When we got there there was a line of people who hadn't yet ordered and others who were waiting for their food. Someone walked up to us asking for our order. Then we waited as they cooked everything in front of us and handing them to patrons. We got the chile relleno ($30 MXN) and mushroom tacos ($30). We liked the chile relleno one more as it was cheesy. Both tacos were a little oily but they were good. There were some salsa stations on the side for extra flavor. There was nowhere to sit so people either ate standing or took their food to go. This stall was authentic and the food was inexpensive. This was street food at its core.

Also got an empanada with amarillo (yellow mole) with chicken - SUPER tasty flavor, really enjoyed that. The sauce is also quite liquidy. Everything made on the spot so it's hot, and there are three salsas you can add at your leisure. 30MXN each per taco, 60 MXN for the empanada.

When you receive the tlayuda, ask for the onions (cebollas), which Doña Gloria will hand you in a Tupperware container. Relax, eat, and stare at the stars in her front yard. I tried 5 or 6 other tlayudas in Oaxaca, including much better-known ones like Tlayudas Libres, La Biznaga, and it's not even a contest. Near the end of my trip, I brought a guest here who was in town for a week and he'd had 2 other tlayudas. Visiting Doña Gloria restored his faith in the dish. Her cenaduría opens about 8:45 PM every night and stays open past 11. I posted a photo of the sidewalk sign you'll see on Rio Amazonas, midway between Rio Grijalva and Rio Consulado. Yelp's map placement is accurate within 20 meters. She's well known in the La Cascada neighborhood. During various trips…read moreto Oaxaca I have let 5 folks take a bite of my burger and they all immediately ordered their own...sometimes two!! You can get your burger with several toppings but the best is "con todo". It includes the patty, a slice of cheap ass Fudd ham grilled, American cheese or Oaxacan quesillo, lettuce, tomato, grilled or fresh onion', some pickled jalapeños, a few chunks of pineapple, Mexican Mayo and a little mustard. The hotdogs aren't that great but they have them. Mario's usually shows up after 5 or 6 near the Zocalo but they may move around. After 10 pm the line gets long with all the drunk folks needing something to soak up all that mezcal or beer. But don't worry because the cook has his technique down. They were only 35 pesos but worth twice that!!!

You got regular hot dog buns, but with gooey and toasted cheese and topped with bacon , Pico de Gallo, ketchup, mayo, mustard and *chapulines*. I had to try these and it was amazing!!! They also top the hot dogs with chicharrón for more crunchiness. The hamburgers have fresh grilled pineapple with a meat patty topped with ham and cheese, and you can also top with tomato, lettuce and salsa. We visited this stand several times on our Oaxacan vacation and I must say I think I am addicted and will miss it!

It's a whole little center of tiny nieve establishment outside a church. Honestly all of the establishments offered almost identical flavors of nieve so I think it's just a matter of finding one with good sitting. We went during the week and place was full. The place is full of so many vendors asking to purchase something constantly while eating but I did not mind much because we ended up buying from most of them. They are almost all indigenous vendors who offer hand crafted items from bracelets to alebriges. There is also live marimba music. This is a must stop when in Oaxaca. All the locals recommend coming to las Nieves. Can't wait to come back.

My favorite place to get my ice cream is El Niagara, I remember going as often as I could with my dad or my mom when visiting family. And to this day I keep ordering the same combinations, mamey w/lemon, leche quemada w/tuna (prickled pear) and last but not least sorbete & strawberry. This plaza was recently renovated, so now you get a different feeling when you visit, there's also some food stands and the traditional candy/dessert stand (that I've heard is not that great, I just don't like getting too close to it as I am scared of bees)

They serve 2 things: tacos de cabeza de res (tacos with beef head meat), and consome de res (beef broth soup). The tacos are tender and very flavorful, served up with a nice salsa verde that balances the richness of the meat nicely. Dress it up to your liking with limes, red sauce, or a spicy green sauce. I love flavorful broth soups, and for me, the first sip of the consome, served in an unassuming styrofoam cup, was a transcendental experience. I can imagine it would be even better to have this delicious soup on a chilly evening. Very reasonably priced. Our tab for 2 people: 9 tacos + 2 consomes + 1 Coke = 123 pesos. Tip generously because it won't break the bank. Return often because they deserve your support.
