*****DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY******.. I've had Unique insurance for about 13 years. This company is TERRIBLE. It took me to have my 2nd accident, which was a blessing in disguise to leave them. The guy who hit me from behind, had Unique insurance also. You would think, it wouldn't be any problems sense we are both "under" the same insurance---WRONG! Long story short, I had the worst time getting my car fixed and getting reimburse for my rental car. No one returned any of my calls. I ended up going up there SEVERAL times until I got some answers. Now, they are refusing to pay for my chriopractor visit (remind you, someone hit me). This is a 8 months later.. The orginal claim adjuster got fired. I went up there and the "new" adjuster told me "we don't care how long you were with us" that's when I went OFF! So, they threaten to call the police and the claims guy was shook up from my reponse.. Oh well! Thank God for the last accident.. I switched to Geico-no complaints so far.. Someone with Unique rear-ended me back in May. I still probably wouldn't have my car repaired if I hadn't gone through my own insurance. My insurance is going to court to get the money back for the repairs, including my deductible. Unique does everything they can to drag out the process and hope that they can get out of paying the claim. This is a shady, awful business. If only I could avoid dealing with them... but you can't choose what insurance a person that hits you has. I hope the Better Business Bureau can get involved and shut this place down. read more

Surprise surprise, Every review is One Star... Everything about Unique is horrible and it should be illegal for drivers to insure their cars with such an awful company. It is illegal to drive without insurance in the state of Illinois but for some reason it is ok for people to have insurance through a company that sucks and does not pay claims. My wife, baby and I were driving North on Halsted and got rear ended at a red light. The driver was not a US citizen and did not have a DL but she did have insurance from Unique. She called her agent after the accident and put me on the phone with her and they were aware that they insure illegals and it was none of my concern. They took responsibility for the accident but what good does that do if the don't pay. I was forced to go through Allstate to get the work done and it cost me our $1000 deductible to get the car repaired. Allstate was not able to recover any money from Unique. This place should be shut down by the city and state and the owners should be sued personally for every penny they have screwed people out of. On January 8th our car was parked and hit by someone insured by Unique, they are the absolute worst! We attempted to do the online claim but even after that we had to redo it with someone over the phone. Their phone system is not user friendly and many options end with you getting hung up on or at a dead end. We were finally given an adjuster, named Bernard, he takes days to return calls and when he does he is extremely rude. I have left several messages explaining that my husband is the registered owner and every time he calls me he feels the need to tell me he doesn't know who I am in relation to the case and he doesn't know why I would be calling him. He has had us send in all of our evidence via an email, which I did immediately and got not response that it was received or what they planned to do. Our car is sitting in a spot where it is liable to get tickets with the snow piling up, the car is completely totaled and will need a flat bed tow truck to remove it. We now face challenges getting back and forth to work and picking up our kids. They have not sent an appraiser out. We will not incur more costs having it towed and stored because I doubt Unique is going to take any responsibility. We have photos of the car and video of the accident itself, the other driver told the police officer it was his fault. There is absolutely no dispute in their responsibility here and yet they feel the need to avoid doing the right thing. Update: About 3 hours after my initial review, I received a call from Bernard. He was polite and informed me that they cannot do anything until they receive paperwork from the insured. I will update as things unfold. read more

I write to express my utter disappointment and disgust with l'Unique Insurance. Approximately 3 weeks ago, a motorist drove his car into my backyard ruining destroying a part of my fence and running into my thermopump. An adjuster came to visit the home approximately 4 days later and evaluated the damage, and obviously agreed that both the fence needed to be repaired and thermopump was to be replaced. The adjuster told me to send him estimates of the work that needed to be done and they would handle the situation. Fast forward 2 weeks later, and I have not been given the go ahead to perform the work from the insurance company. They claim that I live in a divided co-ownership and they have to determine if it is a common portion or private portion where the damage occurred and whose insurance should be affected. First of all, it is clearly the motorist's insurance that will cover all the costs. Secondly, they received all the necessary documents from the administration of the co-ownership stating that whatever is located on the private portion, meaning my lot is my responsibility, and thirdly, I have literally sent them the exact paragraphs stating this to the adjuster. Still no decision even though it is so clear. I explained to the adjuster that I live with an elderly lady and we are experiencing an extreme heatwave, however, there was no solution given. I had asked if we could rent a hotel room for my mother-in-law due to the heat, but they explained it is NOT AN UNLIVABLE CONDITION. Seriously??? 40 degrees? It is unbelievable that I have literally shown this company all the necessary proof and documentation that they have asked for and they have been completely useless and unapologetic. I am one of the many people here trying to warn everybody before they interact with this company. I was rear-ended by one of their clients. We exchanged information, and ever since then I have been trying to get payment from this terrible scam business that alternates the name between "Lighthouse Casualty" and "Unique Insurance". They are one and the same! I don't know if the driver is part of this scam (like he got insured by it knowing it was super cheap and not going to ever help out- his car was in really bad shape) or if he is also a victim, but if you are ever in an accident with somebody with this insurance, CALL THE POLICE AND GET A POLICE REPORT and probably hire a good lawyer too. It is really hard to get this awful company to pay for anything. Also- the only way you can ever speak to an actual person is to call their "Make a Payment" extension. A motorist with coverage from this company ran into my elderly mother's vehicle. She was completely at fault and was ticketed accordingly. Shortly thereafter my mother received a letter from this company stating that the motorist coverage was terminated due to a previous traffic ticket and so the claim was denied. The motorist had not idea that this dirtbag company was going to cancel her coverage and deny her claim. Unbeknownst to her she was driving without insurance. I've never heard of this insurance in my life as a matter of fact I did not even realize that I had this insurance until I tried to add listed insured for a new job. The lady told me I would have to drop my insurance policy that I have now (which is paid for one year) and pick up a commerical auto insurance because I want to add listed insured on my policy. I have friends that had to add the same and did so with no extra or any problems. now I have to shop for a new insurance, but over all am greatful I didnt have to have an accident to see the trouble. read more

My husband was far too patient and believed they would pay if he gave them time. He lost so much because of Unique Insurance Company. Their non-payment of his medical bills has ruined his credit. He lost a very nice truck due to an accident where the other driver was at fault (she alone was ticketed), and he could only afford to replace it with a junker. He has ongoing pain, lost time from work after the accident, and got nothing to cover those hours missed or the pain he has to deal with as well as any future doctor visits due to these injuries. I writing this review on behave of my son who's car was involved in a hit and run, which happened on June 22nd and was reported. Unique had him to tow it to Complete Auto Service, which as of today still they have not been worked on it what a horrible experience. I would never ever recommend anyone to this company horrible customer service. They are not on top of it at all. I should have been recommended to take the vehicle to a repair shop of my choice, which I know that I would of had my vehicle back by now. How is this company still in business. My experience is the same as everyone on here. Stay away if you can. Unfortunately for me I had to deal with them because one of their insured drivers hit me. I wasn't injured but the damage to my vehicle was extensive. They asked me to take my car to a hole in the wall repair shop, so they could give me a low ball estimate for the damages. They ended up only giving me half of what I needed to repair my vehicle. They funny thing is when I called several different lawyers for assistance most won't even take my case once I told them them I was dealing with Unique. One lawyer straight up told me "take what they are offering and run", exact words. He said its not worth my time and energy to deal with these individuals. The icing on the cake is that they have some of the worst customer service I have experienced.They don't answer their phone, and when you leave a message and then they don't return your calls. I called them at 4:20pm after being involved in an accident with one of their policy holders. After being told the policy didn't exist and being told they would put me on hold why they call the policy holder they proceeded to hang up on me. It was late in the evening when the accident occurred they sent someone right away and stayed in contact with me until the tow truck they recommended came. I would give -5 stars if I could! this company is worst of the worst. I was hit by one of their insured and they refused to pay for towing charge (440$)! According to the police report, this is totally the other car's fault and Unique is fully responsible for the damage. Towing charge should be part of my damage and loss and they refused to pay which is ridiculous. I have never seen a company like this. I talked to the adjuster Latonya Strong and all she said is we are not responsible for third party vehicle towing. If you are not responsible, why would people pay for your insurance? After I made a claim with Unique, I have not receive any call from them. I called the adjuster 100x per day and she does not answer the phone. I left a message and she never reply. Finally, I report her on BBB and I received a call from her 3 days later. She said the appraiser already came to my apartment to estimate the cost to repair my car. However, my car was parking in a private garage. The appraiser does not even have access to my car. This is so funny. Don't treat me like I am a child. She is such a liar. My advice is: if you have to deal with Unique, first of all, please don't wait and report them on BBB. Do not expect them to call you and do not waste your time to call adjuster and leave messages. They will not contact you unless you report them on BBB. Report them as many times as you can until you receive a payment. read more

They should not be allowed to write insurance! A car which was insured by them rear ended me at a red light. Driver was ticketed for following too close. After 2-1/2 months, their response is the driver was the father of the car owner/insured. The son told them (I feel Unique coached him) that he did not give his father permission to drive his car at that time. Since the father was not listed as a driver on the policy, and did not have permission, they will not pay for damage to my car. I told the claims agent on the phone to suck a certain part of my anatomy and hung up. Will have to sue in small claims court. read more

It has been almost 2 years they haven't settled my case yet ! My Insurance company METLIFE filed a law suit against them and got the money out. They never called me or tried to contact me. I had to finally visit the office, which you shouldn't have to do when you're paying for insurance. They tried to tell me they were closed. I told them no, it's 4:45 Friday, you don't close until 5. The receptionist told me she would check to see if my "agent" was even there. Oh wow thanks, you're telling me she might've went home early to enjoy the rest of her day off while my car has been sitting in the tow lot for 11 days. Really shows the work ethic of these people. Well, miraculously she was there. I told her my car has been in the tow lot for 11 days. She kept telling me they only pay up to $500 for towing storage. I just got a letter from them in the mail saying the insured person canceled their coverage on 1/9/20 and didn't reinstate it until 1/14/20 ( the accident was on 1/11/21). Come on... you expect me to believe the policy just so happened to be canceled 2 days before the accident...total BS!) My car was a total loss... I filed an on-line complaint with the Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) and Unique finally responded to my carrier's subrogation (collection) attempts.
