Good restaurant on 2nd floor with views to castles, mountains and fields of green. Family friendly. Heads up for fellow US citizens, with kids : it's nudity friendly for old and young and everyone is civilized and autonomous about it. I know it's not for all families. We hiked nearby amongst roving goat herds, and had relaxing massages at the spa. Felt like rockstars in the penthouse suite with the hot pot, sauna and shower. The views were glorious, and we were lucky enough to get a room with a balcony that faced the mountains and the lake, it was such perfect scenery. The room itself was super clean and the bed was comfortable, albeit I'm not a huge fan of the separate blanket thing. We also had to call to the front desk to figure out how to kick on the heat #floridagirl (spoiler alert, there's a knob on the side of the radiator), but once it was going, everything was nice and cozy. And as I mentioned, the bathroom was big and had two sinks which is a plus. There was a lighted makeup mirror (yesssss) which is greatly appreciated, and there's a large bathtub for those that feel so inclined to bathe where 100s of others have before you :) They also provided nice bath amenities which didn't seem to be the trend amongst the other places I stayed at in Germany, so that's a nice extra as well. And that breakfast. delicious. Definitely not your lackluster continental breakfast with dehydrated eggs and pastries from a box. They had a huge variety and everything was kept clean and refilled regularly. They also offered us two bottles of water when we checked out. The only drawback here is that they are not all that close to Fussen's city center. I saw people say it was a 15 minute walk... but I doubt that, I'd say probably closer to 30. I can't fairly knock them for that though because that is partly why I booked this hotel - because I wanted to be a little more into nature and somewhere totally relaxing and laid back. Which Hotel Am Hopfensee definitely was. We did have a car, so we were able to drive into Fussen for dinner, but had we not had a car and had to stay in the general vicinity, the area is kind of sleepy. We returned to the hotel after dinner with plans to go across the street to the Irish pub... but it was a ghost town, like completely devoid of life inside. It was a cold night in late September, so maybe there is a little more going on during peak season, who knows. But just an FYI.

Our room (and the view from it) were gorgeous. All of the staff were so friendly and let us practice our bad German. We booked a spa service last minute and got to drift away in to relaxed bliss. We normally never eat at the hotels we stay at, and ended up eating every meal here! The food was just so good. After our first night, we added the half board to our room because we knew we never wanted to leave the property. The bar was great, and the bartender very friendly and good at making drinks. The heated pool was a nice touch (was just a tad cool for me, but perfect temperature for my husband). They had a giant pool (indoor/outdoor) and numerous relax rooms. Additionally, there were 7 different sauna rooms! Four of them were adults only (no clothing allowed, mixed genders) and three were clothing required. We tried every single sauna, just because we could. I loved the herb sauna, it made my lungs feel so fresh. One of the nights we were there, we were celebrating our wedding anniversary so the staff really did up dinner for us. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it.
