valentine Volvo had the car for ~ 11 hours. During this time they diagnosed the needed repairs from the bird strike on the radar, completed an oil change, replaced a marker bulb on the right side of the car and performed the vehicle inspection for 160,000 km. For this we were charged $468. We are extremely dissatisfied with the service we received at Valentine Volvo. We understand that major parts needed to be ordered and accept that; however, what we take issue with is the replacement of the serpentine belt which could have and should have been done- particularly as we were told by Raymond that it would only take 4 hours. What is notable about Valentine's shortcoming is that Raymond advised us that the serpentine belt replacement was significantly overdue based on the vehicles mileage, which was actually 168112. All major service on this vehicle has been performed exclusively by Valentine Volvo. Why didn't they flag this belt replacement when we booked the appointment or at the very least, when the car was dropped off for service? Please recall they had the car for the entire day and knew at the time of booking that the car was not frequently in Calgary. I am very concerned that when the car is in service for 10 hours, and we find out that they did not have enough staff on- we should have been contacted before 9 hours to advise us of what they had found. I asked that Theresa the Service Manager call me as I was very dissatisfied. I did speak to Theresa Manager of Service on Thursday January 5th. She was sympathetic and suggested that if the serpentine belt broke, Valentine would pay for towing. It was - 25 C when we discussed this option. It would mean that we would be stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow. She also suggested that we could take the car to Saskatoon to get service. I bought a 2004 XC70 and took it in for a oil change. Couple days later, my wife calls me saying the car stalled on the highway. I go over and realized the gasket off the top motor cap( where they filled the oil ) was almost gone and leaked all over my spark plugs and cylinder. We got the car towed back to the dealership and after they cleaned up their mess, they asked me to pay 500$ for it when they were supposed to change that gasket. We understand that mistake happens so we paid 200$ of it. After we went back for a headlight that was burned ( xenon 250$ per ), my wife gets home and I can clearly see one bright blue and the other one bright yellow...now I know that there should be a slight difference but this was like night and day! I usually give people 3 tries so we went back for a brake module that needed to be fixed and they said it will be 1900$. So I asked if it can be rebuilt and they said no. I did my own research and throught mr. Volvo I found out that xemodex specialize in fixing them or they can send you a new one for 500$. So I figure that the installation must be very hard to do to justify the high cost. It took me 10 minutes to take out, shipped it, got the part back a week later and 10 minute to reinstall all for 500$. Needless to say I'm not going there anymore! If you still have doubts about them being that bad, just do some research when they tell you something is broken. I strongly suggest a second opinion as half the troubles that they pointed out to me where not existing as per mr. Volvo. Hope that helps read more

We have a 2004 XC70 that our family loves and has been a very durable and comfortable family wagon. Wanting to upgrade our 10 year old wagon to a newer vehicle with the cool auto-brake tech etc, we went to Valentine Volvo this past fall to see what we could replace it. I had previously been at Valentine last year when the XC70 was giving me some trouble and they were helpful in letting me test drive several vehicles but ended up keeping my XC70 a little longer. After helping us test drive two vehicles, I decided to go away and do some homework and discuss on the forums a good offering price on a new Volvo XC60. Learned about the hold back they receive, their real invoice price, discounts they get in bulk orders, and also learned about all the other discounts Volvo Canada was available to me automatically. I worked out a reasonable offer with my 'experts' including Volvo dealers in the US, a local indie shop in town, a couple of former Volvo mechanics in eastern Canada, and put together what I thought was a reasonable offer. (It helps being connected and informed). :) I went in with a cheque for a deposit and sat down to do a trade-in with the sales agent I've been working with since my first visit. Trading in the same vehicle brand with the same company usually results in a higher trade in value for your vehicle. While they did an appraisal on mine, it was $300 lower than a rough-shape trade in value (I had it professionally appraised prior). I was expecting $2k more on the trade-in. The agent went though all that was wrong with my XC70 (for some reason to justify their low-ball trade-in), and then he kept moving forward when I stopped him as he was continuing along as if I was to pay MSRP. I told him how much was willing to pay each month, and he did some quick math. He sits back with an exasperated look on his face and shouts "we're almost $5k apart here! I can maybe do $500 but don't think we can do a deal'. (it was actually $7k apart from my starting/bargaining process point). He didn't take it to his sales manager routine - he didn't counter. He didn't do anything and just sat there with a very angry look on his face. I was willing to go back and forth prior to this but with this rude behaviour I got up, thanked him for his time, and walked out. I was very disappointed and went home disillusioned at the whole experience. I get a call later that evening from their sales manager wanting to know why we couldn't close the deal. "Can't you put 3 or 4k more down?" He asks. "Come back and lets see if we can close a deal for you and we'll take a closer look at your trade-in". In my mind, I was thinking that sales agent had already spent 5 minutes going over with me already all the stuff which Valentine Volvo thought was wrong with my XC70 to justify their low trade-in value earlier that day - so now I'm suspicious. He asks me to come back in and I agreed to a time and date. Before my time to come in, I had a heart-to-heart with my partner and and we agreed that it was not in the best interest of our family decided not to purchase from Valentine. We were both very disappointed in this experience - for two main reasons: 1. We didn't think it was reasonable to expect a customer to pay near-MSRP prices for a new vehicle. 2. Being rude to a customer makes it a terrible client experience and a deal-breaker. Now, I'm going to stop here and point out a simple fact. If you're willing to pay near-MSRP for your Volvo, Valentine will give you an A M A Z I N G experience in purchasing your new car. Guaranteed. And you know what - they're allowed to sell that way if people are willing to pay it. I'm just not one of them. read more

Wait till you meet their service team, which seemingly is the most important part in maintaining and adjusting a mechanical being. Just picked my '11 XC70 up from its oil change and asked that an estimated mm of brake pad remaining be noted.....oh yes, Valentine did take the measure and chiseled me for $40 to do so. Toyota has never done this to me in 12 years AND Hyatt Infiniti did not stoop this low. The Valentine service team is and will continue to kill the front end sales. Whilst I was being skinned for $40 my fantastic salesperson Patrick was asking for new business as my lease will expire in Q1/14. Sorry Valentine - we are breaking up in April because of poor service and short sighted thinking....take my $40 now as it is the last money you will receive from me. And yet, there was another customer behind me and she was very warm with him. I had told her what the car was brought in for, and she treated me like I had no clue whatsoever about my vehicle. I have been a loyal customer of Volvo since the 80's. I perfectly know what my car is doing or not, I do not need her to insult me with her snide remarks. I agree with Starkie and Benoit, I have known Valentine since the early nineties, since Valentine was on 1st street SW, downtown Calgary. It sounds to me that their Service Department have not changed a bit. I haven't been there since 2010, I find they where and still are careless, I have similar or worse stories to tell you. Early in the spring, I took my S70 AWD for a little TLC, an oil change (seasonal service special). I enjoyed a nice complementary Vanhoutte cup of coffee while waiting for the service/oil change to be done, nice coffee & hospitality. A couple hours later, I was told the car ready. So paid my bill, assuming that everything is okay, got in my car, started it and my engine coolant RED light was on. What am I supposed to do ? Drive away with a RED Coolant light on from the dealer's service lot. Service attendant/clerk did not say anything about a red light. So I got back in and told the service clerk about the light. He checked with the mechanic and came back to tell me that when he was doing the service, he accidentally knocked the coolant sensor wires off, hence the red light. So, I was frustrated and asked that they fixed it. Now I had to wait again, so that I can get my car serviced again. Got the car back with an additional bill of $79 for parts and labour. This was my last thank you to Valentine. On another previous occasion, I had a small antifreeze leak, like on or 2 drops overnight. Valentine said my water pump is starting to leak and needs to be replaced. I said go ahead and replace it. When I got the car back, the next morning there was a pool of antifreeze under the car. So I drove immediately to Valentine. Later on that day, I got the car back and the mechanic that worked on my car, told me that he did not have the proper bold/nut hence the leak. I said thank you for letting me know, it is a good thing that I was not driving to Vancouver. A few month later after my water pump was replaced, I took my Volvo to my regular Mechanic to replace my fog light. As he was looking/inspecting the engine compartment he asked me if I had my water pump replaced - I said yes, I did it at Valentine, how did you know I replaced my pump. His reply was: I don't do CRAPPY WORK/job like this, this is not my work ( i used to do most of my service at that Mechanic - unfortunately he's not there anymore) read more

My experience at Valentine Volvo was amazing. We just purchased a 2011 Honda Civic SE from Collin. Not only was Collin great to deal with but we made the sale primarily over the phone. My girlfriend is in university in Lethbridge, and I am currently living in Red Deer. Collin understood that we weren't able to make it down to see the car during the week, and helped us work around that. We discussed price, options, and specs of the car. They also took very detailed pictures of the car for us. We had a date in mind to go meet in Calgary, and the dealership also worked around that (holding the car for longer then typical with deposit) When we got to the dealer Collin was busy with selling a car to another customer/ delivering it to the customer in Brooks, so he had Ben look after us, Ben was also amazing. After looking the car over, taking it for a test drive we realized that the car was actually in better shaped the described over the phone. These two men did an amazing job with closing our sale with ease. I had 4 other cars lined up to go look at on that friday and saturday but didn't need to. With how easy the dealer made it for us we couldn't even think to go somewhere else, and we will be back to purchase from there, hopefully the same salesmen in the future. read more

I had a great experience with the purchase of my new Volvo wagon. Richard T. is one of the best I have ever dealt with. Kind courteous and patient. I had a Volvo previously and enjoy dealing with Kevin T. in service. He is helpful. The only complaint I have is in the past, when my car was serviced it came back dirty. In fact they had to keep it an extra day to wash the seats. In another instance they updated my software and did not have proper QA. My climate system did not work. Other than some issues with service, which I hope they will strive to improve, the buying experience was great. read more

This is a great service dealership. For example, they couldn't find one roof-related issue I had brought up to them, an issue which appeared intermittently with my car. They just couldn't pinpoint or repeat it. Lo and behold a year after my warranty expired when i brought the car in for service the issue reappeared, and the service manager was available to actually see it. And so they covered the entire repair without any out of pocket to me. THAT is what real service is about. As is the ability to cab it at their expense if they are too busy to pick me up to get back to the dealership. I have to say I'm pretty happy... They'd get 5 stars if they could remember to call back from voice messages and if they had enough staff to answer the service phone line more often :P But frankly this dealership is far better than the majority out there - by a long shot! read more

recently bought an XC 90 from my brother and looked at his service records which showed an oil change cost $250. thinking that was outrageous I brought it to Mr. Lube and not only was the oil change 100 less they discovered that Valentine had overfilled the oil to the tune of an extra 2 litres. I had to write about a fantastic experience that I had at Valentine Volvo yesterday. I am a home mechanic and was working on my 2010 S40 Volvo. I had an electrical wiring harness that had failed and needed replacement. So, called the service department and they put the new harness (at a good price) on hold for me for purchase when I got a chance to pick it up. I got to Valentine's to pick up my part and paid for it. then asked if it would be possible to speak with a service rep as I wasn't entirely sure how to overcome an installation problem. I spoke to a rep (Nathan) who exhibited excellent knowledge and went through the tricky installation process with me giving me the tips I needed to get the job done properly. I completed the replacement of the harness without any problems thanks to Nathan's advise! All in all I was very impressed that they helped me out as much as they did to increase my knowledge in completing the job successfully rather than pushing me into having them do it... I will definitely return here for future parts and service as I consider them an honest business. I should also mention that while I was there I was looking at their new vehicles and a very helpful and informative Sales rep (David Wong) was happy to answer all my questions about the new model I was inquiring about, even though he looked to be very busy and knowing that I am not looking to purchase immediately. The whole experience was positive and I will come back when I am ready to purchase my next vehicle! read more

Not really sure we were ready to give up our minivan life for a crossover, I went to Volvo simply as it is nearby to our workplace. From the moment I walked in the door - and throughout the two week period it took for us to finally decide - we felt supported and generously accommodated by our sales representative, Richard. He was gracious and refreshingly personable. He patiently worked through a myriad of options on pricing, discount offers, and model selections until we identified the perfect 'nearly new' white XC90. Prior to any formal agreement, he even offered an extended test drive so we could really experience 'Volvo life' - this all done without any sales pressure whatsoever. I really felt that he was working WITH me to find the best fit for our family. Needless to say, following the extended test drive, we were smitten with the quality and impressive 'space solutions' the XC90 provided our family of 5 and happily purchased it ASAP. I would highly recommend Richard at Valentine Volvo and am grateful we ignored the negative reviews ourselves as it made the experience all the more surprisingly fun. Would not recommend Valentine for any kind of Volvo repair. We had a quote from Mr Volvo on replacing a right axel CV boot, which they noticed while doing some other work. Valentine was close to our house and recommended by someone who has a Volvo (though they hadn't tried Mr. Volvo) so we thought we would give them a try. They quoted us more than double the labour costs that Mr. Volvo quoted. When we politely asked why they responded with " Well, we're an official Volvo dealer." Our family has not had a problem with Mr Volvo, and we come from a long line of Volvo owners. I recommend giving Mr. Volvo a shot for any repairs. read more

I purchased a used Volvo from Valentine as it was low mileage & in very good shape. The sales staff was excellent & until this incident the service department was great. Late Nov. 2016 I had returned from a weekend away and had a "Check Engine" malfunction indicator light illuminate on the dash at the start of our trip. I immediately checked the owner's manual which basically says get it checked ASAP or you may damage your engine. When I phone the service department early Monday morning and am told that the vehicle can be serviced 23 days later this is cause for concern, even though I make it very clear what the owner's manual states. When I make contact again and am told to leave the vehicle at the shop for 2 or 3 days I am stymied. When I offer to drop the vehicle and leave it at the shop for a diagnostic check I am again rebuffed and told that they don't do "drop-in" service. I'm thinking that if they're going to have my vehicle for several days then possibly a loaner vehicle would work, but am declined on this request as well. After having the vehicle checked at an independent shop I emailed Volvo Canada, the owner of Valentine + the head of service. Volvo Canada never responded while the dealership was very apologetic - too late, damage done. I've never been back. It's a shame as my XC60 is a great vehicle & I'd buy another if there was another dealership in or near Calgary. read more

I gave then 1 star for answering their phone; Last year i moved from Southern US and shipped my 2006 Volvo S40 which had approximately 40,000 miles on the odometer. In the Fall I called Valentine Motors to schedule the installation of a 'block-heater' and servicing. Approximately 3 hours after scheduling the appointment I received a call from the Volvo dealer informing my they would do the servicing - but - they were unable to install a 'block-heater' because they would be unable to locate one for a 2006 Volvo model! According to Volvo America, the 2006 motor is similar to the 2015 model with slight modifications! SO, WHY didn't Valentin Volvo Service Department know this? Birchwood Motors, Winnipeg and Volvo of Edmonton both offered to ship a block heater to Valentine Volvo. I refused their offers because if the Service Department was too stupid to know this- they are also too stupid to install it. I now take my Volvo to Edmonto Volvo for servicing and they also installed the block heater into my 2006 model. . read more
