The staff is very helpful. I had a complicated APO issue and the post master stepped in to help.

Herding Rescue Dogs of Wyoming - 5th foster and a foster failure to boot! snugglebug!

    Herding Rescue Dogs of Wyoming

    (12 reviews)

I am a volunteer, foster parent and adoptee of Herding Rescue Dogs of Wyoming. I have fostered 6…read moredogs, called countless personal references as well as completed equally as many home visits. The exhaustive efforts that go into matching a family to the "right" dog may not be perfect for the adoptee, but it is perfect for the dog. Dogs don't have a voice and the volunteers that willingly foster, call references and perform home visits are the voice of the animal. The foster parent knows intricate details of their foster dog - whether they are good with other dogs/ female dogs only/male dogs only, kids, or cats; whether they are a flight risk; whether they are scared of thunder and fireworks; their activity level (couch potato, moderate energy, high energy, very high energy); whether they have potential to be a herding or agility pet and much more. There is a genuine matching process that goes on behind the scenes based on the application responses as well as the personal and vet references. The goal is the dog goes home for their forever life to the "right" family. I was absolutely *not* looking to adopt a pet. One of the volunteers I have worked alongside for years asked if I could foster a border collie/spaniel mix for a month. That little girl wormed her way into our hearts and lifestyle and has been the most amazing dog we've ever had. She is smart as a whip, and super affectionate. So affectionate we are planning to start "Therapy Dog" training very soon. Each time one of my foster dogs has met their forever home, I have had no doubt that is where the dog belonged. The dog chooses the owner as much as the owner chooses the dog. The exhaustive, and yes, sometimes long & arduous process is worth the wait when you see the joy in the dogs faces as well as their new family's faces. Please keep in mind for every negative review, there are ten success stories. Yes, sometimes applications can fall through the cracks; sometimes there are no dogs that match the applicant's request; sometimes a person might not be good fit for any of our current dogs. However, we try to make every effort to match our animals to the "right" forever home based on conclusions and personal assessments of the volunteers.

1 star seems like too many to give here. I did my application and they contacted all of my personal…read morereferences. They knew I was about to move so I would not be able to adopt right away. I did my application before I moved because they say it takes at least two weeks to even process the application. I sent them pictures of our house once my dad and I moved in saying that we just got into the house that day but wanted to get the pictures sent to them. I did this because I could already tell they were awful at responding. They eventually called me after looking at my house pictures and I told them the two puppies I was interested in. Joan gave me the contact information of the foster mom and I was told to call her to learn about the puppies personalities. My dad and I talked with her and set up a time to meet the puppies that week. My boyfriend and I then drove to the foster mom's house, mind you it was a 10 hour drive, and fell in love with them. My dad wanted to wait to officially adopt them for 12 days because we were still moving into our house. The foster mom said that would be okay and called Joan to make sure that would be okay and said she would call me back if Joan said otherwise. Joan also did not respond to the foster mom's call so I never heard back from her. I was emailed by Joan several days later saying she understands that I decided not to adopt the puppies and that they are placing them with other families to adopt. I emailed her saying I had every intention of adopting them and how they were perfect for me, especially after meeting them. I explained how I had already bought everything I would need to take care of them and would do anything I could to be able to adopt the puppies. I called her and left two voicemails, which she did not respond to. Joan finally emailed me back with a very short response saying other families would now be getting the puppies instead of me. In all her emails to me, she was short spoken and quite rude. Overall, these actions of Joan on behalf of the rescue were completely unprofessional and unethical. This is not how a business should ever operate.
