Union House is alright. If you're a new student, I wouldn't get too hyped up for it. Yes, I too have seen those University of Melbourne campus commercials where they talk about how lovely and fancy Union House is.
It's really more a place to go in between classes than a center of student life here (which is pretty much what it's advertised as).
Some restaurants are okay, others aren't.
Sometimes they'll hold events just outside, but nothing too exciting. My events in high school were better, to be honest.
It's crowded and cramped, which makes studying a big no-no.
Overall, I would say that the Union House is a great security blanket for first-years if they have no idea where to go or what to do. But after a bit more experience in Melbourne Uni you'll soon see it as just another passing commodity instead of what it's hyped up to be. read more
