Large, and somewhat overwhelming, this store has a large amount of merchandise, that's somewhat organized. Printers are hit or miss, usually miss, because they don't accept returns and most are broken, yet priced as if they work. What's the point of trying to keep things from landfills when you're literally throwing money away on junk? No returns if they don't work, and if they're out of ink or don't have the right adapter, why is it priced at the level that it is? I think someone has been watching too many eBay thrift videos where the person buys junk and claims to make thousands in profit. Not buying it because people don't service old printers, they just buy new ones, which creates the electronic waste problem that we have in the world. Fake designer merchandise at higher prices than one might buy it from a dubious website overseas? Check,. And, the bonus is that it's secured at a desk to make people think that they are real, but one can tell the vast majority of them are impostors with a look, if you know the real deal. Stains, chips, and cracks abound on much of the merchandise, and I do not know if the chips and cracks occur because of the store and the way the items are handled, or if they are received in that condition and processed anyway. Prices are all over the place, with some mediocre fast fashion that's out of style priced at or higher than the store when new, but then people claim to find designer items here. I hope that they are actual designer, and not the same as those in the "secured" area that do not appear to have the same authenticity as a real branded item that one may own from the same fashion house. read more

This place has many great stuff. Please know, these are donations from different people locally. They don't have to pay for these items but some/most of their items are priced almost the same price as you can see them at department stores on their sale isles. Except department stores sells new items. Pay attention to them when you shop at Ross, Marshals, even dollar stores. They don't make sense at all when it comes to pricing. Ridiculous. The owner is probably a freakn millionaire. Paying their employees minimum wage and making lots money on donations. Shame. read more

My go to thrift store whenever I'm in need of home decor or candles! Love being able to give old items a new purpose

More like 3.5 stars. I'm moving into a new place and needed kitchen stuff, and on that front, Unique delivered big time. I got a fancy blender/food processor for $9.99, and I appreciated the fact that I was able to plug it into one of the many outlets lining the appliance section to make sure it worked. I also picked up a nice cookie sheet, a few pots and pans, and some dishes and silverware. What other reviewers have said about some of the kitchen stuff being dirty is true, but it's not like I wouldn't scrub it down before I used it anyway. The clothes were all duds for me -- nothing particularly exciting in the women's section, and certainly no vintage. I was expecting a huge selection, but for as big as this place is, they really didn't have much. My roommate, who is male, got five or six nice dress shirts. We both found a few good books. The cast-off beauty section is pretty weird. Half-empty bottle of Garnier styling cream? No thanks. Full bottle of my favorite discontinued Aveda detangler for $1.50? Yes please! And I almost bought the '70s-era Suave travel set just for the packaging, but that balsam and protein shampoo always skeeved me out, and I'd rather continue trying to forget it ever existed. (Seriously, WTF is "balsam?" And what became of it after 1981?) Don't even get me started on the used underwear hanging on hangers. I'm going to try to pretend I didn't see it (as soon as I post a picture of it so all of you can see it too.) And if you're looking for a Linda Evans-endorsed Rejuvenique facial-electrocution mask, this is totally where you'll find it. My roommate couldn't resist the Big Country audio cassette for 25 cents, which meant I had to listen to him school the cashier on the fact that no, it was NOT a videotape. First off, this place is gigantic! When you first walk in you're like "What the heck?! I thought this was a thrift store, not a flea market" because there are maybe 6 flea-market style vendors set up at the entrance. Off to the right is the actual thrift store. The sizing situation was a bit of a thorn in my side. What was labeled as "small" was very much relative. Anything ranging from a size 8 on down was labeled as "small." This kinda stank. Much of that stuff was size 6 and size 8 labeled as small although there is no way on earth that I'd ever fit into it. That said, the section of items for Misses size 2-4 was much slimmer than the others. However, I did get some nice finds, especially in the skirt section. I scored a couple of skirts for $4 (H &M and Old Navy) and a nice tweed jacket (a Macy's Junior's brand). If you are an animated movie lover like me who never gave up the old VCR player after upgrading to a DVD player back in the day, then there is a major score awaiting in the movie section. Lots of great VHS animated classics for $.99. If you then the book section is just craziness!! Most of the fiction is pretty cheesy stuff, but there was a sprinkling of nonfiction that was obviously dropped off a college student or two (stuff that just screamed "I read this for class," but stuff that I'd definitely like just the same :), and then there was the jackpot--buckets of old Southern Living cookbooks. The Southern Living books (~$2.50) were great, pristine condition aside from the stale smell. These were really great finds for anyone looking to brush up on some classics in the kitchen. Lots of volumes from the 80s and 90s. All in all...smelled like a thrift store in spots, some shoppers seemed to have gone through Miami shopper training (no common courtesy--keeping carts toward the far side of the aisle as opposed to the middle, standing close to the rack rather than smack in my way, etc), a lot of random, uninteresting clothing (not even any weird or stand out pieces), but if you are patient there are definitely some great finds sprinkled in. Men, oh men...There are a number of leather coats. I think that guys could score big in the jacket section. Furniture section is mostly particle board type stuff, by the way. If you don't plan on staying where you are for long, however, and you know how to slap on some stain then this place is chock full of bookshelves and desks. In sum, looking forward to returning soon. P.S. Ladies, if you wear size 7-1/2 shoes, girl you better go get your super cute mustard yellow BCBG pointed toe stilettos in prime condition. They're waiting for you on top of one of the clothing racks toward the middle of the store. read more

I don't know if words can describe Unique Thrift Store, but I have to say I love it. Though it's located in the suburbs of Northern Virginia, it more closely resembles a giant outdoor shopping center in Thailand, but with shoddier merchandise. You can get anything from used toilet seats to fake purses to mismatched bar stools to trashy romance novels and old CD's (Ace of Base, anyone?) I'm sure there are some treasures to be found if you're willing to invest a couple of hours. I only spent one hour, and I ended up with a cute scarf for $1.50 and a few CD's, some good, and some which I am too embarrassed to admit I now own. If for no other reason, I highly recommend a trip to Unique just for the experience. read more

I like a good deal but this place is way too overwhelming for me. Think of UTS as a 4 Goodwills crammed together to make a super giant Goodwill. There is a lot of stuff in here. I didn't get even get through the whole store because i came on a Thursday which I guess is one of the sales day and was crowded. I think I mostly stayed on the right side which is where all the kitchen ware, purses, appliances, and such were. I did buy a CD rack made from a recycled wine crate ($5) and ceramic jar for storing sugar ($3). It's relatively organized I must say for being the huge store it is but I just don't have the patience to sift through stuff to find a good deal. read more

Unique is an interesting thrift store to say the least. I arrived this morning about 15 minutes before opening because I know how insanely crowded this place gets on the weekend. There were already people waiting outside. I needed to find some comfy yet stylish, and most importantly, affordable clothing for my new job. It took a long time searching but I managed to find some good stuff. As others have mentioned, there are no fitting rooms. It's a shame... but at least you can come back and exchange your purchase if it doesn't fit. I'll definitely come back here but most likely on a Thursday. I'm a hardcore thrifter and I normally thrift in Los Angeles, so coming here to Virginia, it's been very hard to find a good solid thrift store and not another "buffalo exchange." This place came to a complete surprise to me. I definitely enjoyed sifting through the rows and rows of awesome clothes. You should come with the mindset and understanding that this thrift store is dirty and organized to the best of its ability. ADVICE: This is very close to bin diving. You should get a shopping cart and whenever you are interested in something just throw it in your cart because once you put it down, you will never see it again. My personal hunts include board games, Choose Your Own Adventure books, and kitchen gadgets. They never let me down. From the old--CD players?! To the new--Routers To the strange--Crochet picture frames They have a little bit of everything. On Monday nights they run a special that everything is 20% off. However now, they've implemented something new on Thursdays where everything is 25% off with their special "Member Card". The card is free but cannot be given out on Thursdays---so don't think you can sign up for one that night and use it same day. And forget about asking a "neighborly patron" they covet these cards like gold haha. Other than this I really like the place. Wow! I was mind blown when I first walked in. They have everything here. I started off in the neatly organized shoes section. When I say everything is organized I mean they keep it all so neat and tidy for how sloppy the customers I saw were. Although the customers were rude, the checkout service was fabulous. I am happy with the huge kids department. I got great deals on Abercrombie Kids clothing then found an Eileen Fisher tee shirt I couldn't pass up! I can't wait to come back when I can spend hours here! Shop on Monday for 25% savings! Cons- the shoes were ugly! If you want ugly, dirty, shoes this is the best place to go! And the screaming children will get you out of there fast. Unique thrift is huge and at times overwhelming. If you are into shopping reserve at least an hour here. It's fairly well organized with the majority being clothing in the middle. I've always been able to find something when in the mood. There are ok shoes. There are also dressing rooms, but many savvy shoppers will just try on clothes in front of the mirrors. The housewares section is nice and I've gotten some ceramic jars and picture frames. DVD and CD section is small relative to the entire store. Large book section and I've gotten some cookbooks and home gardening books. I've never seen any appliances that have caught my eye but worth a look. If you are in the area sign up for the card because there are usually weekly offers and occasional half off sales, which makes this place even more of a madhouse and also my husband concerned. Great thrift shop! Walk into Unique and it's like stepping into another country -- a country of bargains. There are lots of vendors set up on your way in selling old DVDs, jewelry, and more, but the main attraction's on the inside where you can find all sorts of knicknacks, paddywacks, and bones. There's a good selection of men's clothing here, but a lot of it is in bad shape. One exception was a great Oscar de la Renta coat I nabbed for $10 - 15 -- and that was expensive for Unique! In the back are a bunch of old, musty electronics nobody would want except art students and some other stuff -- it's the clothes you'll probably want to come for. I want to like this place sooo much but something just won't let me. First off, its huge, I mean gigantically enormous. What I don't get is the fact that there are like small room shops before you actually enter into the actual thrift store area. Although there is a large selection of items, it totally sucks that there aren't any dressing rooms. I guess the reason why I scored sooo low is that the past 2 times I've visited the air did not work. Picture this, a room full of thrifted clothing etcetera plus several people and no ventilation, a disaster in the making in regard to smells. Several days ago I saw a desk that would be perfect for my boyfriend. Today, we went back to Unique, hoping it would still be there to purchase. It was. Once I learned that you have to go to the furniture department to get a slip, I met Khalid. He was helping another customer, but got to me very quickly. After I paid for the desk, Khalid brought it out to my car. Even though my boyfriend and I measured the desk and trunk, we had a little difficulty angling it to fit into the car. Khalid, however, jumped right in to help us, no questions asked. He made a few adjustments and helped us get the desk into our car. Yesterday was the most horrific shopping experience of my life. I will preface by saying that I am an avid thrifter and huge fan of Savers. Wanting an adventure, we drove ~1 hr to check out this Unique location. I found two metal duck bookends - one large, one small. Aside from their size, they were identical. The small one was tagged $10.99, the larger one $4.99. When I checked out, I asked the cashier if there could be a price adjustment for the smaller one. She replied that she had to ask her manager. A man came over, reviewed the tags, and said that the large duck for $4.99 was improperly tagged. The large duck said "metal knick knack" and the small duck said "metal household." He then removed the tag for $4.99 and went to go discuss with his manager. He then returned and repeated that it's not the right price, and that if I wanted to purchase the large duck I would have to pay the higher price of $10.99 or come back tomorrow so the item could be retagged. I explained that I live an hour away and it's not possible to return the next day. And reiterate that I want to purchase both ducks. So he speaks to the cashier. I think we are in the clear and on the same page. Then before inserting my credit card, I notice that I'm being charged $10.99 per duck. I explain that t's not okay to upcharge me - I will pay the ticketed prices. He then calls over the actual manager. A lady walks over. She says it's the wrong price and that she can't sell the duck to me at all. THEN attempts to reach over the counter to take the tall duck. I moved the ducks and reiterated that I would be purchasing them. Then she screamed at the top of her lungs that SHE WAS CALLING THE POLICE then ran into the back office.  After a minute of nothing happening, I then approached the back office to see what was going on and where this was going next? The manager then explained that this was corporate policy and suggested that I had switched the price tags. I encouraged her to check her security footage - the tags were not changed by myself nor another customer, they were tagged that way by her staff. I then reiterated that I didn't want any issues and simply wanted to purchase the ducks. In the end, I paid $10.99 PER duck.  It seemed like the manager arbitrarily felt the price was too low and I ended up paying for it in the end, both dollar wise and emotionally. Not only was this beyond embarrassing and humiliating, but the whole thing could have been avoided... Savers, please train your managers on customer service! read more

This is my favorite thrift store in the DMV. For all the people complaining that it's not clean, HELLO IT'S A THRIFT STORE. If you want a Tyson's Mall experience, this is not it. I have bought multiple dresses for work, cardigans, Jones New York blouses, Rocawear jeans, a Coach purse for a name brand loving friend, and I paid very little. Do make sure you sign up for the rewards account with your email so you can be notified of their great sales. I believe the jeans I bought there on Black Friday were 75% off, and I met a nice lady who had spilled paint on her own favorite pair. I actually love this place and have never been treated rudely by staff. I find incredible things all the time throughout the store but I have been thrifting for decades and have a honed eye. Definitely hit/miss in this huge-normous cavern of a space. You can walk out here with some killer deals: the first time I went, I got a Marc Jacobs T-shirt dress thing for about $8.00, a (NEW! still with tags) Lily Pulitzer sweater for $7, and a whole pile of clothing for my niece and nephew. I ended up with 8 plastic bags of clothing for less than $50. The next couple of times I visited, I struck out. A few weekends ago, I went with a friend and bought a $3 wok that I cleaned and re-seasoned (I love it) and a $1 copper cookie cutter. I think it really depends on when you go - if the racks have been newly stocked, you can get some killer deals. But with the horrible economy, fewer people are donating, more people are buying, so the amazing finds are much harder to come by. (My wok is kickass, btw. Makes up for the lack of luck I've had the past few times I've visited.) read more

you need to enjoy thrift shopping to like Unique. As you go into the store, there are a few smaller independent shops that sell toys, clothes, and electronics...there's even an eyebrow place. Sometimes the shops are open and sometimes closed. I haven't figured out the schedule. The overall shop recently (sort of) re-organized a bit. To your right there's some larger furniture, shoes, purses, accessories. To your left is the majority of the store and in front is a large glass case of jewelry (I've never really looked at it, but seems to be costume jewelry for the most part). There's rows of clothing organized mainly by season (short sleeve, sweaters, dresses, etc.). The sizes are mainly in order, but it's not precise. I've seen bras and swimsuits too, and I bought tons of maternity clothes (which can be found around the pj section, but might have moved). There's tons of holiday stuff up front, office supplies, housewares, dvd/vhs/cds, books, and toys/kids stuff. Although everything is in it's area, it's not really organized. And, the books/media is really not in a particular order other than maybe the cook books. they do have a sale, though, buy 5 books and get one free. For the most part, the prices are really good. And, if you sign up, there's a 25% off Monday and Thursday, along with a senior discount on Tuesday(?). If you don't want to sign up, then bring some stuff and you can get a coupon for 20% off everything (you'll need to ask when you drop off the donation). read more

We went in to just browse and my husband and I purchased $200 worth of fall/winter clothing, most of which was high end name brands, some still had original tags. Unique Thrift is a giant thrift store loaded with donated goods. At the entrance, there are independently-owned/run flea market-type stores, which I skipped. The actual store is row after row of clothes, books, toys, housewares, and so forth. Towards the back are electronics and furniture. You'll need a good chunk of time to look through everything, and even then, you could do another lap, because the staff is constantly re-loading the shelves with new inventory. I spied several loose 80s GI Joe vehicles, but passed because they were incomplete. I *did*, however, find a great 70s vintage alarm clock for $4.99 (they usually run $20+ on Etsy), and a neat soapdish for a buck. Go hunting! read more

I go and donate all unwanted items to unique Like furniture and home goods they repurpose them and I think they end up selling them or donating them to needy people but I just want to mention that there is something that impressed me there it's an old employee's name Daniel this Man always working so hard moving staff around and helping customers I can't believe the energy and the speed helping all this people that come to there store every day with a big smile in his face . I just gave them one star cause after the old man Daniel got hurt at work he was moved to an other department they put some new people that are very rude and Not professional specially the donation manager very rude I took two couches for donation the were in fair condition they can be repurposed when I asked him way he said this is a business it's not a charity we sale this for a profit I realize that this is true So they have a showroom they select the good stuff and they dispose the rest they are helping nobody and they pocket all the money . read more

OMG. This place is sooo goooood. I live in Rockville MD and their unique does not compare with this one. This place has better stuff and it's way bigger. My only complaint and the reason why there isn't 5 is because In the back of the store there is so good stuff and we want to get it but we can't because it says employees only and that was really bad because I was looking for a bike and there were bikes in my size back there but I couldn't get them because it was employees only. But other than that, this place is really good, great brands , great prices. read more

Ok so my mother and I go to this thrift store frequently! Brought some really unique things here before. I think because so many different ethnic backgrounds in that area you can find a wild variety of things. I even seen a calculator I need for my business class in that store. Today I scored 25% on a gray item. I got a big glass Pyrex bowl for like $4.25. Love the brand and can't beat the price. I would visit again, however I wish that some of the kitchen items had all the functional pieces. I seen a tea kettle I wanted and it didn't have the base in the store. read more

Yes parking is nuts in this parking lot and it seems like you practically have to fight your way into a space. I've heard people rave about this place so I thought I'd give it a try to see if I could find something rare or unusual. Not impressed walked out with nothing in hand. Yes, they have a massive selection of all sorts of stuff. Housewares, toys, clothing, shoes. The place is huge. As any thrift store shopper will tell you it is very hit and miss. In general when shopping at any thrift store out of every 10 visits only 1 time do I find something that I have to buy. Sale day was crazy, so parking was a pain. Their selection is amazing, given that most of the goodwills are 1/10th this size in the area. However, Goodwills are MUCH cheaper. even on their sale day (50% off) kids stuff was still 1.99-5.99 depending on the item. I like that goodwill has a flat price ($1) for children's stuff up to size 6 and on 50% off days its 50cents. Unique is great, and certainly cheaper than buying brand new, but you can get the same stuff, albeit smaller selection, at goodwill. read more

I will say this place is unique. It is a large scale thrift shop that has everything second hand. It has a large parking lot in a shopping center where many people come to. Turning into this place is rough but it is expected. The facility is well lit, but dusty. Something I kind of expect at a thrift store in a way. It is always crowded also, which means that there is a good rotation of product on the shelf. If you see something you want, you should get it. It probably won't be there the following day. They also provide discounts on certain days of the week, which is pretty awesome. I think it was a membership discount and a day for seniors. The employees were somewhat non-existent on the sales floor and the cashiers are somewhat in their own world, however, they are efficient. I get through the lines quick, but they do get crowded as I said earlier. One thing I do have an issue is the donation process. At one point, I was cleaning up my house to prepare for a move and I brought over a bunch of stuff I would like to donate. The person receiving the donation was very picky as to what I am allowed to donate, going through all the possessions and setting aside some stuff which I assumed was for himself and then set aside stuff for which I think was for the store. Overall, he opened my bags of clothing and left a mess in my car. I am not sure how the process is, however communication would have been important through the whole process instead of having an employee rip through the bags.
