OMG This restaurant is a must! Outerbanks NC Fantastic food for sure! Great Chef! We ordered Lamb meatballs with cucumbers and marinara. Cheese with a sweet fruity sauce to start. Chicken that was seasoned so good with potatoes and Asparagus. We also had Mahi fish that was cooked perfect. I know all the food served will be about your expectations. Dessert was a Key Lime item with coconut crumbles that I'm still thinking about! Full bar so Don't forget to ask for a Cherry Margarita. Service is over and above. Not a big place, so very nice personal feel. Thank you Joe and Jen for a perfect meal ! I will be dreaming of your food for days clear to Okla !

Excellent amazing tasting dishes, awesome and attentive staff, fun place to hang out. Recommend to all as a place to get away for a couple hours and be pampered.

Upscale, but casual small restaurant with exceptional food while still being family-friendly. We love the Outer Banks, but always somewhat dread the food scene since it tends to be overpriced and mediocre while also not being the most kid-friendly in the world. Urban Kitchen turned all of that on it's head. We got into our beach house about 2p, did a quick trip to the beach and then realized that we had to either get groceries and cook at home before bedtime or find someplace to eat out. We'd had our eyes on Urban Kitchen for a bit, but finally decided that we could really use the break from cooking and we'd try it out. We showed up 12 minutes before they opened (on Saturday night) and I'm glad we did. The hostess was tracking everyone that was out there and we were already the 6th party. When they did start seating people, we were either the last or 2nd-to-last group to be seated. They turned away several groups after us--so, lesson learned show up early. The crowd was there for a good reason. We had the porch chop, strip steak, flounder and my 5-year-old daughter had the chicken tenders. It was all fantastic. The best thing was probably my 8-year-old son's steak, which he got with the horseradish sauce on the side. He demolished 2/3 of a huge steak that was perfectly cooked medium to be pink on the inside and easy to eat, but still juicy. The horseradish sauce was also great, but we used it mostly as a dip for his fries. The arugula salad on the side (which I ate almost all of) was also great. My daughters chicken tenders and french fries, which they offered off the menu without being asked when they saw we had kids, were fantastic too. They were real, nice chicken breast filets with fantastic breading cooked to crispy goodness. The fries were lightly salted and herbed shoestring fries, but not over-cooked. The flounder came over wild rice topped with thinly sliced pears and carrots over a cauliflower purée. The fish was cooked beautifully with a nice crispy outer layer and the veggies on top and salty cauliflower brought things together. My wife said pork chop was probably the least exciting thing we got, but it was still quite good. To push things over the top, they saw that we were having a bit of trouble keeping the kids entertained while we waited for our food and brought us a bowl of crayons to draw on the butcher paper that they had on top of each table. The result was a great dining experience that everyone enjoyed. I didn't get a chance to check out the wine list, but the beer list was decent and had a lot of local beers and some nice national ones. Bells two-hearted ale (in cans) and Stone IPA (on tap) were two examples. I got a blackberry original sin cider that didn't disappoint.

We arrived around opening time. We are 2 families, a total of 9 people. We knew they didn't except big groups, so we went knowing that each family was going to sit separate. We waited at the door and once the host came out, we told her we wanted to sit separate from each other so we could dine. Her face quickly changed, and she said she doesn't split groups. She was adamant that since we came together she wasn't going to seat us. I thought this was ridiculous. You mean to tell me that if one family came 5 minutes after the other one you wouldn't sit them just because they know people that are dining inside? Her demeanor was rude even though we were calm. She said we couldn't eat there and walked back in.

Visiting the area and were looking for a nice date spot for dinner. Found the location on yelp, and decided to try. So glad we did. The service was friendly, the food was delicious and very well priced. we got the gem salad with green goddess dressing(yum) the potatoes bravas with tzatziki, chilled veggies and fries. Everything was so good. We would definitely come back. The place is very small, so heads up on that. They do not take reservations.

Hire someone with knowledge of how to treat customers because the guy standing in front of your restaurant turned us away @7:30 and said they were done for the night. We called ahead and their message says check the website which we did.... Stated they were open today and their hours sat open until 9:00. Wasted 40 minute drive from the 4x4 area to have dinner for my husbands birthday. Explained that to the guy at the door and he essentially called me a liar when I told him that we were disappointed. If they didn't want to serve dinner in their restaurant he could have offered us to take out. Just a complete jerk. Totally unfortunate.

Tonight was our third visit to Urban Kitchen (2x on this vacation!) and it continues to live up to the hype - we live in the NY area and are lucky enough to have a number of really great restaurants by us but Urban Kitchen really stands out as one of the best. On our first visit this week our group enjoyed the peach and yogurt appetizer, the Buffalo mozzarella and tomato app and the crab toast app - they were all incredible...the crab stands out to me as one of the best dishes. Really just delicious - highly recommend this appetizer (and the others). For our entrees on the first visit, two of us had the steak and loved it - and I have to say, the fries were probably the best I've ever had...another had the pork dish, another had the salmon and another had the chicken ... everyone loved them. We had a few deserts on our first visit and enjoyed those as well (honestly don't know how we had room for anything but they were wonderful so we forged on)! Tonight we went with a smaller group and had to have the crab toast again (it's epic) but my husband wanted to try something new so we also shared the gem salad with green goddess dressing - one of the best salads we've ever enjoyed. For entrees, I had to have the steak again - amazing! Still the best fries and I love the horseradish sauce - great flavor but not overpowering like it often is IMO. My husband had the pork and LOVED every bite - really an outstanding dish...the peaches (in season now) with it were incredible. And our son enjoyed the veggie dish - each veggie was prepared differently and each was perfect... Overall just a great dinner and we will for sure continue to come back every time we are in the area - this is a world class restaurant

OMG. The food was delicious. I had the chicken. It was juicy, cooked perfectly and well seasoned. I also had the lemon poppyseed cake for dessert. It was so yummy. Others in our group had the scallops appetizer, the tomato watermelon salad, pork chops, and fresh fish. Everyone raved about their dinners and the gelato. Great restaurant, will definitely go again. Best meal I've had in OBX! read more

Great place! Get there early. Love the vibe. Waitstaff was attentive and knowledgable. We ordered Swordfish, the special (barrel fish), fried green tomatoes, calimari (sauteed), and some wine. Everything was fantastic. For 2 appetizers, 5 entrees and a bottle of wine, total bill was about $240 for 5 people. read more

Our family had an awesome dinner at the Urban Kichen tonight! Between the 8 of us, we tried all the entrees available on the menu and every one of them was delicious! Even my vegan daughter had a beautiful, yummy meal made especially for her! We'd definitely eat there again and would recommend everything the chefs create! Really great meal! read more

My boyfriend and I live right outside of Philadelphia and are avid food lovers. We love to go out to eat and try new places. While on vacation in Corolla we decided to come here for dinner our last night. The food was FANTASTIC and the staff was super friendly. This place gets really busy and even with a full house our waitress, Ulta, was calm and kind. The food was beyond words we had the pepper appetizer and the sauce it came with was worth bathing in. The swordfish was fresh and the steak perfectly cooked. I highly recommend the pineapple cheesecake. The "country chic" vibe is well done and tasteful. Make sure to get here alittle early seating is limited they open at 5 for dinner and we came at 4:45 to beat the rush. All in all next time we are in the Obx we will be sure to make a stop here. read more

My boyfriend and I were in Corolla to close up the family house for the winter season. We went to Urban Kitchen for dinner the weekend following Thanksgiving and sat down immediately. The pork shanks were in a buffalo type sauce and were amazing, then I had the salmon, which was one of the best I've ever had. The top was slightly crisp from the grill, and it was not dry at all. Service was great too as our waitress was very friendly & attentive. It's a small place that used to be a sandwich shop. The bar only seated 5 people. We will definitely go back the next time we are in town! read more

What a wonderful dining experience. Once you step inside you'll feel like you've been transported to one of the top foodie destinations. Our waitress was not only well informed of the menu but she seemed to truly enjoy describing each dish. We started with the crawfish sausage and the pork shank. I'm not much of a pork eater but the men we were with said it was amazing. I loved the blue cheese slaw that came with it. The crawfish sausage, out of this world! The dinner plates equally pleasing. I strongly recommend Urban Kitchen. It's far from the wedge salad and fried seafood platters we've come to expect when eating out in the OBX area. read more

Food was the best in OBX! This is definitely a hidden gem. The restaurant is small & intimate. However, they accommodated so nicely for our large family of 7 (5 kids). The dinner takes a while to make but worth the wait!! DELICIOUS!!! The entire staff is very sweet as well. Found this little gem on spring break. May have been the best meal we have had on the outer banks. The potato soup was exceptional, the bits of asparagus were bursting with flavor. We each had a different main course ( steak, chicken, pork and veggie plate ) all of them were excellent. Will definitely be back. read more

NOT family-friendly! My family of 9 (6 adults, 1 6-year old and 2 9-mo old babies) waited all week to celebrate our last night together at Urban Kitchen. It was to be the highlight of our vacation dining experience! My husband and I make it a point to dine there every summer during our vacation. Being aware that Urban Kitchen does not accept reservations, and having seen a "child-friendly" review of the restaurant, we arrived shortly after 5pm, when it opens. There were plenty of empty tables. When I announced the size of my party, I was promptly told their limit is 8, that they've "tried it before" and they would "absolutely not" make exceptions. I offered to split us up so that we were separate parties -- NOPE! I have not seen anything in writing about this policy and believe that we were discriminated against because of the children -- which is why we arrived early! Our family is most respectful of others. Although our children/grandchildren are usually well-behaved, we do not hesitate to immediately remove a misbehaving or crying child from the restaurant immediately. We have dined at Kimball's Kitchen with no incident and at home in Washington, DC have frequented Plume at the Jefferson Hotel as well as other well-known upscale restaurants. SHAME on URBAN KITCHEN!!! read more

Fantastic, charming, little, two-month old restaurant in Corolla with extremely friendly staff and a limited but thoroughly enjoyable menu. Don't miss it. Update: Returned on a Friday night to a packed restaurant, and lines of people waiting to a table despite being in the off-season. The food was fantastic and the co-owner and staff welcomed us as if we were family. read more

Second visit tonight to urban kitchen and even better than the first one, great staff both times and the menu changed and all four of us loved our meals. Fantastic watermelon and tomato salad, great cold soup, tuna, crab cake appetizer, pork shank appetizer and a deconstructed s'more for grown ups! Good drinks...yum! Not a place for large groups or kids as service takes time from the two chefs in the open kitchen. Love the repurposed surroundings. My new favorite place in Corolla! Don't tell anyone. read more

Surprisingly urban feel for the OBX. Excellent food, intimate restaurant, and unmemorable service. If you're looking for something a little more cosmopolitan than your standard fish and fried seafood, you should come here. It's a little pricey for the area but well worth it amidst the other available options. read more

What a treat to find actual good food in a resort town. This place was great. Tiny and only a few tables so prepare for a wait. We lucked out and nabbed bar seats. Decent drink selection. Good was great - we had the horseradish strip steak and pork chop. Both prefectly cooked and seasoned. Bartender was friendly and suggested drinks, let us sample wines, etc. We'll definitely go back here next year when we go to OBX. We left our 11 month old home with the grandparents that night, glad we did. This place is def. more of an adult spot, not to mention too small to subject the table next to you to your crying kid. read more

We have a vacation home in Pine Island and this is our absolute favorite restaurant in the Outer Banks. The owners are a truly awesome couple with one being the head chef and the other running the bar and front of the house. Be forewarned- or rather encouraged- that if you want to get in (even as a table of 2) on a Friday or Saturday, you should plan on getting in early around 5:30 because the restaurant is small (only around 20-30 seats). It is WORTH THE WAIT. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, but if you need a recommendation for an app, go with the Pork Shanks- they do it as a play off of buffalo wings with their house sauce and then a blue cheese Cole slaw. This dish may be the most memorable dish I had in all of 2015- the playfulness and creativity of this place is just awesome. Love love love it! read more

We will definitely be coming back here. Don't be scared off by the location in a strip mall. My husband is a very picky eater and he almost wanted to leave because the menu was small. Thank goodness we didn't. I had the salmon and he had the strip steak. He is a steal snob and has eaten every type of expensive steak. He said this was the best New York strip he has ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed my salmon and the tomato soup was amazing. read more

We eat here every time we come to the Outer Banks and it's excellent every time - the service is outstanding also. The food is fresh and impeccably seasoned - all freshly prepared. I had the Strip Steak - it was huge and perfectly cooked to my order (medium). My wife had the Scottish Salmon - also fresh an favorable. Cheese cake was amazing!! HIGHLY recommend you eat here!! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner there over the Thanksgiving holiday. You must try the oyster starter with grits & country ham! The Bibb salad was great and enough to share. Our table enjoyed the salmon dish, ny strip & the flounder fish special. Our waitress was great! The place is small and busy so get there early! We were very happy! Love the atmosphere & farm to table offerings. Don't let the strip mall location throw you off! read more

Stopped in here with my family for dinner. We love good locally sourced food and are frequent patrons of a similar restaurant in our hometown. Asked about gluten free options for one of my children and was immediately turned away. She didn't even pause to consider. Their menu clearly has several items that could be made into a gluten free meal if they cared enough to try. We would have appreciated at least a thoughtful discussion. read more

Don't let the outside stop you from trying! It's amazing! Deep Eddy grapefruit fizz -- yum!! Cucumber Crab soup - OMG! Salmon - cooked perfectly and not overly seasoned or covered in sauce! The strip steak was seasoned well, but also not overly seasoned. Very happy with the Urban kitchen. read more

What a great find! We love the hip rustic vibe in a very unsuspecting strip mall. The menu is simple which I like. Not too many choices. We started with the shishito peppers. They were amazing! Then we ordered the halloumi cheese. At this point I was totally in love! The pork shank was next. This one was my least favorite. Not because there was anything wrong with it but because there were too many strong competing flavors. My husband still really enjoyed it. Since we had three of the starters we decided to share a salad and entree. The salad was bib lettuce with a home made green goddess dressing that was wonderful with a touch of anchovy. I couldn't give the full five stars because the entree wasn't impressive. The strip steak which we ordered medium rare was very tough and lacked anything special. The French fries were very very good which is all I ate because the steak just turned me off. We will go back. It was really good. Just might stay away from the entrees and stick to the small plates. read more

I would not recommend the fried cauliflower as it was very bland with some chili sauce splashed over top. The scallops were very well prepared however. NC Coast is a nice spot for a special meal, especially with the view. Just hope the service is more consistent with other guests.

We are food snobs from NYC. Urban kitchen is equal or better than most restaurants we dine at in NYC. We shared the tomato and watermelon salad which contained the freshest melon and tomatoes we have had at a restaurant. We wish we could have fresh produce like that up north. I had the catch prepared with field peas which was outstanding. My companion had the Veggie dinner which was a "surprise" platter of vegetables and grains prepared by the chef. Beautifully presented and exceedingly delicious. The service was efficient and friendly . Once you get past the strip center exterior, the interior is intimate cozy and welcoming. We have been coming to OBX since 1986 and this is now our favorite restaurant. read more

My husband and I had never been to OBX and accidentally arrived during the great Nor'easter and Hurricane Joaquin. At the recommendation from the volunteers at the lighthouse in Corolla we walked in to Urban Kitchen and were seated immediately. The place is quaint and trendy. The staff was very hospitable. The food was unique and the best food we ate in the OBX!!! We tried other restaurants the rest of he trip but remarked we should have returned nightly to Urban Kitchen. We sat next to two women from PA and talked for hours. Hands down the most unique location (no ocean view in a strip mall) to place the best restaurant! We're visiting on vacation in Corolla and had a date night out with my wife. We started with a few drinks and enjoyed the pork shanks appetizer. The pork was delicate and seasoned perfectly. For our main dishes I ordered a pork chop and my wife ordered the special. .. seared rockfish. Both were fantastic and. Atmosphere was understated, simple and dressed down. We visited the Urban Kitchen last night and it was outstanding. Great atmosphere, food and service. The staff are extremely friendly and accomodating and the food was top shelf but without the attitude of other restaurants in its league. I had soft shells crabs and my wife had the fish special. Small quaint restaurant that we found by accident. It was only place still open at 8 pm on a rainy Thursday on the off season. I must say, I was super impressed. Friendly staff, cozy location, they were good with making appropriate food for the kids. I had the pork shank and it was fantastic! I will definitely visit again. What a find! Small place located in the Corolla shopping center with Harris Teeter. Had to wait 15 minutes for our table but it was well worth the wait. Very nice and quiet atmosphere. Had the ceviche as an app and it was excellent. Wife had steak cooked perfect and I had the Pork chop which was one of the best chops Ive ever had. Bring your date here, not kids.
