Nice library in a convenient area to shop or do grocery shopping…read more Study rooms are available with no time limit. Lots of DVD selections. You can rent board games. The library sits on the second floor with lots of windows and natural lighting. Can play video games in the teen section. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. Make yourself a coffee for $1 on the first floor. The only thing is that the study rooms have no blinds or curtains, so it was pretty bright. It is hard to see if you're using a laptop because the light reflects the screen a lot. A good thing is that each room has an air filter which keeps the room cool and fresh.

Gone are the days of library voices and everyone, including staff staff carry on conversations in their regular voices and there is no inside "library" voices used on the various times I have been there. Director Genna replied to my post on google and I cant reply so I am doing so here. There are quiet/study rooms with doors, but unfortunately its so loud that you can hear everything as if the conversation is happening in the study room. Since when is a library a gathering place for conversation outside of the kids area or behind closed doors. Would not recommend for a quiet place. Staff are almost always the loudest and voices are not even kept softly.

I've driven the entire 293 miles countless times so I can explain pretty thoroughly everything you can encounter.... If you're entering from St. Louis, there's a bit of traffic you might fight through until you reach mile marker 15... The entire drive is smooth through Springfield (as long as you don't get follow business 55) all the up just to the southern border of Bloomington where there may be some slight confusion. After that, I highly recommend taking a stop at exit 197 and visiting the Wallys gas station which is like a Bucees but also recommended stopping there before the gas prices start jumping way up too! Continuing north bound traffic is smooth until you get past exit 250 at the I-80 interchange where you enter the Chicagoland area where traffic builds up with each passing interstate connector you go through with exit 269 to connect you with I-355 where going north is awful. Then with where heading in either direction is bad with exit 277 with people either going toward Wisconsin or Indiana then followed by exit 290 where you're faced with even more traffic going north to Wisconsin or Indiana. If you drive through that, your drive will be smooth for the next few miles Exit 293 will conclude I-55 and split into lake shore drive and you can choose what adventure you want to do from there. For my trucker friends, if you're curious about weigh stations to plan your drive through, from north to south you have 3 weigh stations. One in between exits 267 and 263.... One past exit 110 and the last one past exit 15 in Collinsville.... From South to north there are 2 weigh stations, one past exit 52 and another between 263 and 267... Rest stops are lousy, plenty of route 66 tourist attractions. Some cool towns worth stopping at.

The Metamora Courthouse Historic Site was a fun little stop during one of my times exploring the little town of... well... Metamora. My girlfriend at the time was from around this area, so I thought we should explore most of what the town and surrounding area has to offer. If you are a fan of historical things, Metamora itself has a ton of it's lineage still around and open for visits. This courthouse is no exception. I was pleasantly surprised that we got a bit of a tour/guide at the Courthouse. We got to look at stuff going our own pace but the people there were helpful in explaining the history of the things we were looking at. They also took us from room to room and explained what each one was used for. After spending maybe 30 minutes of browsing and getting some history lessons, we decided we had enough of the little courthouse and the history of Metamora, and to some extent, Illinois. The folks there were lovely and took the time to explain a lot of stuff to us. They are never overbearing or overloading on the information. It was the perfect informal tour. Metamora itself is a great place to bring kids for a field trip from school. Between all these historical places to see and the beautiful Black Partridge Park and Partridge Point Orchard, you couldn't ask for a more fun small Midwest town to explore.
