I've spent 3 weeks here this season, and feel like I could live here. I can't give it a better recommendation. Considered one of the 'snow-sure' resorts, Val d'Isere is more likely to have decent snow coverage than most. Fantastic pistes, very efficient lift network throughout the resort. There really isn't much more you could ask for from a ski resort.

The best station for skiers in the Alps bar none!

The officially cited total length of the ski runs is 300+km. Don't believe this figure. It's been shown by independent third party analysis that this is a 27% increase and the actual figure is more likely 236km. Still quite a bit of piste! This resort is pretty nice however the biggest downside is the exorbitant food prices. A moderately priced meal for two will set you back anywhere between 70-100€! A tartiflette, which is simply a potato gratin with cheese and some bacon will set you back €24 on average. Considering that most skiers will have a meal for lunch and dinner, the costs quickly add up. No wonder you see so many people having picnics on the slopes! However if one ignores the food prices and focuses just in the skiing then the resort merits four stars. read more
