During our recent trip to Italy, our primary tour guide recommended Vacanze Romane Souvenir shop for gifts while we were in Rome. It is very close to St. Peter's Square; indeed, some of us had opted to attend the Pope's weekly Wednesday address at St. Peters (MOBBED - Pope Francis is very popular), and the entire group arranged to meet at the shop after his address and sightseeing in this part of Rome.
Vacanze Romane Souvenir has rosaries of every color, type and material, many religious statues and paintings, an extensive selection of religious books, and miscellaneous other beautiful Italian-made gift items. They also have an unusual service: they have any religious item blessed except books (I'm not sure why books are exempted), provided you are part of a tour group. After making your purchase, you give them your tour leader's name, the hotel name, your name and room number; after being blessed, they send your gift items to your hotel, care of your tour guide.
I purchased rosary bracelets for all my nieces, and received very happy comments from them. My sister bought me a pretty millefiori watch at the shop (a birthday gift). The staff is warm and friendly, and their English was a lot better than my Italian! read more
