Hostels are often for young backpackers, but this downtown building in the center of Old Uppsala…read morewas opened in April, 2013 so everything is new and fresh. They have private rooms including singles and doubles, as well as larger rooms, so except for no private bathroom and shower they are very nice. And the bathrooms are single and the showers are single and just a couple of feet across the hall from your room, so this is not a group shower experience! There is an elevator, and a reception desk, and bedding and towels provided. Breakfast is $10 which is reasonable, but we walked to a Kondotori for coffee and pastries instead. The Castle is just above you, the beautiful brick cathedral is a block away, the shopping street is two blocks away. Nice restaurants along the river. Only parking is a problem, as from 8am to 6pm you have to pay even on the street. So it was free overnight but in the morning I had to start feeding the meter! But this is the nicest newest Hostel you will ever meet and even married people like us were very happy with the room and its price. Wi-Fi free. Uppsala is a wonderful Medieval town. The Gustavium museum across from the cathedral is worth the small admission price. Discounts for over 65 or under 18. All non-smoking, Hurray!

A must stay if you're an aviation geek like me…read more As a child, 747s had just come on the scene and took the public imagination instantly with its gargantuan size and instantly recognizable hump. I spent decades revering this icon of global travel to exotic destinations. Rode it for many years when in college and as a young adult. And now I get to come up close to one just as this queen of the skies is getting retired from most flagship airlines in favor of 2 engined planes. Very clever use of space with strong homage to key areas of the aircraft. I originally booked an engine nacelle room. But am grateful the receptionist offered to place me in the main cabin for several reasons--proximity to toilet-showers, noise insulation (from aircraft taxiing nearby), and the alarming wobble each time someone walks the wing overhead! Breakfast begins at 3am. An easy terminal shuttle bus (P3 Alfa) runs 4 times an hour for much of the day and night. No shoes inside the hostel--bring flip flops to use around and un bathrooms.

Getting to and from any terminal at the airport is quick with the free shuttle. I definitely would only stay before an early flight or after a late arrival: no reason to stay this far out more than one night. It is important to expect a hostel experience, such as shared showers. I stayed in one of the engines. Other than the constant hum of the nearby airport, it was quiet and comfortable. The employees were very friendly. Breakfast was a simple continental spread, starting at 3am to accommodate even the craziest flights. I thought it was a bit odd that the snow hadn't been cleared at all for me to get from the main area to my engine...luckily it was less than 2 inches, I hope they'd clear it if there was more...

Touted as a "posh hostel," I expected much more. I guess that's what I get for trying to be cheap,…read moreas I only paid $130 for 4 nights. The lobby area was cute, with a nice area to sit and chill by the window. However, the room (I chose the 4 female only option) was kind of bare bones with 2 bunk beds, small 1 seater couch seat, lockers (need to bring your own lock) and a large window. Also, during check in, I had to pay 35 SEK for sheets (one time fee, but still). On top of that, towels were 30 SEK and I couldn't even get 1 the first night because I returned after hours, which was quite early at 8PM. I was pretty upset about that. I've stayed in hostels all throughout Europe and NEVER had to pay for sheets and / or towel, but I later learned this is common in Scandinavia. Location is very central and in the city center. It is walking distance from the train station, shops, bakeries for Fika, restaurants, the park near Royal Palace, Gamla Stan (old town), along with T-Central (and others) metro station. The hostel uses a code system for access to the courtyard to get to the rooms (which changes each day), the room itself, as well as for night entrance. All the codes are listed on a small piece of paper, and is attached to a map of the space. Before entering the main area where all the rooms were, there was a place to put shoes, which I didn't mind doing. One morning I put my boots down for a few seconds and when I got back, they were not in the same spot I left them. The staff was great about this though, as they checked the cameras and located my boots. After that I didn't trust leaving them there and carried them to the room. There was a downstairs common area, which includes a kitchen with free pasta (have to bring your own sauce though), cozy hang out area, and showers. I went down here with one of my roommates and quickly made friends. I ended up chilling here after exploring the city for 2 nights in a row, just chatting with fellow travelers. Definitely a great place to socialize! After around 11PM, we were asked in a very gentle way to keep the noise level to a minimum, which I thought was a considerate gesture for other guests. The place offers a breakfast, which costs 95 SEK. This consists of a berry smoothie (or orange juice) and ham with cheese panini (or mozzarella with tomato), which was pretty tasty. I think it should have also came with coffee. The folks working here were nice and friendly. They even have a way to chat with them after hours on WhatsApp, even though they couldn't help me with the towel situation since I hadn't paid for one. Overall, these were decent accommodations, at an awesome price point, but some improvements can definitely be made.

The rooms are fairly nice, I was in a huge dorm with many beds (I think 12 total) and it was a fairly good experience. There were many other solo travelers my age so it was really easy to meet people and everyone was so friendly. The hostel was very clean which is what I liked most. It is required that you take your shoes off when inside, which helped with the cleanliness and I really respected. The kitchen is also really large for a hostel which was nice to be able to buy groceries and come back to cook them. Overall I had a great experience here, my favorite hostel out of the 6 I stayed at across Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Would definitely return when in Stockholm again

This was actually a pretty nice hostel in Stockholm, Sweden. This was our first experience with a…read morehostel, and it was very pleasant. Our location featured Private hostel rooms with Shared showers/bathrooms. The rooms were a decent size. They comfortably accommodated my mom and I. The shared living spaces were well maintained and cared for. The restrooms and showers were divided by sex. They felt safe and were not crowded. The hostel also featured a Nice kitchen and lounge area. For an introduction to hostels, this was a good buffer between them and a motel/budget hotel. I would honestly recommend this if you don't mind the shared spaces. It was definitely the more price savvy option!

WARNING! If you can't be bothered to read my diatribes about Skanstull's Hostel, you need to know…read morethat this place has bedbugs and most of the staff does not care. Vägglöss! Staying at Skanstull's Hostel was the worst travel experience of my life. I checked in on March 31st 2026. I stayed here for four nights and originally planned on staying longer, but I had to cut my trip short due to finding bedbugs on my futon in Room 43. In addition, I got bed bug bites after sleeping in my room. I booked it through booking.com, but I can't write a review there because my stay was technically cancelled. That's why I'm writing my review for this place on Yelp. I have provided pictures of my room and a screenshot of my refund from booking.com as proof that I have stayed at this hostel. When I informed staff that there were bedbugs in my room, the way that the staff responded to this issue (aside from the hostel owner Per) was horrendous. The front desk staff kept invalidating my concerns about having bedbugs and told me to brush it off. They kept refusing to give me a complete refund, despite that the room did not meet bare minimum standards for habitability in Stockholm. The middle manager even stated that he felt that bedbugs were not his responsibility to treat because other people bring them in. He compared bringing bedbugs home to getting the flu and said treating bedbugs at the hostel wasn't his responsibility. This is not compliant with Swedish hygiene regulations, which requires staff to treat bedbugs when found. The middle manager was also quite condescending towards me because of my nationality (American) - repeatedly stating that "bedbugs are normal in Europe". He also accused me of lying and said whatever he could in an effort to deflect responsibility. My initial request for a full refund was rejected and I was only offered a tiny 108 KR. The cleaner also lied to me and claimed that no one had stayed in the room before in an effort to shift the blame on to me, whereas the owner confirmed to me that someone had previously stayed in the room. The following day, I went to the front desk staff and was insistent that I wanted a full refund. Even the cleaner got defensive and told me that I should just brush it off. The staff basically thought that I should pay to be bit by bedbugs. The way that most of the staff reacted with such extreme defensiveness and hostility makes me wonder if they were already aware of an underlying bedbug issue. The middle manager told me that the hostel had dealt with bedbugs in the past (1-2 years ago). I suspect that my experience may have been the result of an ongoing issue, given that several staff members knew there was a past bedbug problem and feel that bedbugs aren't their responsibility to treat. Despite that Swedish hygiene regulations for hostels clearly state otherwise. It was not until I escalated and talked to the owner Per that I was finally offered a complete refund and an alternate place to stay. No effort was initially made by other staff to address the situation. The owner Per also told the front desk staff to cancel all reservations for Room 43 until it is treated, which the front desk staff was not originally planning on doing. I am grateful for the owner's response in this situation, as it heavily contrasts how I had been treated by other hostel staff. He did the bare minimum that any hotel employee should do. Due to this situation, I returned home to the U.S. earlier than expected and had to throw out nearly all of my luggage. I lost much of my wardrobe because I did not want to risk bringing an infestation into my apartment. For those who are not American and happen to be reading this review, something important to understand is that bedbugs are extremely taboo in my culture. If an American brings back bedbugs from their vacation and their apartment develops an infestation, their landlord can evict them and they can become homeless as a result. This is something that's very common in America. For us, encountering bedbugs is very frightening. I understand that some cultures don't take bedbugs as seriously, but I wish that other staff had at least been respectful and taken some degree of responsibility. It is worth mentioning that myself and another girl staying at the hostel also experienced sexual harassment on behalf of a man staying at the hostel. This is not the owners' fault, but I do think it gives some insight into the sorts of people who stay at this hostel. Due to the behavior of this guest, my friend feels scared to leave the hostel or walk around the common rooms without her boyfriend.
