Damaged TV mount, ripped out of the wall which we're paying for out of our deposit.
    Tom P.

We gave them a shot and highly regretted it. We're not "one" star folks but we feel our experience needs to be shared. My wife and I were moving to a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment about ten minutes east of our old apartment. We were looking for affordable movers and did our due diligence. We spoke with some very competent movers but ended up going with Sparrow Moving because they promised all the services the others did at a much more competitive rate. This was our first mistake. I want to be fair to the movers that showed up. They worked hard but they were clearly overwhelmed by the job and not professional movers. We had even spent the weekend leading up to the move moving 90% of our boxes into the new apartment so all that was left was the larger pieces of furniture and the other boxes we couldn't get to. Here is a list of issues: - The company said they would wrap and pad ALL the furniture. The movers did not, and some of our furniture was damaged in the move. (Pics attached) - We suggested an order to pack the truck and make unpacking at the new apartment more efficient. They didn't follow our instructions. - We were told by the company that we could leave our stuff in the drawers of desks and dressers. That the movers wouldn't have a problem moving them with stuff inside. The movers told us the day of they weren't moving anything with stuff in the drawers and told me to move it myself. So we wasted time clearing out drawers that, if we had been told were an issue, we would have packed earlier. - We paid for an extra service to have them uninstall our TV mount and then reinstall it at the new place. They said this was never agreed to and when I called the company they said they had told them. They uninstalled the mount (damaging it in the process, pics attached) but when we got to the new apartment said they lacked the tools to install it there. - They also said they lacked the tools to take apart and reassemble the bed, which is another service they said they would provide. They did it, but only after we insisted and lended them our own tools. - English was not their first language and communication was difficult. They kept saying they did not understand which pieces I asked them to pack, and then when I told them which ones they seemed to ignore it. When I pointed out I wanted the piece packed they would say I told them I didn't. For instance, I told them to pack our dining room table hours into the move the table remained unpacked. When I asked the movers about it, they said I told them not to pack the table, which I clearly did. We wasted ALOT of time doing this. - A real unprofessional moment was when they tried to move our couch into our new apartment but lacked the skill or knowhow, they just shoved it through the door scratching up the walls (picture attached) and when they could not get it through, they said it couldn't be done and they wanted to leave it in the hallway of our new building. We insisted they take it back to our old place, and we had to leave it in our garage until we hired professional movers the next day who were able to do the job in 30 minutes without any problem. Overall, they just were not prepared for this move and told us that we had too much stuff. They arrived at 2pm and did not finish the job until midnight leaving a scatter of boxes and furniture all over as opposed to listening to my wife or myself on where we wanted things place. At the end of the night, they insisted that we pay them overtime and that we signed a contract for that. The only contract I signed was to guarantee a certain rate for hours worked and they were pushy but I showed them the contract. It was clear they were more frustrated with their company than with us and that there was a lot of miscommunication about what was expected for this move. I paid in cash and gave them a decent tip, though they weren't the professional movers the company claimed they were, they worked hard the whole time but they were not prepared for the job. The company called me the next day to discuss the overtime pay issue, and when I told them my experience with the move, they apologized and said they would call back. They never did, so I assume that's the end of it. All in all, the savings I made going with Sparrow Movers ended up costing me the same price it would have cost to hire other professional movers to do the job well once. Not to mention the scratched wall in our new apartment, the damaged furniture and TV mount, and the issues we had with our new building because the move took so long. They made what is already a stressful experience more so. My wife is a professional interior designer and deals with movers for her job, and she was shocked at the poor quality of their work and how long it took. The moral? Pay for professional movers. The cost may seem steep, but you'll be happy you did.

My assigned movers, packers, and shakers were Richard and Anthony. They completed 10 long grueling hours of hard work to help us get from from LA to OC. Although I am probably bigger and stronger than both guys combined, I was no match for their team work and efforts carrying the bigger items (no appliances). They actually got down on their hands and knees to help us pack all of our miscellaneous items the day of. I appreciate their abilities to take criticism well and their customer service could have been better. All together I would recommend what they recommended 1) do your research to find best company for price and personnel 2) pack as much as possible as you can before moving day 3) determine best situation for you is it a 2 person job v. 3 person v. 4 person job. It could really help you save time before the winter night comes. To the managers: please invest in some bootie shoe covers and lifting belts so these guys don't need to use all their muscle strength to prevent injuries! Thanks again.

I give them no stars they quoted me a price and the day before they were to arrive they changed the rate and said they gave me a rate for Los Angeles. Than they arrived 3 hours late and moved slow so that they could get more pay than to add insult to injury they asked me for a tip When I didn't get all of my things moved. And had to pay for extra hours. Today they phoned me which is a month after they moved me and asked me to remove my review and they would give me $100 back. but first I had to remove my review I said no send me the money first she said you don't trust us I said no not after I was quoted one price and charged another. I have attached the screenshots of the text message. read the reviews guys these ppl are not good. The guys that moved my belongings moved very slow but rapped up things good. I wouldn't refer them now after this last encounter.

Welp - I realized I was too busy with the move to take all the pictures but this was my room they had to pack morning of and then the wrap job for fragile items like TV. Since this was my first move from apartment to home - wasn't sure how to estimate the job - but Mike was very easy to work with throughout the whole process. They did a great job wrapping all the necessary furniture, dissembling, and assembling post-move. As a small business owner myself, wanted to give the newer guys a try and they did not disappoint. Thanks Mike and team!

Sophy from the "Quality Department" the only person who offered an apology but all further communication came from Mike.

WARNING: This company is a fraud!!! Where do I start?!? When they were expecting a poor Yelp review they changed the name of their company. But all of their contact information, photos, websites are still for SPARROW MOVING COMPANY. What a joke!!! Poor communication, terrible customer service, and in need staff training. I encountered a similar experience as a person of S.P. had 8 months ago (read their review as well). And based on all of Sparrow Moving's reviews, if someone provides them constructive criticism, the owner Mike responds defensively and accuses them of lying. So my complaint starts with their receptionist (person who answers their phone) took my reservation and said if I make my reservation early I can book at a discounted rate. I asked what "early" meant and she didn't know how to respond. I then told her I'd call her back the next day proceed with my booking after I discussed the rate with the rest of the household. I called the next day (Friday, March 31st) and proceeded with my reservation. She asked me for my cc information but didn't provide me any details, receipt, cancellation disclosures, etc until I had requested it. Then she said she'd send me a confirmation link, it came through and it directed me to a weird site. Then I had to ask for it to be resent. I noticed the "from" email address was in a weird format. 3 hours later I received a call from the same receptionist asking if I'd like to proceed with my reservation with the quote I was given the day before. I appreciated the follow up but the had to point out to her that I thought I had just booked them a few hours earlier?!? She didn't realize I was the same person (although all my information and details that were provided were the same). All of this just started to make me feel uneasy and not confident in the competence of the company so I started shopping around. After finding another company with the same rates (and after doing a more thorough research on reviews of the companies) I reached back out to Sparrow Moving to cancel. And although I never completed my confirmation link they sent me, they told me my deposit was non-refundable because of the short notice. Cancelling within 5 hours of when I made a reservation and more than 3 weeks out of my actual moving date is short notice?!?!? They tried to offer me a $50 discount off of my services.... REALLY??? I'd rather forfeit my $100 deposit than work with a company that calls their customers liars! I have attached all of my email communication to confirm my experience! All within Friday, March 31st through today, April 4th.... For a reservation that was scheduled until April 22nd!!!

The second response I received after not responding to their initial quote: Sparrow Moving Mike S. says, for God's sake answer I definitely won't be hiring to touch any of my belongings. Totally unprofessional.

From the start, they took the time to walk through our home and clearly ask about everything we wanted to move so they could mentally map out how to load the truck efficiently. They were extremely diligent with protection, using blankets and/or shrink wrap on all furniture and electronics, and they were very by the book when it came to reviewing the contract and confirming details. I especially appreciated that they checked all electronics before and after the move and even had me climb into the truck at the end to verify that nothing had been left behind. The move‑in was just as smooth. We had labeled certain items to go to one level and others to another, and they followed those directions perfectly, with everything ending up exactly where it was supposed to, with no damage and no confusion. Their organization and care were obvious in every box/container they carried and every piece of furniture they placed. Moving is usually a very stressful experience, but Fito and the Pure Moving team made it feel manageable and even reassuring. They came right about 15 minutes after the end of the arrival window which actually worked out well so we could prepare more for them, but overall everything was faster than they/we estimated which is great when you're paying by the hour. They used supplies we had bought from Home Depot and Amazon, plus their own for the wardrobe and other big things. One glass jar was broken in the unpacking process and they were quick to apologize and clean it up the best they could. While they ask customers to leave a review (totally understandable), I appreciate that they don't incentivize for them nor do they demand 5 stars. We'll be calling for them again, no doubt. Then the messages started coming in. I received 10 inquiries from various moving companies, but Prodigy came in first. You can tell that the 1st messages look automated, but Abby came in with a personal message as well and sent me the specifics to my move quickly. I had her on the phone within a couple of hours. I had diligently worked through all the companies and looked at the various price points and what it included. I was really weary on how fast things would go, but Abby said, for the size of myhome, she suggested 4 movers at $195. Since they also had great reviews and seemed very professional, I completed my reservation by the end of the day. Day of move: Not going to lie, I waited too long to pack up my office and boy, did I feel it on moving day. My office was still not fully packed, it had a lot of furniture to be moved and I was literally still working when they arrived. Arrival time was between 8-9 AM. Ivan called a little after 8 AM to let me know they would be arriving in about 45 min since it was traffic and they were coming from the valley (I was in Echo Park). So I started excusing myself from work and prepared for their arrival. Everything happened so fast. I showed them around the apartment: 2 stories and 1 level up from garage (2 sets of stairs) and then a long driveway. I had stuff in the backyard and the balcony too. I asked if they could put some furniture out on the street for pickup and they helped me out with that as well! I let Ivan know that I was still working on breaking down the office, so he said he would go there last... and they all went to work. All I could here was the plastic wrap noise going round and round. They had broken down everything! Dining table, Peloton, Recliner chair.. It was amazing to watch and they did it with such care. They were done packing up in less than 4 hrs (3 bedroom apartment). We took the drive down south and they beat me there. They were already unloading and asking where to put things. Not only are they movers, they are also interior decorators LOL. We did not move into an empty house, so they helped us move things around and place stuff where we wanted. On top of that, they rebuilt all the things they took apart. I bought them lunch from a Busy Bee in San Pedro and a neighbor even offered them avocados from her tree! At the end of the day, I couldn't find my bag and phone! The whole team helped me try to find it because we thought it got buried in the garage! I had put it aside in one of the bedrooms and forgot where I had put it, but I was so grateful that they tried to help. I was thinking it would be an 8-10 hr day and it turned out to only be 7 hrs including the drive time. They made a very incredibly stressful time in my life as easy as possible. I definitely recommend Ivan and his team at Prodigy

She said they offer a return customer discount & would ensure I wouldn't have the same team if I used them again. I got this company as a referral from a friend & am hoping this bad experience was a one off. While the move didn't go smooth & I had to pay a task rabbit & a helper money to make up for the lost time I had on a tight deadline, I appreciate Anna doing her best to make up for the bad experience. After this attempt at customer retention, I'd consider this company again. I've updated this review from 1 to 3 stars. The moving experience still stands at 1 but the attempt at repair gets a 5 star effort so I averaged the two. DONT HIRE THESE IMMORAL MOVERS. Today I moved from a 1 bd apt to another 1 bd apt. Any other time I've moved with other companies it has taken 4 hrs with 1-2 movers. This time I request 3 movers bc I had a short window before traveling and I needed it done quickly. Apparently 3 is a crowd. This move took 7 hours. SEVEN HOURS. I watched two of the three unscrew one screw together and it took them 20 minutes on an item that didn't need to be disassembled. They took all the small boxes out of the apartment first and put them out front. Then they continued to do that for a while then they took a few to the elevator and left them around for a little and then eventually loaded them into the truck. Towards the end of the move they had all the large items ready to go into the truck last (unheard of) and two of them went up the elevator to get one roll of Saran Wrap while the third stood outside the truck. One was on his phone every time I looked at him. I asked if one person could wrap furniture while the other two moved items and he snapped at me and said I needed to sign a paper saying I wouldn't hold it against them if the items got damaged. He also said I would need to pay his parking tickets if he got one from being in a loading zone. It was very apparent they were trying to milk the clock. I was quoted 3-5 hours for two people to do a 1 bedroom move so I got a third to speed it up and somehow that made it take longer. On hour 5, and still being at the first location, I called the company because I was concerned with the inefficiency and someone said they'd look into it and call me back. No one called me back. I called again and same thing. I called a third time and told them the movers were now waiting to be paid and I wasn't paying for 7 hours because they were simply milking the clock. The person on the phone was trying to ask me leading questions to convince me it was done right and I stopped her and said you have no idea what I experienced today and the fact that you're trying to tell me shows me you're trying to scam me out of money. I will not be paying for 7 hours of work so what can you do to rectify this? I called HOURS ago reporting my concern and no one called back after saying they would. The person on the phone then told me they'd give me $200 off ($170 an hour was the rate) while the manager the mover spoke to said they'd charge me for 5 hours. Then the manager called back and said I accepted $200 off so they should increase my bill again. I told them no and that I'd be paying the 5 hours and then they asked for tips. I gave them tips. Then I noticed my wine rack was missing within 20 min of them leaving so I called and they told me where it was and it wasn't there so I called back and they blocked me. So I'm missing at least my wine rack and who knows what else because hardly anything is unpacked because this move took all day. Would never recommend this company and will never use them again. I first scheduled a move with dolly but they couldnt secure a truck so I went with a referral from a friend and it wasn't great. I had paid my housekeeper to be with me for 12 hours today to help me unpack and she spent the majority of the day waiting for these guys to move my stuff. I wasted so much time and money today. And now have one day to unpack everything before going out of town. These 3 movers created such a domino effect in such a negative way for me. This was also the most I've ever paid to move. I normally pay around $500 for 2 movers to move in less than 4 hours and this cost me $900 on movers and another $500 for a helper who stood around all day with nothing to unpack because the movers were so inefficient . * $400 on a task rabbit to assemble items the movers didnt*Also they said they'd arrive between 8am and 10am. They got there at 9:45am so the people I asked to help my by supervising the trucks just sat there waiting for two hours. 2 thumbs down
