We were in SLC for a couple of days, and the hotel told us about the Trolley system. Pickup spots were nearby, which made it very convenient. It's free to travel within the downtown area and just a couple of dollars to ride further out. The transportation was easy to use, with clean buses and trolleys, and clear signage. I had a bus incident recently. The bus driver ride in Downtown and stopped so quick that I felt off from front seat to floor.I got strong hit in my left side of my head and lost concussion, disoriented for short time. Due this sensitive situation the bus driver involved police and emergency. Police advised me to be accompany to the emergency room for make sure if everything ok. And I was taken to the emergency room to check my head injury and did CT head scan. Now, I am facing a lot of emergency billing from emergency ambulance and hospital that I had due this incident. UTA claim department informed me that in their general case any kind of injury they will going to cover only 3 thousand. It is insane , because emergency and ambulance did not cost this amount. Total now amount to pay is close to 6 thousand total. And I am mad that this kind of corporate business not willing to cover total bill of people's injury that was cased by their employee bad training. I just want to be aware if you riding in UTA ride bus or any transportation due any injury by their employee case they are not going to be cover your expense, and you will be responsible for paying bill yourself. As a low income, I am straggle to pay this enormous bills. Just be aware better to avid riding on UTA transportation because it is not safe and you are responsible for your health. Bus driver in UTAH did not train well, and always harsh stop and any stations, driver do not wait when after you enter seat, they immediately drive after you hop on on a bus. As, a low income employee I am not able to afford have a car. That is why I use only transit UTA when going to buy food. My general transportation except UTA ride, is my bike. read more

For starters, I am glad the state has some transit. But, most drivers are incompetent and inconsiderate, there's no coordination between bus and train routes, dirty trains and bus seats, awful Sunday and holiday service. I have seen cleaner stations with more services in the so-called third world. The train attendants won't stop harrassment, won't ask people listening to loud music to put on headphones, and pretend to unsee passengers who are actively dirtying the train by eating, throwing trash, and putting feet on seats. Some days I think they want to provide the worst service so that they can shut the whole thing down because folks don't want to use it unless they're desperate. read more

The men and women of UTA are awesome they notice you and make sure you arrive at your destination safely and secure. The greeting you receive as if you are part of a family is unmatched. I asked the bus driver how far east the bus went and he asked me where I was going and I said that I just needed to know how far east he went. He again asked where I was going, I reiterated that I just needed to know how far east he went. He said Olympus cove, I told him I didn't know where that was, I just needed to know how far east the bus went. He asked me where I was going. The whole thing was super creepy and it was really weird that he refused to tell me how far east he went and kept asking me where I was going. I clearly didn't want to say, but he kept asking. As an aside, the transit app is worthless. The red line is under construction, but the app keeps navigating people to use it and transfer to a temporary bus line. Issue is that you should expect 30min delays using this method. Why doesn't it tell you to use the multitude of buses available? I DON'T KNOW. But i guess they think its easier to be late than it is to use their buses. read more

I am only giving two start for a couple of drivers I had a few years back who went above and beyond and were really kind. Those two drivers i have not seen in a long time so I'm not sure if they still drive the buses. I think you need to hire more drivers who are polite, who wait when they see someone a few feet away running up to the bus. You need drivers who wait for passengers to be seated and who if they see someone get hurt due to their crazy driving ask if they're ok especially with small children and elderly. Over the years I have seen the bus system get worse. In the past I didn't mind waiting ten minutes or being out ten minutes early I expected there would be things unexpected like helping a wheel chair on the bus or helping someone with the bike rack but over the years there has been times they don't show up after waiting a half hour past scheduled time and there has been many times they are later than fifteen minutes and times when they pull upon too early and leave with someone headed to the stop on time in clear sight. You say hello they glare at you and you say thank you they glare at you. They let the elderly and children fall on the ground as they speed off without time to get a seat. I made complaints in the past and saw it go from bad to worse. For those few drivers you get who are really sweet this is not about you i thank you but for those who have a stick up their butt things really need to change. I am also disappointed to see the bus stop benches removed and a lack of bathrooms along bus, track and front runner. Sure the trains have bathrooms on them but the stops only allow employees and the train bathroom is always taken. It's really hard to sit out their for an hour with kids that need to wee and you tell them wait the train will come but then it's one bathroom to a crowded train cart so they just end up peeing themselves on the train. I think also the bus stops could use bathrooms along them. read more

their punctuality is an absolute joke - they will always be late when you're at the frontrunner station on time and they always arrive early and leave early when you're on your way to the station. The inconsistency is just absolutely ridiculous. I have used many modes of public transportation across the country and I have to say UTA has been the absolute worst. I have only used inner-city trax and the front runner here so I speak for both of them - I have no idea what the bus situation is like. You're really left with no other choice other than driving yourself, but we know how long that takes via car when you need to get to the very few important places Utah has to offer. Overall, I'm absolutely disappointed in the management style and the staff that UTA is comprised of - they need to restructure the entire thing: punctuality, quality and maintenance of the vehicles, schedule synchronicity between all forms of transportation, and training for the staff who are ill aware of the importance of running public transportation like clockwork. read more

I bought tickets for the World Finals Monster Jam show located at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. The email that we received on July 3 from Rice-Eccles Stadium encouraged attendees to use UTA Trax for the event and said that our ticket allowed us to ride Trax for free. My disabled husband who uses a wheelchair, our nine year old son, and I attended the show on Saturday, July 5, 2025. We dropped our personal car off at the Provo Frontrunner station and from there we rode the Frontrunner train northbound to Murray Central and then took the Red Line Trax to the Stadium station. After the event, there was a large crowd of people waiting to get on the Trax heading south. We had to wait for 20 minutes or so in line just to get to the station. The next couple of trains were extremely crowded, standing room only and since my husband is in a wheelchair we decided to wait for the next available train to arrive so that there would be room to accommodate him. However, some very nice police officers helped him and us to still get on this Trax train. While on Trax, a man sitting next to me asked if we were going to get on the frontrunner train heading south. I said that we were. He said he was texting UTA customer service because the last frontrunner train was scheduled to leave soon and none of us were going to make it in time. He also said that customer service told him that there was nothing that could be done, that if people miss the train then they need to find alternative transportation. Needless to say, I was surprised to learn that UTA would do that, rather than work out a special event schedule to accommodate such a large event. Nevertheless, I still hoped UTA would help the last group of people get to make their final destinations. I was relieved when we heard on the Trax train intercom that the last south bound frontrunner train was going to wait for us. We got off Murray Central Station, and to our shock and disbelief, the last frontrunner train had already left. There were estimated 35-50 people that needed to get on southbound frontrunner, including a large family group with young children besides my own family. We were appalled to learn that UTA would leave people stranded. We couldn't get a hold of UTA customer service on the phone because at this time, they were closed. Some in the group hired Uber to take them where they needed to go. As we were discussing what to do, a northbound train arrived. My husband talked to the man working on the train and asked him if another south bound train was coming. My husband told the UTA worker that several people were stranded but the worker didn't seem to care, acting rather irritated in fact. He didn't communicate with any other UTA workers (we were hoping he would talk to someone on his radio) but instead he just simply stated that a train "should" be coming and that he couldn't talk much longer because they had to hurry to get to their destination. Does UTA care more about making their destinations on time than they do about their stranded customers? Thankfully, we had working cell phones and money and were able to get an Uber driver to pick us up. I am dismayed to think what could have happened if someone weren't as lucky and had serious health needs, or didn't have a phone or money, or were put in a dangerous situation. Needless to say I'm disappointed in UTA. It is a disturbing thought to consider the ramifications UTA could face if something would have happened to any of us. read more

I've been taking public transit for quite a while & the Bus drivers should keep in mind they should give people a few seconds before take off to get to our seats as I fell To my knee'sat one point getting to mine Alos I've witness a bus driver not put down the Rail for a mother & her child fell out of her stroller on to the floor I also feel that they should slow down more cautious and attentive to their stops upon Stooping so the passengers are not jerked around it's not okay just a word of advice I appreciate the public transit it would be nice To feel safe on public transit. read more

I am very fortunate to be able to ride public transportation. I save a lot of money. Sometimes save a lot of time. Saves my sanity staying out of I-15 traffic. Only complaint I have is the seats. I think it's time for vinyl. Everyday it's a struggle to find a clean seat. Sometimes the seats are soaked with what may appear as urine. Sometimes they are dirty with god knows what. I wear dress pants and don't sit in 90% of the seats because they are so filthy and gross. read more

Today i got on the 455 bus and the driver declined me service because he beleived that i tried to throw somone infront of the bus when i was just giving somone a hug goodbye. This man has been rude to me for multiple months everytime i say thank you or hello he looks at me and ignores me and twice now hes told me to hurry up or move faster. Although today he called the cops on me and when the cops got there they found out he was lying and let me on the bus after, im done with briens #1044 behavior its very annoying and I wont be using this service again after this situation. Perhaps it's because I'm coming from a city where most people drive, but I had a fantastic experience using this form of public transit. A trip from the airport to downtown SLC costed a mere $2.50 if I recall correctly. It was on-time, clean, and pretty much empty. Super smooth ride and nice views looking out. Want to just review Frontrunner, not UTA as a whole (generally like the buses), but I guess this is as close as I can get. Just as all these people are piling into SLC area and the train is getting hot n' popular, UTA decides to yank a car from each run to save money. And of course it's the single-level car the elite 10% of patrician riders chose because of its comfy spaciousness. So now even off-peak runs tend to turn into Cattle Car bullshit where you're jammed in with someone next to you and the train people go around harassing you to take bags off seats or whatever between stops because We Are All In Glorious Revolution Together Comrade! Really just another symptom of the further transformation of SLC into California East though: crime, crowding, crappy deals and c*nty attitude coming to a neighborhood near you! read more

I was stranded up at Alta ski resort yesterday because UTA decided to stop running the ski bus for no reason. The canyon was going to have a closure from 1:30 to 3:30 for avalanche control. Signs at the ski lifts notified skiers to leave by 1:00 if they needed to get down the canyon. I decided to leave at 12:00 but missed the 12:00 bus. We were then informed that UTA had suspended bus service until 3:30 even though there was still an hour and a half before the road closure. FOR WHAT REASON. Many of us were just screwed. UTA is the public transit system in Salt Lake City. It has changed a great deal since I lived there half a decade ago. New stops have been added on the TRAX lines, there is a Rapid Transit line called MAX and FrontRunner service provides frequent service between Salt Lake and Ogden. Though some things never change. They still have all day passes that are $5 which makes it an affordable way to get around the city. But also the fact that there is no bus service on several major holidays. For a city so large, I find that appalling. None. You could not get around town on Thanksgiving Day without a car or taking a taxi. Apparently this will be the same deal for Christmas and New Year's. Is this a cost saving tactic or something? It sends a mixed message when you are trying to encourage people to use public transportation. Oh well, the number of riders probably makes this cost prohibitive. That and the fact that hardly any places are open. Holiday issue aside, I think UTA is a good service. Initiatives like MAX which cut down on the number of stops and travel time are great. It is important to serve the community that needs it, but also important to ensure service is expedient and provide reason for people to take public transit instead of driving their cars. And I think UTA succeeds for the most part in doing this. read more

So many times the bus drivers for UTA have done the following: 1. Drove right past me in the middle of the day and have not stopped. Probably to catch up on time. I get that they are on a schedule, but there job IS TO PICK ME UP. I PAY DAMNIT, EVERY TIME. 2. Closed the door on me and drove away leaving me there before I could get on. Which is So rude. 3. Been complete assholes about the masks (mainly women drivers) when i remove it for a second to take a sip of water. Which is ridiculous. Fucking control freaks! 4. UTA has an extremely unreliable service that gets worse every year, despite claims from UTA officials that they are "getting better" from time to time. They rarely run on schedule, so just knowing their departure times isn't enough. When you try tracking them on the Bus/Train Locator on their app because you have no idea when to expect the next bus or train, 50 percent of the operators don't even have their locators turned on. There are no public restrooms at any of the TRAX or Frontrunner stops, but restrooms are privately provided for their employees at most locations. If you expect to hold it in until the Frontrunner arrives, think again. 3-quarters of the time, the restrooms in every car are marked as "Out of Service." More often than most, I've had to get off miles before my original stop to hunt down a bathroom because Frontrunner doesn't have any, and they don't intend to change that fact anytime soon, no matter how many complaints are made to their Customer Service. There is a high crime rate on the TRAX and Frontrunner. Gangs of drug-addicts and vagrants roam the cars, trying to panhandle change from paying customers, or to steal from them at any opportunity. Casing the cars looking for things of value to steal. I've had an electric scooter stolen from me off the train car, even threatened with death on the train platform from a panhandler not accustomed to hearing NO. The UTA train employees and UTA police were indifferent in both these cases, with a "So what" attitude. One UTA employee harassed me because I had a scooter he didn't want me having in the train car, and he said, "No scooters allowed" even though other people ten feet away from him had scooters that he ignored. When I pointed that out to him, he started screaming at me for "having an attitude", rather than explain why I can't have a scooter, but how that rule doesn't apply to others. UTA is one of the worst transit systems ever offered, and I doubt anyone would miss it if they went out of business. They pride themselves on crappy service, rather than quality. People only use UTA out of desperation as an only-effort to get from one city to the other. Criminals use it to stay in business while UTA employees simply smile and watch their crime sprees. As long as it isn't a UTA employee being robbed or threatened​, UTA encourages it on a daily basis. read more

How about a riddle. What takes 1 hour to get you somewhere that you could have walked in about 4 minutes. UTA. 45 mins waiting for bus from airport to trax, 15 min bus ride to get to trax. That isnt even the actual ride home. That is another 30 mins plus any wait time. I cant say enough bad things about them. read more

UTA and it's bus and rail service, for me, can be summed up in 3 words. Better than nothing. Sometimes I'm not so sure if even that is accurate. Yet at times it can seem a life saver. Unfortunately that is rare anymore. So who am I? Why should you care what I think? Because I do not own a car. In my life I have owned 2. 90% of my transit has been bicycle or bus. At one time I could get anywhere in the Salt Lake Valley in a very reasonable time using both. But those days are gone. It seems pretty obvious to me that whomever is running the bus service, is not themselves a rider. To me, I can only guess why something that worked so well once. Not is an anxiety, rude, dangerous and uncomfortable experience. What is it you ask? UTAs agenda is not to serve the frequent rider like myself. It makes more sense that it is a cash cow for the executives and government. It seems to be always expanding. More busses. 15 min wait times, sounds great. So why do most when not in the peak hours almost always empty? Because many of the drivers don't seem to like their job or passengers. Why should they? UTA doesn't either. Many drivers will pass you by if you are not right next to the stop. Get on and prepare to see what g-force is, as your tossed around the bus. Now your seated, dont let your gaurd down because hard breaking will be often. Hold on to your phone. It will end up, sliding to the front of the bus, once it lands. No apologies will be heard. Now time to transfer to another bus? You may ser it drive away as you getting near. Its after 6pm. Wont be seeing it again for another 30min. Hope you dressed warm. Bus may not even show, due to driver shortage, or route changes that there is no available information about. Thats just the start. read more

Simply terrible service. If you are trying to use public transit for commuting, this is not the place. Half the time you can either be 45 minutes early or 15 minutes late, your bus may have already gone by ahead of its time before you get to the stop, and even when a bus tells you it's going to get you somewhere, there's a good chance one bus will be late/early and you will miss a connection and there wont be another one for a half hour to an hour. Some buses only run every TWO HOURS! Schedules change on weekends and may not even run on Sundays. Welcome to Utah! Terrible, terrible, terrible. It actually ends up working out to be LESS money to own a car under a lot of circumstances than it is to try to use the bus regularly. Plan to use Lyft as a backup and spend hundreds within the period of a month. NOT WORTH IT. read more

I find it quite expensive to use the train, it's twenty bucks for two.people to slc from Roy. That would almost fill my tank and I'd still have some left over after the trip there and back. My other complaint is the train will sometimes depart early, don't list your departure time if your gonna leave before it, stay until the ACTUAL departure time. I could see the frontrunner station with no train at 640; by the time I parked and was about to get out of the car it was 642, got to the bench at 643 but, I still missed the train leaving at 645. The train left at least 7 minutes early. I don't wanna sit in the baking sun for 20 minutes in case they decide to change their damn schedule. If you put a schedule online you need to keep it! read more

Prices for trax is absolutely ludicrous. In Phoenix you could ride all day for no more than $1.10. I rode trax off and on last winter and am happy to say I do not have to endure the creeps, loud irresponsible youth, smells, and loss of my time waiting for the trains or buses to arrive. I am all for saving on pollution and all that but in Utah it's simply not worth it. I felt safer in Arizona. read more
