With the upside of low stress and less formality around registration, slightly disorganized start corral, etc. A little pricey at $75 for 12K on the day of. About 2,400 runners, so way more sane than Bay to Breakers. The other B2B is more competitive and more fun, but you can't beat the course and Marina Green is 15 degrees warmer than the OB end of Golden Gate Park, which makes for a more enjoyable post-race scene for runners.

Decided to do the sf original run series which includes 4 iconic runs of SF…read moreBay to breakers SF marathon The giants race and lastly Glide bridge to Bridge Relatively nice run by the Embarcadero to fisherman's wharf and aquatic park, then go up hill towards fort mason and then down hill all the way to Crissy field Marina to the finish line for the 5k run. The expo and after race concert are there too. PROS I liked this run, great views and scenery. The Glide booth had tons of giveaways. The lady there was piling the floss pick into my bag, there were also notepads, tee shirts and earphones. Also had my photo taken by Glide and photo can be seen online. Picked up my signed poster from the artist of the poster for the run at the Dignity health booth. Was happy to pick up my SF series medal and tee shirt at the booths. Shuttles were announced clearly for the return to downtown. The race started at 9 and the weather was way too hot to run. Would prefer an earlier start time like 8 or 8.30am to avoid the heat. CONS Wish they had some mile markers along the way, so i can pace myself and give it my all at the last mile but I did not know when that was, because there was no signage. Unlike other runs, there weren't a lot of food. I managed to get a protein milkshake, water, banana, tangerine and nuts. I guess it's better than nothing. Was disappointed not to get a medal for this run. Would have been nice to have the SF series medal as a bonus for doing all four, as well as a medal for the bridge to bridge run...disappointed. Even though bridge to bridge, it's not literally, because the race ends on the marina but you do get to see both the Bay bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. The material of the tee was cotton, not the same dri fit material of previous races. Overall, a great run to end the SF series. But should give out finishers medal anyway.

This was my first Turkey Trail Trot and it was a pretty decent run. It was a mostly flat course…read moreover natural terrain, including grassy meadows and dirt pathways/trails, which was nice on the knees! I guess in the past years, parts or all of the run was on Ocean Beach, but the course has been moved to more solid ground in GGP. And thank goodness for that, running on the beach? No thank you! Anyway, I liked the course because it was pretty scenic and took you through some nicely hidden GGP trails that I would have never know of had I not done this race. Registration was closed after 1200 trotters have signed up, which is great so there's hardly a crowd you need to push past. A ton of people come dressed in festive turkey day garb, making for some very nice distractions. They've also got a lot of volunteers to guide you through the course and cheer you on. Although, at Mile 1, one of the volunteers, while I totally appreciate the support, cheered us on as we passed by yelling "you can do it, you're almost there!!" Uuummm, are you kidding me girl? Depending on whether we were doing the 3 or 5 miler, we had 2/4 more miles to go, not even halfway! DO NOT TEASE ME!! Speaking of the different races, my bf and I had done the 3 miler and when checking the results, I was thoroughly surprised when I saw that I was 38th out of 240 trotters. I then looked back on the home page and the 3 miler was actually supposed to be a walk, while the 5 miler was for actual runners. Haha, if everyone was walking, how the hell did I manage to come out 38th?! Overall, great run to do and a fantastic way to get some exercise on Thanksgiving Day before gorging on all the delicious turkey food you know you'll be chowing down on later in the day.

Woah, what a great course! Yes, this course is described as ''Sadistic'' but I didn't get the pet…read morename ''Crazy Runner girl'' for nothing! This Run did the infamous Dipsea Trail TWICE - Out and then back where your were running head on to others runners on a single trail, it was indeed a true test of my patience as you have no choice but go with the flow and for the most part that means only running as fast as the person in front of you. Stats: -4,500ft elevation - On the event listing stated 13.7 mile course, my Run tracker registered 14.22 (Many other peole I spoke to also got very similar distance between 14.10 and 14.25) - 441 flights of stairs as measured by my FitBit This event started wuth various "handicaps" with older and slower tunners leaving first and a new group starting off every 2-4 minutes. This is not a course you do to get a good finish time, I was prepared for this but what I was not prepared for was how backed up the first 5-6 miles would be. Pretty much all uphill this was my dream part of the course and uphill running being something I excel at but I couldn't Run the speed I wanted to because I was stuck behind other runners that are not as fast as me.. I was warned before sign up and the pre race email though. The course was indeed VERY narrow for the most part and making passing people almost impossible in some parts but you got to know the people around you pretty well and the view from the top of the peak was amazing! The volunteers and aid stations were great! Everyone was very encouraging and each aid station was filled with goodies in true Brazen style - Water, electrolite drink, candies, chips, pretzels, fruit and of course Aid...basically everything you needed. Post race was one big party and re-feed with all the same food plus Bagels and treat Brazen is well known for - It's It Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches. This is one thing I actually partook in for the first time of any Brazen event, I totally earned it! The goodies bags, Tech shirt, medal and transfer are pretty sweet too. Personal: So happy to have knocked this off of my bucket list! Yes, I did have quite a spectacular wipeout 5 miles from the finish line where on some downhill steps I tripped, twisted my Ankle and landed on where I then proceeded to slide down another step (must have looked hilarious to the guy behind me) it meaning I had to limp cursing my way to the Finish (I'm no quitter!) But call me insane... I would also love to run this event again! - Crazy Runner Girl

Such a special event. It truly brings out the best of SF culture. The creativity is different…read morelevel. The costumes are the tip of the iceberg--a Bad Bunny Super Bowl recreation, piñata people with bats to hit and get candy, a massive black ball of trash bags that you roll down the Hayes hill. Tortillas flying over your head while the anticipation of the race builds. Amazing community cheering you on throughout the race. A Super Mario station set up in the Height, a car wash station you run through, beer bongs hanging from windows in the Hayes, trampolines and water guns, music blasting everywhere, a rainbow from Playa in GGP, and the most beautiful art pieces scattered throughout GGP. This is truly the best way to tour SF. And if you can't run the whole way, don't worry. So many people are simply walking and having fun. Very child friendly. A special experience for the whole family. A must for every San Franciscan.

Read all my other reviews first, because they accurately represent what Bay to Breakers meant to me…read morein my late twenties and through my mid-thirties. But a funny thing happened about fourteen years ago. My parents happened to be in town on the weekend of Bay to Breakers. They were babysitting my then very young nephew and niece, and I had to explain to them that we either had to go to church at six p.m. or go to a different church altogether--which we ended up doing--because Bay to Breakers would make parking at St. Agnes annoying, if not impossible. So that morning, for the first time since the noise of Bay to Breakers drew me downstairs at some godawful time on a Sunday morning in 2004, I actually pre-planned and parked my car on the opposite side of the course so that I could easily drive it to my brother's house to meet up with my parents. When I returned much later that night, there wasn't too much physical evidence that Bay to Breakers had even occurred, although there were people dressed in costume remnants milling around Divis. And that's when it came to me. I used to love Bay to Breakers. I still love the Bay to Breakers experiences I experienced, even in the rain, even as it got less and less fun and I knew fewer and fewer people. But I had either outgrown Bay to Breakers, as in I was now too old to enjoy it properly, or time had actually made Bay to Breakers worse, as in if I had been in my mid-twenties in 2012, I wouldn't like it, because it just wasn't as fun and weird and strange as it had been circa 2004 through 2009. So rather than rely on chance to miss Bay to Breakers, I would plan out-of-town things for that day each year. That was my solution to both ignoring Bay to Breakers, not being annoyed by Bay to Breakers, and having massive, total-system FOMO from missing out on the entirety of Bay to Breakers each year. And I did it. Mostly. Even when I didn't live here. I planned these things in SoCal or the Midwest or near Monterey Bay. And even though I sometimes arrived home in time to see the dregs of B2B all over my neighborhood's streets, bushes, Panhandles, and front stoops, I had somehow convinced myself that I had just missed it--there was nothing to be done. It has worked out pretty well, and I've discovered all kinds of places because of it. I needed those first eight years or so to understand my (then) new corner, neighborhood, and city. I've needed the years since then to be one of the locals who plans to be out of town on the third Sunday of May. One day, I might stick around. I'll sleep right through everything and not really notice (much easier now, because of how my Sunday evening routine has changed geographically) that it even was B2B. Or maybe I'll go downstairs and ponder the wonder of these poor drunk kids and formerly drunk adults and people too old to be walking around naked--because I can tell you that most of the people in SF these days who walk around naked are too old to be walking around naked--and it won't make me feel sad or left out or wistful or nostalgic or even annoyed by all the metal barricades piled up and having to remember to check whether where I parked my car has temporary no-parking signs. Who am I kidding?
