It was the Center Tuftonboro General store and Post Office. OMG! When I walked in, I almost cried with nostalgia. My grandparents owned Dorions Market in Rumford, ME when I was growing up. This was almost a carbon copy. The floors, the smells. And then, the beautiful proprietier, Mary. She was dressed like she was working at Saks 5th Ave! She saw the emotion I was emitting and gave me an awesome, brief history lesson on the store. And, when I said I needed ice for a party down the street, she said "Oh, are you here for Maribeth's 60th?!" Love small towns, love authentic, old General Stores. What an absolute treat for me! I can't wait to go back!

There's a big carved indian as you come in the door. The proprieter claims this store is probably older than the Bath Brick Store. Don't know how he reckons that, but I have no dog in that fight (that I know of). There's a guy in the back who makes pizza and subs. Best meatball sub I've had in years. Making a meatball is an art! Pretty drive and good place to stop for a sandwich if you're in the area.

While it may not be a place I go back to for a long time, it's so quaint and the best way to go into the past. No computerized systems of any type! How neat! Handwritten receipts and everything done by hand! Friendly employees and parking right out front. There's a 99% chance you'll be the only one inside of the office anyway. Definitely easier to go to than the Alton Post Office. While the new computerized systems may be easier than doing everything by hand, there is a certain greatness of being able to go into the past, and to be honest, doing everything un-computerized really IS quicker! 5 stars for the Alton Bay Post Office. I'll definitely stop here again.

Horrible service. Refusing to deliver to an established and…read moregrandfathered mailbox for 21 years due to logistics. The mail that they did deliver (wrong address on the other side of the town has been in the mailbox with the flag up for over two weeks, and they have refused to service the address, stating that it's a hazard and that they can't back up. There's more than enough room for a three point turn inside of the driveway (16' wide) to turn around, and if they don't want to....there's a turnaround and the end allowing for no backing up. The lies by this office are insane, making every excuse possible even though refutable, simply because it's 20 minutes extra on their route, and because of the "volume of packages" received. After visiting the house, the supervisor admitted that it was an established grandfathered mailbox, and that the carrier was asking to place the mailbox in the drainage ditch (5' deep less than 2 feet from the edge of the road), because she didn't feel safe pulling into the driveway, but would feel safe enough to deliver the mail in the breakdown lane of a 55MPH zone. He admitted that the driveway was safer than the side of the road, but would not address the package volume. I don't believe that ALL of the employees are incompetent, but one carrier has rallied the other employees with sob stories, and has poisoned the entire staff, because of the "volume of packages". I'm seeing the same issue with many other homeowners in the Effingham / Ossipee area, suggesting that this office may need to become a clean slate with all new employees. Extremely rude and unprofessional behavior on every clerk and carrier I have come into contact at this office. Truth is a must, as it requires public trust. This office offers no truth, but instead is defensive, accusatory and insulting.

This is absolutely not true because our street and driveway were all plowed and clear at the time they "attempted" delivery. Also our regular postal delivery person had no problem delivering our regular mail and I had no problem making it down my street to go to the store in my front wheel drive car. This is the second time they have lied about attempting delivery. And of course I tried calling them today and the phone just rang and rang 30 times and no one can even bother to answer. You're horrible USPS. UPS is so much better than you!
