We knew a bit about Montessori from New York, and we were mainly looking for a good preschool or kindergarten. We honestly didn't think beyond that. What we found at Many Rivers Montessori changed our plans completely. Our kids were doing real hands-on work, not just academics, but practical life skills like learning to cook, cleaning or doing laundry, setting a table, and taking responsibility for their environment. They learned how to write in cursive, spent significant time outdoors, learned basic survival skills, went on field trips to nature preserves, and joined extracurricular activities like robotics, soccer, and chess club. Academically, they have excelled on their standardized testing and are often ahead of their age-matched peers at other schools. The mixed-age classrooms were something we didn't expect to love as much as we do. Older kids mentor younger ones, and younger children learn by watching and working alongside them. Over time, we've watched our own kids grow more confident, creative, independent, and comfortable solving problems in their own ways. We've also really valued the relationships with their guides. The smaller environment allows for a level of individual attention that has been really important to us. And the community itself, getting to know other families and having opportunities to be involved in our children's school, has been a big and unexpected part of the experience. Our son is now going into fifth grade and our daughter into third, and the fact that we're still here probably says more than anything else. I'd recommend that families moving to or living in the Duluth, Hermantown, or other nearby towns who are comparing school options take the time to see Many Rivers Montessori (MRM) for themselves. For us, it's been a place that nurtures the whole child, both inside and outside the classroom. Ultimately, we think they will be more than prepared in the future to thrive in an ever-changing and complex world. It has been an amazing experience and we are grateful!

I am full of confidence when I drop them off every day that they will be well cared for and feel safe with their friends. In addition to a fantastic learning environment for our (almost) 2nd grader and two Kindergarteners, I personally have found an amazing community in the parents and staff, something I didn't realize I needed or wanted, but cannot imagine letting go of at this point. Highly recommend and encourage you to learn more about this school yourself.

I just…read morecalled today, 2 weeks before our due date, to let them know we are still right on track and excited to enroll our new baby in early February. We were told that despite them confirming our spot back in March 2020, they actually no longer had a spot reserved. Apparently there was no intention of contacting us to let us know either. They offered to a) keep the deposit that they'd told us would guarantee our February 2021 spot and then (supposedly) put us on the list for August 2021, or b) send our deposit back. So, we are in the middle of a pandemic, two weeks away from being first-time parents and just finding out our daycare provider isn't honoring our agreed upon start date and, if we still want to enroll a year from now, we will have to let them keep the deposit that was supposed to pay for our February spot. I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone who values reliability or communication from a daycare provider. Hopefully there is someone else out there that can take an infant on about 5 months notice.

Hands down the best daycare in Duluth…read more The teachers are wonderful. The owner is a treasure. The food is made from an on-site chef. The curriculum is interesting and age appropriate. The building is secure and they have two outdoor play areas and also a fenced in black top where the kids can play with balls and ride bikes/scooters in the summer (they even have helmets for each child!). In the summer they have a garden that the kids participate in for growing, a water/sand sensory section, and an outdoor playground and pretend area. Happy Time Day Care also has themed parties occasionally for holidays or for fun (pajama day - how cool!) and they also have a stage where they put on plays sometimes. The indoor pretend area has a neat little playhouse, play kitchen, and even a dress up closet! There are also blocks, musical toys, sensory tables, puzzles, and a huge arts and crafts wall! I know that's not all but there is so much for kids to do there. This day care is organized, professional, clean, and fun. Our child loves this day care and that says so much. My husband and I toured several day cares in two cities and Happy Time Day Care is the best we have found. Our child has been attending this day care weekly for several months. There isn't anything about this day care that I would change, although I hope they open another location some day so more children can attend because we need more day cares with excellent ethics like Happy Time.

When we decided to send our children to Cathedral we did so for two reasons; the first, was the strong education we knew they would get from the school. And second (but not least) the faith based mission of the school. They have been surrounded by children of families who feel the same as we do. The school offers a very caring and nurturing environment for the students, yet they do not baby them. They teach and expect independence and responsibility from each child. We feel that Cathedral School has been a valuable investment in our children's education and character.
