I'm putting 3 stars only because my 28-week preemie daughter's stay in the NICU deserves a 5-star…read morerating. During that time, she couldn't have received better care, with top-notch, kind, caring neonatologists who called us daily about her condition, and the nurses were just as awesome, especially Clay and Amanda. The NICU and 4th floor is awesome. Now the 0-star rating: However, the last time I was in the ER wasn't worth the $250 copay. The entire left side of my face was swollen, which raised suspicion at Affinity Walk-in Clinic that I had parotitis. Also I had horrible painful bumps on the left forehead and fever of 99.9. The nurse practitioner Debra Blanson wouldn't let me speak at all until they went over the chart and "measured" my lymph nodes. I was given Augmentin and sent home. When I followed up with my regular doctor's nurse practitioner, Matilda (who's awesome) she took one look at my forehead and said "It's shingles" and ordered a CT head (which Affinity originally suggested, which I told Debra Blanson but she brushed that aside and ordered a skull x-ray) and gave me an antiviral for the shingles with something for the shingles pain. Come ON, skull x-ray (only covers bone, not tissue - I work in healthcare) and Augmentin (antibiotic, which doesn't do squat for a virus)??? I didn't even get to see a doctor. I've had both good and bad experiences at St. Francis, but that ER visit just blows.

I presented to the emergency department with complaints of labile blood pressure, chest pain, and…read moreweakness on 10/23/26 at approximately 8am. Despite these symptoms, I was never placed in a hospital bed and remained seated in a chair for the entire duration of my visit, which lasted at least six hours. My blood pressure was measured only twice: once at the beginning of my visit and once at the end. Despite presenting with a history of significantly fluctuating blood pressure and having an elevated reading during my visit, my blood pressure was not monitored at regular intervals throughout my stay. I informed the healthcare team of my concerns and showed them blood pressure readings I had recorded over the preceding 12 hours, documenting significant fluctuations between low and high readings. Despite this information, no ongoing blood pressure monitoring was performed during my approximately six-hour stay. My primary concern is that the lack of serial blood pressure measurements may have resulted in significant episodes of hypotension going undetected, particularly because fluctuating blood pressure was one of the primary reasons I sought emergency care in the first place. Without repeated measurements, there was no way to adequately assess the extent of my blood pressure fluctuations or determine whether clinically significant changes occurred during my stay. I am concerned about the adequacy of the monitoring and assessment provided given my presenting symptoms of chest pain, weakness, and labile blood pressure. My care did not meet appropriate standards for a patient presenting with these symptoms. Also, I was placed on a cardiac monitor in the person monitoring the telemetry is on the other side of the facility. No one in the ER sees the telemetry so they do not know what the rhythm is or if there is any arrhythmias, unless the person who is monitoring it notifies them so I very well could've been throwing some arrhythmias, and it is the monitor tech responsibility to notify the provider if they deem it is necessary. So I very well could've had some arrhythmias that was either missed or thought it was not important enough to report. I asked to Provider if she evaluated my telemetry and this is the answer that I received. She had no clue what my rhythm was. These are pictures of information I presented to the medical staff.

I was on vacation when I developed a fever (102.8) and began to have muscle spasms in my neck and…read moreshoulders. After 3 days, I went to a local doctor who prescribed Tylenol and muscle relaxers when I told him that going home would require a 10 hour flight followed by a 4 hour car road. The trip home was torture - every bump send jolts of pain through me and spasms began to radiate down my arms. Upon returning home, I went to Urgent Care because my primary care doctor couldn't see me for a week. The PA had amazing bedside manner and took lots of time. All tests were negative, but he gave me a steroid shot and more muscle relaxers. He and my primary care doctor told me to go to the ER if I had not improved in 3 days. By day three, I couldn't tie my shoes, get out of bed on my own, and was imagining that I had meningitis, a compressed disc or some horrible disease. I think God wanted me to lean on Him more and when I did, He stepped in to handle things. I went to the St. Francis ER. Every seat was filled with people and some had been there a few hours. While I sat, the police brought in a gunshot victim and a DUI who had crashed into 3 cars. The prisoners had to be triaged while the police interrogated and guarded them. Hey, I had no problems compared to them. I could wait a while longer. From the intake clerk, Candis the phlebotomist, the radiologist, the lady who kept coming to offer comfort while updating my vitals, the RN who kept checking on my pain levels, and the PA who was monitoring me as I waited to see the doctor, I saw a sympathetic, well trained professional team dedicated to patient care. Finally, Dr. Louie V. Crook came to examine me. He immediately calmed my fears that I wasn't dying and there was treatment. His careful examination (I didn't want anyone to touch me or make me get off the bed because it hurt so much) as he explained what he was doing to the PA meant so much. He was patient, reassuring, kind. Boy, does he know his stuff! He realized that the spams and pain required some heavy duty painkillers to block the pain and more steroids. In 10 minutes, the nurse came back with two shots. I don't know what was in them, but Thank God for helping someone invent medicine. They waited to be sure that I was feeling relief and had no side effects before releasing me. For the first time in over two weeks, I slept through the night. I feel like a new person this morning. I got out of bed unaided. The aches and pains are so much better and my fever is gone. I want to commend St. Francis for creating this ER team. Everyone was outstanding. Please let them know how much their care meant to me. I wish that I knew the name of each person so that I could thank them individually. The complaints I read are unjustified. I think these people were probably in so much pain that they were not able to see the team team's focus on each patient among the many. Thank you for the mission to treat the community and the excellent staff you hired to meet this mission
