Well, the weather was very here and there, and the brand new Mr and Mrs P were certainly vigilant when it came to the British climate... August is an unruly month and popping their ceremony in a deliciously decorated room meant everybody was safe. Let me start by getting personal. If anybody is woman-problem squeamish, you might want to look away now, but really, it's not all that bad. You might as well know that when I arrived at this very pretty location, I'd left somewhat essential girl items back at my hotel. Instantly, I panicked. It's no fun being THAT girl at ANY party, as Carrie found out the hard way. My prayers were close to being answered with the machine in the bathroom, but when that was revealed to be empty, I almost cried. Thankfully, long story short, a very understanding female member of bar staff took me into the kitchens and stuffed my handbag full of freebies. Amen to sisterhood. "They were in First Aid?" the brunette quipped when I recounted the story over the phone. "How grim." Indeed. Still, free is free. Anyway, girl-emergency evaded. You can see why Batch Farm is such a popular wedding venue, one look at the website will tell you what they're capable of in terms of highlighting your big day and relatives of the bride and groom who were staying in the hotel itself assured me the accommodation was thoroughly deserving of its four stars. The bar staff were friendly, the venue was pretty spectacular (especially the main room which they'd decked out with canopies and lights like a marquee) and the food was very tasty. The only qualms I had were personal - the creamy lemony sauce that came with the salmon fillet was so sharp and rich it was almost overpowering, and I found a few bones which is a real pet peeve of mine... plus I've never understood that when these places get redecorated and renovated, the swirly, dated carpets remain. It adds far too much of a social club/service station vibe to a luxury environment. But again, the staff were soldiers that day, incredibly tolerant at the end of the night too when swaying guests were slurring about grabbing taxis. Congrats to the happy couple - and I'd certainly recommend this place for a wedding. The grounds especially are exceptionally gorgeous.

Room is super nice - I upgraded to a Premier Plus room: sea view, larger room with desk and armchair and footstool, good bathroom with toiietries. coffee machine with pods. idn't eat at their restaurant, but breakfast looks good . DNot a super sophisticated place (but then Weston isn't): lots of families. I' ve stayed in older, more classic hotels here - and had breakfast - and this is much better value for money. Am fast becoming a bit of a Premier Inn devotee, especially of their Premier Plus rooms. As hotels chains go, PI is a really excellent and reliable product. Highly recommended.

I have seen some disparaging comments on bookings.com, but I cannot see how any of them are…read morejustified. I'd like to respond to a few: 1. Lack of choice on the menu The menu changed every night, and there was also on the facing page a choice of standard items that were there everyday. Invariably on the changing menu there were a choice of three starters, three main, and three sweets. I think that is reasonable, given there are other choices too, which, as I say, does stay the same. 2. Children's menu was more expensive than the adults' menu I can't say that I found that to be the case, and the hotel were prepared, with some adult dishes, to do half portions, at half the adult price. 3. Never any towels in the pool area Whilst I was there they were constantly being replenished. I can only think it must have been a busy time. However, we were told towels were available, and what would it matter to ask for one before entering the pool? 4. The breakfast buffet was quite meagre Not whilst I was there. Plenty of choices of cereal, various fruit juices: tomato, cranberry, grapefruit, orange, and apple. Also, a selection of fruit cocktails: melon, grapefruit slices; I could go on. The hot breakfast had a tremendous choice. Most days I had the Traditional Breakfast, but on the last I had scrambled egg, done as I like it, and as I requested, with smoked salmon, which didn't appear to be farmed salmon. My wife came across the place by chance as our hotel booking was for the one next door. See a separate review for The Ormonde House Hotel. We stayed three nights. The children loved the pool. We had two double rooms. There are family rooms, but we were an extremely late booking. We were given an exceptionally low rate for the first night for the two rooms, and an equally good rate for the separate rooms for the other two nights. Given that we had walked out of the other hotel, I think we were extremely lucky to get any rooms, as nothing was showing up on the Internet, for what we wanted. The staff were very friendly, and some good-humoured banter. The host, Charles, was exceptionally good at making one feel welcome. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. I agree with another reviewer on bookings.com: I will always use this hotel on future trips to Weston. I had one moment where I mentioned that I didn't like the roast potatoes. I still think, although cooked properly, are left to go cold and are then reheated. Nevertheless, Charles was on the case, and apologised if I was unhappy. When I came to my sweet, I ordered a dessert wine, but they were out of stock. However, Charles offered me another dessert wine (a more expensive one) by the glass, and full to the brim in a large wine glass. This was by way of an apology for the potatoes. How can you fault that service? I can certainly recommend the house wines both the white and the red: Sauvingnon Blanc, and a South African Shiraz. I think that the wine list is pretty inclusive, and at a price I have to pay in other restaurants. Charles likes his wines too, and serves them at the right temperature. If I wanted to be really picky, I would have preferred other brandies. Although I do like Courvoisier, I actually really like Hennessy or a Bas Armagnac. They have recently decroated the lounge, and dining areas, which looks very good. The rooms we stayed in were OK, but they are due to be refurbished according to Charles. I have to say wallpaper is not a good idea for a bathrooom. The bathrooms were roomy, and had a bath with a shower over with a curtain. There was no smell on the curtain; as I have found with some other upmarket hotels. The shower had a good pressure, and I was more than happy with the facilities. Did the children enjoy their holiday? Yes they did, and a good hotel makes all the difference.

These hotel come spa dealio seem to be all the rage at the moment…read more This one, slightly outside of Bristol central, though a 3* rated hotel, is actually nicer then some 4* I've seen it, to be confusing though, I do still give it 3* rather than 4 in my review rating! Points for picturesque views and being well situated for the Cheddar Caves and Mendip Hills are gained. And the in house restaurant isn't too bad either. Prices from £65 per night for an ensuite double including breakfast could be worse and at least they have plenty of free car parking available.

There is also a large number of tables and chairs outside. It was difficult to choose from the excellent large menu and there is a great choice for vegetarians too. There are plenty of 'roasts and classics', omelettes, burgers, 'fry-ups', wraps, sandwiches, panini, bagels, salads and delicious desserts (can recommend the lovely cheesecake and ice cream!) There's also a 'kids' menu'. Plenty of good coffees (including liqueur) and teas too, plus soft drinks of course. There's a wide screen TV on the wall which no one was watching but I'm sure is nice to have at times. The toilets were a bit of a 'let down' because they were shabby and needed updating. The disabled toilet is inside the Ladies Toilet which could be a bit confusing. A wonderful waitress served us. She was a foreign lady - European but don't know exactly where from (wish I'd asked her name) - and she could not have been nicer or more helpful; the kind of courtesy and friendliness which you get in so few places these days in the UK.

As soon as I put the phone down, I spotted a bargain break to the Royal Hotel - and was pretty sure she'd never been to Weston, so thought it was a great birthday present for her. We kept it as a surprise and were joking about taking her glamping for the weekend. She knew full well that wasn't our style, but when we walked into the hotel, she was rather overwhelmed with what a lovely place it was. And that was before we showed her the room we'd got - a four poster bed with seaview which was lovely. As was the shower, if only the water pressure had been good enough - we also had problems in our room, so presume it's a hotel wide problem. Our room was at the back, and overlooked a couple of late night bars, which made us very grateful to have brought ear plugs - there were no such problems at the front of the hotel, though - even with a wedding in full swing!! We also liked the fact there was plenty of trouble free parking for residents. On our first night, we left it quite late to eat, so were grateful that the hotel restaurant was still open until 10. We were the only ones in, which is a huge shame as the food was delightful and even though the prices were quite steep for Weston, the quality made the food value for money. I started with the beetroot cured gravlax bellini, as did my husband, which was beautifully presented - my cousin had the wild mushrooms - a huge portion! Both my husband and cousin wanted to try the veggie savoury bread and butter pudding, however, there wasn't any, so they both plumped for the stuffed acorn squash and said it was really lovely. I went for the pan friend ostrich fillet which was slightly chewy, but very flavoursome - and went especially well with the nutmeg creamed spinach. We were too full for a dessert - we weren't rushed to make a decision, but as soon as we did, the kitchen staff all left to go home! There's enough to do in Weston for a weekend break - and it's only down the road from some other lovely touristy spots such as Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge etc. The hotel and restaurant are both delightful - a real gem for Weston and I look forward to a return visit.

Well here's hoping I get the flowers to my mum-in-law before she reads this, because the lady needs to be thanked heartily. Locking Head Farm B&B deserves so much more than its three accommodation stars. Staying there feels like cosying up in the guest bedroom of a friend's house. The personal touches really make it, from the Cadbury Highlights (my favourite instant hot chocolate) in the tea and coffee making facilities WITH, I might add, a *full-sized* kettle, to the visitor's notebook, to the little brochure they've put together about their farm and the surrounding area, to the breakfast menu where you tick off your choice for the next morning. This is a family run business at its very best, right down to the little kids running about the place and the adorable family dog who will sit quietly next to you while you eat. The eating. Let me get onto that later, it needs an entire paragraph of its own. First of all, the story. So the significant other and I arrived here after a long and tiring journey from Manchester peppered with TalkSport Radio (gah!), argument-inducing car games like shag, cruise or marry, a horribly mediocre falafel panini from a service station Starbucks, far too many wine gums and a couple of disagreements about marriage and tradition. We travelled to these parts to attend a wedding, see. Driving down the farm path in the dark was an interesting experience, and we instantly had flashbacks from several horror movies. The sat nav said, "At the end of the road, turn left." I responded, "At the end of the road, you will see a hooded figure with a scythe." My companion exploded with nervous energy at that statement. However we were welcomed with open gate and open arms and led up to our room, given our breakfast menu to choose from and told to pop down if we needed anything. We were in Mendip. Ladies and gentlemen, this room is HUGE. Easily bigger than a studio apartment, with the softest sheets and towels I've ever had the fortune of laying myself upon or drying my delicate skin with. The TV? Glorious, in the perfect position next to a comfy sofa and lo and behold, Family Guy was on when it came to life. Then Lethal Weapon. I know this wasn't orchestrated by the B&B, but still... So the other half ordered a Full English, myself pancakes. Eggs in the breakfast come from the farm's own chickens, everything's locally sourced, and oh my word, these pancakes. I was silent. Freshly made, drenched in blueberry syrup with ripe warm blueberries scattered on top and stuffed inside. Not only is this included, but you get a bunch of cereals, yoghurts and fruits to choose from and get served hot toast as well as tea or coffee. And the next day after a taxi disaster returning from the wedding when we weren't able to pop anything on the breakfast menu, they served us the same again assuming that's what we'd want. So I got to have those unbelievable pancakes TWICE during my stay. Brilliant staff, great atmosphere, glorious location and reasonably priced - I'd recommend it to absolutely anyone and I'd go back to Weston-Super-Mare specifically for the purpose of staying there. I LOVED this place! First off, this bed and breakfast REALLY is in a village--the kind you see in…read morethe movies! Harts Lane is so narrow, my partner hesitated pulling our car into the lane and then really had second thoughts about pulling into the tiny parking area. I was too busy loving everything I could see to care about that! Then, we walked into the bed and breakfast, where an out-of-breath Linda Smith greeted us warmly and apologized for not being ready. We didn't mind. After all, there were TWO pubs in one TINY village! ;) When we returned from our obligatory pub visit, Linda led us upstairs and to our room. Do you know how sometimes places look clean but don't smell clean? This clean room smelled GREAT! Then, I went into the bathroom. It was completely remodeled and very modern. I was in heaven! A quaint, clean bedroom with a clean modern shower! There was even a place for me to sit down in the bedroom and put on my makeup. I decided to use it for sitting down and reading a daily devotional, but just having this wonderful space was a plus. Did I mention there was a fireplace? The next morning, Linda cooked us "whatever we wanted." My partner happily ordered sausage and eggs, and I ordered bacon and eggs. While we waited, I looked around the family dining room. There were wonderful family pictures--Linda and Ian Smith's wedding pictures, their children, etc. My partner meanwhile marveled at his freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the woodwork in the room. Then, the food came. The bacon was the size of 4 American slices stuck together but a lot thicker. Everything was delicious, but after we ate, we felt like we needed a nap! If you go to this area of England, stay here! The Smiths are very congenial people, their accommodations are clean, their food is outstanding, and the village is picturesque. You'll swear you're in a movie.
