Ordered takeout and got the Chimichurri Steak Combo ($24.95) and it came with a choice of 2 sides. I chose a side of Seafood Chowder and Roasted Mushrooms with Garlic Parmesan Butter (+$1). The Chimichurri Steak was just ok. It came with 5 thick slices of steak. It was a bit dry but it was marinated well. The steak was a bit tough so it was quite hard to chew. The Chimichurri sauce was disappointing since it was mainly just oil and herbs so it tasted quite bland. The Seafood Chowder was ok and slightly too salty. There wasn't much seafood other than a few small pieces of fish and some veggies. The consistency was quite thick and didn't taste too delicious. The Roasted Mushrooms with Garlic Parmesan Butter was nothing special. I didn't taste the Parmesan butter at all and the mushrooms tasted pretty bland. Overall, I wasn't too impressed and felt like the meal was a bit pricey and underwhelming unfortunately.

On a Saturday 11am in Early May, my sister and I had lunch to try their special. We ordered at the cashier of chicken chimichurri with 2 sides -side salad Caesar and mash potatoes and gravy $10.95. There are plenty of tables to sit and it is self service of plates, water, utensils. The food came out fast. Everything was delicious and I got full. Nice ambiance inside. I forgot how good the food is and everything was freshly made.

Brought a friend here since this has been one of my favorite Pasadena go-to's, and I'm happy to say it still holds up as a favorite :) I ordered the Seared Wild Ahi Tuna with Macaroni & Cheese and Steamed Asparagus as sides, along with the raspberry & ginger kombucha. I loved how soft and juicy the Seared Wild Ahi Tuna was. This is officially my new go-to The Macaroni & Cheese was also super soft and just the right amount of cheesy, so I'm glad I chose that as a side. And the Steamed Asparagus was seasoned really well, so I'd definitely get it again. The staff was really nice and helpful, and our food came out within minutes Plus, the inside of the restaurant is very pretty lol.

It's been forever since we've been here, was in the area and wanted a light lunch, this is perfect! Previously service was like a cafeteria (walk down counter and choose your meal and sides) now, you place your order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. Customer service after placing order is just okay, no follow up if you need anything for your meal. Restaurant is located on Lake Boulevard in Pasadena, street parking is available but limited with payment required, free nearby parking lot available.

Healthy-ish, tasty, and conveniently makes you feel like you made a responsible life choice. Portions could be a bit more generous, but hey--maybe that's the point. Parking? Bring patience. Located on Lake Ave in Pasadena, Urban Plates sits amongst other popular restaurants for lunch. There is street parking but its only for 1 hour. There's also parking in the lots on the opposite side of the street, but those also fill up quick. Urban plates offers up a variety of foods that trend mostly to the healthy side. The prices are a little higher end for lunch, but the quality makes up for it. I ordered the Moroccan chicken with rice and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. It has a nice spice flavor to it, not to be confused with spicy. The sauce has a slight sweetness that pairs really well with the rice. The bread offers a great way to scoop up the last of the sauce and as a nice change in texture. The service was incredible and everyone was really friendly. They have patio seating and its not too loud even in the middle of the day.

I was excited to try Urban Plates after looking at their menu and pictures. It's clearly super popular. When we arrived for lunch around 12:30 Wednesday there was a very long line that moved pretty slowly. Everything took a while to come out, but service was very nice and friendly. I got the chili glazed grilled tofu plate with sides of mushroom stuffing and beets & goat cheese. Everything looked good, so I was surprised how unremarkable it ended up tasting. Everything I got tasted fairly standard but somewhat plain. The tofu was kinda dry and the stuffing was on the mushy side. I also got a slice of mango tart. That was probably the most disappointing one for me. First, I was surprised how small the piece was (maybe 2.5" wide at the crust end) for $8.25. But worse, it tasted strangely sour and the mango was stringy. I don't know if it was an off day or what. But given the popularity and good reviews, I'm just really surprised overall by the food I received. I parked in the garage behind the restaurant. Validation was simple but it ended up costing $6 for a little over 2 hours.

Throwing up and stomach pains from food poisoning. Thanks for ruining my 3 day weekend. My sea bass came raw, pics below. I told the manager and in return they switched it out for a smaller portion that was still undercooked. No apology, nothing. They didn't even replace the side they took away until I asked them to. Canceling my plate pass after this.

This is the place to go to if you want a quick fresh meal. I had the ahi tuna salad and it was delicious. Service was pretty quick and very friendly. It's more of like chipotle style but they bring you the food. I would stop by here again.

Came in by chance and I'll definitely be back any time I'm in the area. TLDR; Vibes are good, protein portions on the small side but the flavor and price more than makes up for it. Had a grass fed steak with marbled potatoes and broccoli. The steak was nice and tender with perfect (to me) levels of salt and seasoning. Haven't tried this style of potatoes , but glad I had them with the broccoli and steak all together. Ate it all before I remembered to take a photo. Very open space with tons of inside and outside seating. Enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the window seats. Order at the register, grab your number, choose any open seats, and a server or the chef will bring out your food. Staff is polite, friendly, and eager to help. read more

I went because of the positive reviews. Unfortunately it wasn't positive for me. For starters the cashier was grumpy. Everyone can have a bad day but this was beyond that. It was condescending. And any tonal effort to cheer her up ended up in a tonal beat down. Two the beef had an odor. It was quite tender but the odor was not a natural one like you'd smell from the different types of meat Rather it was the result from poor handling. And third, there was a 3% "surcharge" I wasn't made aware until I paid for the meal. Mind you I walked up to the cashier and looked at the menu above behind her. I took a number and the food was brought over. This is what you do at a fast food restaurant like Carl's Junior - except that Fast Food restaurants don't request a tip let alone an illegal surcharge. The rest of the staff seemed good so it's not a knock on them. However I'm giving it a single star based on my own rating system below. My 'Anton Scale" if you will: STARS: 5 = I will ditch school or work to go here and will tell others to eat here. 4 = Whenever I'm in the area I will eat here. 3 = I will eat here only if the person I'm with wants to eat here. 2 = I will not eat here even if the person I'm with wants to eat here. 1 = Not only will I never eat here, I will tell others not to eat here. Urban Plates, I came hoping for a 4 and thought you deserved only a 2 after the experience. However in total consideration you've earned a rare single-star from the Anton scale. read more

Natalie greeted us at the register and was super friendly, she took the time to go over the menu with us. It was our first time here, and she answered all of our questions. There was a wide variety of items on the menu, and the food was great. Excellent customer service by our server Javier, he was the highlight of our meal! He was so friendly, personable, and attentive. I hope to see him riding his skateboard around town, and staying fit . The plate menu has a variety of proteins and a chose of sides. I ordered barramundi seabass with a side of Quinoa and beet salad. The dish came with a toasty slice of bread. My partner ordered the cheese burger with a side salad and fries. We drank Coffee and ice tea and enjoyed a free refill. Service was quick on a Saturday mid-afternoon. There were available tables to sit indoors with A/C cooling or outdoor sidewalk side tables for a pleasant warm weather day. I had such a great experience at Urban Plates in Pasadena! From the moment I walked in, everything felt welcoming, clean, and organized. The staff was super friendly and patient while I decided what to order, and the food came out fresh and hot. I ordered the crispy fried chicken plate, and it was honestly amazing. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. You could tell it was made fresh and not sitting around. The fries were golden and lightly seasoned -- not greasy at all -- and the green beans were cooked perfectly, still bright and flavorful with a nice little snap to them. I also loved the slice of bread on the side; it was soft with a little crisp on the outside and topped with herbs that gave it extra flavor. The sauces they included were a great bonus too -- creamy, flavorful, and they paired perfectly with the chicken. Every part of the plate felt balanced and high quality. The atmosphere inside the Pasadena location is really nice. It feels modern but still comfortable, and it's a great place to hang out with friends or family. I typed lemonade on Yelp to get the address and urban plates popped up...they tryna steal my business from lemonade. Well I fell for it! Since I was with one of my homeboy and not a girl, I hesitated about taking him to lemonade because it's a bit on the slim side. It seems that urban plates got some healthy options,but also a dank ass looking steak at the same time. ^.^ 10 minutes later, we rolled up to urban plates and the homie parallel parked his whip like a G. We got to the line and was a bit confused about how to order. Finally we learned that if you're here for the steak, then please pass by all the peepz that are waiting by the salad bar. Ain't no salad eating rabbits in me today! Give me Mah Meat! the Season and sauce on my steak was great. Seriously, I was so HEPPY. the one serious thing that they got to fix is how to deliver a hot steak. my steak barely had any warmth (it doesn't even deserve the word heat) coming off of it. Since we decided to eat outside...it was literally cold within 5 minutes. Overall I'm digging this alternative to lemonade. Not that I hate lemonade or anything. The sides that came with the steaks were tasty and flavorful. The tomato basil soup I got was wonderfully delicious. But seriously though, turn up the heat on that steak some how or lose some serious business. If I wanted some cold protein I'd have some sushi. read more

I Love DINING IN @ Urban Plates. No. 1: its nicely decorated, high ceilings, and a wide spacious Restaurant where I dont feel elbow to elbow to the next Table. Theres plenty of Tables to choose from to have plenty of Privacy. This is the perfect place to eat intimately esp when youre on a date or even when youre by yourself... Secondly: the Food is very TASTY, Delicious, and satisfyingly filling. Naturally theres a lot of good places to eat from w "good" food. But the next step is the Customer Service. And everyone is Friendly and kind here. Because I really dont care how good the food is, if the service is LACKING? Theres no way I will come back. What a great find while driving down the street looking for an interesting place to have dinner tonight. Urban Plates in Pasadena has a simple concept; Make food from scratch...homemade. And not only that, but they are also a training restaurant. Teaching skills and providing opportunities to learn the food industry. Impressive menu and affordable prices for delicious high quality meals. I selected the Surf &Turf plate (grass fed steak and large perfectly cooked shrimp), garlic potatoes, and a house salad. The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Mmm... freshly baked peanut butter chocolate cream pie. Abraham, the host who waited on me recommended the pie. Speaking of service, the place has good vibes, the servers outgoing and FRIENDLY! In fact, a customer left their phone on the table and the server caught her as she was getting into her car to return the item she had forgotten. It was nice to witness someone doing the right thing. I highly recommend eating here. Nice set-up for eating outside and enjoying the warm Fall season. Spacious inside table arrangements. I enjoyed watching the hustle and bustle of the kitchen as it is front and center. It was a delicious dinner. read more

Proud Plate Pass member here! ‍ First, I love Urban Plates, especially this location. My toddler is now in the phase of picky eating and for whatever reason, will always eat the grilled salmon here. It also helps that a bunch of buses and trucks pass by while we're eating on the patio, so it almost feels like the kid is getting a free show with his meal. Secondly, I love all the healthy options. I've had all the salads here and they're all delicious. Also, love their seasonal items which changes things up for us. Lastly, I love their mobile app! As parents, we have to be flexible and fast as we never know when our toddler may switch gears on us. So we order while we're driving to Urban Plates via the mobile app (dine-in option) and once we're there, we enter in the table number...and within 10 minutes, our food arrives! So efficient! Especially when you have an impatient toddler, time is of the essence. Shout out to all the Urban Plates staff who are always so kind and helpful (especially Ashley who helped us at the cashier)! read more

We stopped by for an early dinner at Urban Plates. As first-timers, we didn't have any go-to items on the menu, but quickly found items with the help of a cashier named Dekayla. We chose our table and were served our wine carafe quickly. Our meals came out soon after. The steak with a chimichurri sauce was delicious and went well the tasty sesame broccolini! The Moroccan chicken was flavorful and substantial. Both salads were flavorful and well-portioned. The location was busy in an efficient way, with staff hustling to meet customers' needs. Besides noticing Dekayla actively maneuvering on her side of the counter, anticipating and meeting customers' needs with a big smile, we also noticed a staff member clearing tables without skipping a beat, and many servers going by with other delicious looking (and smelling) plates. There was no senses of feeling rushed and we enjoyed our Pinot Noir carafe at our leisure. Overall, a great experience and great value! Thank you Urban Plates staff! read more

Urban Plates has become a staple for my family and I since we have started coming here in 2021. We are huge fans of the food and have not been disappointed once with anything we have ordered. I highly recommend either the salmon plate or chimichurri steak plate for anyone's first time. The service is always warm and welcoming and like the menu are happy to accommodate anybody's special diet. Sophia took it out with a big smile on her face and made us feel like we were at home. Sitting inside is always nice when it's hot but currently in the fall, sitting by the fire outside, makes it feel like California actually has seasons. As we enjoy our food outside, the jazz that's playing over the speakers helps time stop and helps us enjoy our food and company. Not many restaurants (especially chain restaurants) have it dialed down and nailed as much as urban plates. If you have not visited urban plates before for a nice dinner, then you are surely missing out on a one of a kind experience. read more

Have purchased takeout's and dinned-in 25+ times ( have some receipts as proof); Just a warning, that more than 3 occasions I had developed diarrhea after the meal within 1.5 hours. Based on my observation staff behind the counter uses their hands to pull most of the ingredients out of the metal bins and put on customer's plate ( example: all meat and poultry etc. ) + pulling out salad ingredients and mixing with hand. The staff wares disposable gloves but based on my observation some of the staff keeps same gloves on longer than others while touching drawer handles , surface wipe rag, maybe even the mop; that's why I suspect I get sick from their food sometimes. To my strong advice all ingredients should be served with a serving tong or spoons . I wonder which restaurant consulting experts in the industry conjured up using gloves to pull out ingredients in casual dining restaurants like Urban Plates, Chipotle, etc. but it is very unhealthy for the customer. read more

I love eating at Urban Plates because they have a variety of options that cater to all. Whether you have picky children or someone on a vegetarian/vegan diet- there is something for everyone! I noticed recently that they started a 'Chefs Special', which rotates with different items on the menu with a discounted price. Genius! My family and I love eating at Urban Plates not only because of the variety, but the quality, the ambiance, and the wonderful customer service. On our most recent visit Ashley helped us and was so kind and so patient while taking our order. (My family was a bit all over the place and there were a lot of us). We never felt rushed and she answered all of our questions about the menu. Our food came relatively fast and was delicious. First time here and everyone is so nice! Maria rang us up and helped us pick some delicious food! The beet salad is super delicious and we will absolutely be back for it again! Mashed potatoes are super smooth and also tasty! It's probably seasonal but the cantaloupe/pineapple/mango drink is delicious (and got a free refill)! Didn't realize till we sat down but we can also order a the table through their QR code! We went to the checkout counter to order and then sat to wait for food and it was a nice chill vibe! The decor is lovely lots of plants all around! They offer a membership option too which is awesome if you live nearby! It's like $5 a month and you get 20% off your purchases. Considering we spent $50 on all our delicious food it's def worth it! I've passed by a ton of time and never stopped in. I work up the street from this restaurant and I've always wanted to see what the hype was. I stepped into the restaurant and felt a little confused until the manager Kyle came to greet me. He went over the most popular items as well as some of his personal favorites. I went with one of his suggestions of the SeaBass with the pilaf rice and rosemary potatoes. The combination of the SeaBass, the hollandaise sauce, and the pilaf rice was the BEST and then the rosemary potatoes were a good filler. My food was brought out by Javier with some speed. He was very attentive and wanted to make sure I had everything that I needed for my meal. I had asked him for some extra hollandaise sauce for my SeaBass and he instantly came back. That's really hard to come by someone as hard working as Javier. This whole experience was so great I'm going to bring my family by next time! read more

Urban Plates was such a great place to get food to go during pandemic, and now it's continuing that great service, good food, and friendly customer service as we have begun dining in. We've always appreciated the patient way they take our orders, how they've offered us samples of their delicious aguas/iced teas and even freebie cookies at times! The iced teas are excellent and you can get refills, the cookie is also perfect, and our food is always prepared quickly and so delicious. We typically get the 3 or 4up, or the salads or the steak plate. Today we ordered the Quinoa/Beet bowl with shrimp and it was all made to perfection. The dressing was tasty. And our server Javier made the experience so pleasant. There's always plenty of seating and the counters, tables are kept clean. Oh, and you come here frequently the PASS is worth it! read more

We've been there quite a few times before (pasadena) and I really love their salmon! It's my fave out of the plates they have, altho the steak comes in close on 2nd place. Their sides are good especially the brussels sprouts. Their drinks (replenisher) are tasty and refreshing and the desserts are so good especially the banana cream pie. Today, we had a little reunion gathering and we stayed in the restaurant for quite a long time but everyone was nice. No one tried to make us leave or make us feel like we're on their way and another employee even helped take a group picture for us. Maria, the cashier who helped us was very nice and had a lovely, positive service and was very patient even when our group took awhile to decide their orders. I will never get tired of going to this Urban Plates coz their food and service are wonderful! read more
