They only take cash, which I found out getting some popcorn... but it was still pretty good popcorn when I finally got the cash. Was here on a Thursday night and there were about a total of 10 cars in the lot... plus people watching from the hotel.. I hope the get credit for those people... or hope that this place gets busy on the weekends...

It's one of a little over 300 drive-ins left in the U.S., and at 8,000 feet, it's the highest elevation drive-in theater in the country. The surrounding views are spectacular! We saw The Sheep Detectives, listening to it on 98.7 FM. The place was packed, and we had several wistful moments as we watched kids in pajamas snuggle into sleeping bags in the backs of SUVs. In full disclosure, I wore my jammies too. Even the food, while a tad pricey, was excellent in quality and taste. We sorta wish we could go back in time and bring our kids with us! I didn't take a picture of it but it was a really good deal for $7 each. They also sold popcorn, candy, drinks, pretzels and more. They even offered radios to rent out if you don't want to drain your car battery. The movie was great to watch with clear picture and good sound. It's a small theater and makes it feel like family owned, not sure if it is though. But either way it makes you feel welcomed without the pressure. Prices are very reasonable, $20 for 2 medium sodas, small popcorn, and 2 tickets. Even though the popcorn was free, the prices are perfect for a date night. The theater itself is small but I love it. Makes it feels like a small town knows everyone size. From the lobby to the bathrooms to overall cleanliness I'd alone give it 5. And the one movie they show is helpful in deciding times. Plus the seats are wide enough that everyone can seat comfortable, though a tip would be to be aware you will sink in them lol. The only very short downside is upstairs you'll get employees walking and it casts shadows. So if your sitting in the very back, be prepared to notice the annoying shadows. Unless your the special person that can ignore them, they can distract from the movie. Would I recommend? Absolutely hands down. I don't know if I can "covert" back to the larger theaters. More than happy about this place. You have to go at least once to get a true movie theater experience.

When he asked the only two teenage staff at the concession counter to speak to the manager one of the teenagers said she was the manager. My husband explained the problem and she got upset with him stating no one else has complained before! She refused to go back and check, all she said she could do was hit a reset button. He came back and sat down, we waited another 15 minutes and nothing changed. So we both went out to let her know nothing happened. She instantly had attitude and said she hadn't pushed the button yet and said we were inpatient! Her voice started shaking and she started to yell at my husband! She even told me that he was acting like her dad and she felt sorry that I had to go home with him. I tried several times to calm her down but the more I tried the worst she got! We finally got our money back and left. We waited another month and tried a different movie hoping she no longer worked there. This time we were told that they were only seating people in the private room because there was only 2 other people that were there to watch the movie. We were okay with that until we went in there. The room was small, very dirty and the tables and chairs were sticky! The popcorn was old and the liquid butter machine was pure oil!! We immediately stopped eating the popcorn and went to the concession stand to let them know about it. They didn't care, said that that happens a lot. It's really sad that whoever owns this movie theater doesn't care about it or the community. We are all about supporting our local businesses but we will not be giving this place our money. I'm a history-buff, and I love that sort of thing, but I wish they would upgrade the seating to the more modern seats that now lay back a bit for comfort. The overstuffed red velvet chairs were quite comfortable, for stationary chairs, but there's no changing your position. And there's not quite enough foot-room for someone like me, 6'4" tall. The popcorn was fresh, buttered perfectly, and absolutely delicious! The staff was quite friendly, very nice, and the theater itself was very clean. Nice, well lit and with a clean men's restroom. I'm cold-natured, and the theater was not warm enough for me. I was OK with a big down jacket, but I loaned that to my lady friend to cover her legs, which were too cold. So I sat there and watched a movie, just a little bit uncomfortable because of the temperature. We are over 65, and they gave us a nice discount for being seniors! The feature film last night was Michael, the Michael Jackson story portrayed by Jaafar Jackson. It was very entertaining, and we got more than our moneys worth! The Gunnison - crested Butte area only has one Movie Theater, and I have to give them credit... It's a pretty darned good one!
