It's a good place to look for a present for the person who has everything as you're bound to find something in here they haven't got. The shop can get very busy with people looking at things so be careful not to knock anything fragile off the shelves as you're weaving past other shoppers. Also, as part of their ethical stance, Evolution don't particularly like giving plastic bags out but you'll get a beaming smile if you tell them you don't need one.

The stock is rotated on a regular basis, and they have sales on pretty frequently also. The staff are also really helpful and friendly, which is nice to see in retail these days! It isn't the largest store and it really does have the jumble sale look, especially upstairs in the homewares section. It's a shame as TK Maxx are by far my favourite UK retailer - apart from the poor aspects of this store they generally sell absolutely brilliant goods at excellent prices. They have a poor returns policy, so make sure you keep your receipt, and you must return items withing 14 days. Oh yeah, take a bag with you too or it'll be 6p!

OK, they don't have an actual catalogue as such, but I classify any shop that makes you sign up before actually allowing you to buy anything as well, something other than a regular B&M store. Just annoying, maybe! That said, I have to admit Matalan very often have some mighty fine product. My two year old navy work skirt suit from them still gets compliments, and fits so perfectly it might have been made for me. I've also had some absolutely beautiful shoes from them. Still annoying!

It stocks mainly clothes, plus shoes, books, CDs, videos, bric-a-brac, and a small section for toys. The central location means that stock turnover is high, so even if you pop in every day, chances are you'll see something new. However this does mean that the shop gets very busy, especially at lunchtime. The clothes rails are tightly packed together so it can be difficult to manouvre between them when other people are trying to do the same. Also, there's only one changing room, so there can be queues if you want to try something on. Prices are average although there is sometimes some illogical pricing - sometimes they have items from Primark etc that are priced close to what the items would have cost new. I particularly like the book section, as they have some interesting books in great condition, priced around the £1.99-£2.50 mark.
