It is possible to like post offices. Some of them, including a surprising number of small satellite post offices in rural America, are competently and cordially staffed by an ample number of efficient employees. This ain't one of them. Any time of day for whatever purpose you may have, you should expect to wait up to 30 to 40 minutes for service... even if all you're doing is picking up a package!!
Honestly, I have found the employees here quite helpful, but there simply aren't enough of them to deal with the incredible inflow downtown, ususally only one or two at a time even during the noon hour. Located a mere block from City Hall, the place is jam packed with folks with all sorts of often complex queries. Located downtown, this post office sees a diverse range of customers, many of whom speak primary languages the staff there, however well meaning, are ill equipped to deal with.
Even more frustrating is the fact that this post office cannot even manage all of the tasks that it advertises! On my most recent visit, I arrived hoping to send a document via international express to Macau. I waited in line 32 minutes (rounding down) only to be told that the post office wholly lacked the labels to process international express post and that I had to visit another location, the location over on Washington Street that I have actually had much more success with. Whaaaaaaat?!
If you have a choice, I'd advise visiting the Washington Street or even Main Street location and saving yourself the inevitable hassle you'll encounter here.
