Quite an incredible organization to have serving the Yakima Valley. Everything from medical clinics, to family shelters to a food pantry and asunder that focuses on recycling, they are doing some incredible work and being very innovative about how they're doing it! read more

On 12/01/19 I called UGM to make a donation of living room furniture that was only 6 months old. We set up a time for UGM to come and get it on Thursday 12/05/19, between 12:00 and 15:00. The morning of 12/05/19 I received a call asking if they could come earlier, around 10:00, I said yes. At approximately 12:15 I called UGM to ask if they were still coming? on their way? After approximately 9 minutes on hold, I was told the driver said "the roads were bad" and they were not coming. It was foggy out but the roads were clear. They didn't have the decency to call us. I have donated many things to UGM in the past, that will no longer happen. There are plenty of organizations that would love to have our donations read more

Unfortunately I have found myself at a point in my life (due to an extremely debilitating back injury) were I wound up semi-homeless, living in an older 22 ft Class C RV which is in extremely poor shape... however I thank GOD each and everyday as it is far better than actually being 100% totally homeless, especially when trying to deal with multiple health issues as homelessness would mean certain Death for me. Anyway, I was out taking care of some necessary LEGAL issues when I experienced one of my frequent episodes with my back and it became impossible for me to walk back out to my car, so a store employee and what turned out to be an employee of the Union Gospel Mission both helped me back to my car. After getting to my car the UGM employee stayed and we spoke for sometime, after which I was given a business card and told that "if you ever need any help then don't hesitate and give us a call." I sat the business card aside and went on with my life, thinking nothing of the offer as I've always tried to do for myself and to help others when I was able. After some considerable time went by, I found myself needing help with something that there was no way I could ever do it myself... so I repeatedly kept checking around and once I realized that there was nobody around to help me, that's when I choose to call the UGM and explain what was happening and what I needed help with. After doing this I was told that they would work on it and definitely find someone to help me out... Well, after a few days I received a call from someone related to that person and was asked EXACTLY what it was I needed help with, after which then I was asked how many people did I think it would take to do, then finally I was asked for my address/location. After all of this I was told that I would hear back in 2, no more than 3 days and that they'd get it done for me... Well, that was several months back and it NEVER HAPPENED!!! Now move forwar, I yet again found myself in need of help as I had to MOVE from one hotel to another hotel (after having had Extensive Spinal Fusion Surgery, which required a 12 inch incision along my spine, there was and is NO WAY I COULD STAY IN MY RV TO RECOVER FROM SPINAL SURGERY) so even though I had a previous bad experience with the folks there at the Union Gospel Mission, I'd go ahead and try again as I'm not able to drive. Upon calling I was able to speak with the same person (the sound in her voice was one of UTTER surprise and annoyance towards me for having actually called back again) at which time I explained my situation and position and was told that they'd check with their Congregation in the Church and find someone to help me with the move... and that they'd call me back. Well, surprise... needless to say that neither the help nor any phone call ever came through. So, yet once again I found myself being LIED TO AND BASICALLY NOTHING MORE THAN JUST GETTING STRUNG ALONG LIKE SOME SORT OF SUCKER, WHO OBVIOUSLY TO THEM HAD VERY LITTLE IF NOT 'NONE WHAT SO EVER' My experience with the folks (as I REFUSE to call them people and or human, as real people NEVER TREAT OTHER FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS LIKE THIS a.k.a. like TRASH) there at the UGM as I have had similar experiences with some other 'So-Called' Charity Organizations and Programs has left me with a REAL WORLD UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE, these folks DO NOT DO REAL HELP OR CHARITY WORK... In fact what I believe that they truly do is to put on the occasional 'for camera, broadcast and publication only' event so as to drum up their Donations and by that way they never truly have to do anything meaningful in life... no real charity work, no real jobs... just one BIG CON-JOB to defraud the public as a whole! That's my REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE WITH THEM & IT'S THE LASTING IMPRESSION I HAVE BEEN GIVEN AS THEY HAVE REFUSED ALL OTHER TYPES OF GIVING! I PRAY TO GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF MY LORD and give thanks unto him for his continued blessings upon me along with the knowledge and guidance he has so graciously granted unto me each and everyday and ask that he will continue to guide through this journey so that I may better serve him, we ask these things in Jesus Christ our SAVIORS name AMEN read more

The UGM does outstanding work for people in Yakima experiencing homelessness.

I had an unfortunate experience that lead to me staying at the mission for a 2 week stay. It was a clean bed and storage space. The food was ok depending on the donors. The bathrooms have older styling since it was a motel previously. Just stay far away from the men that live their if you are a woman. Some of them have very negative records. Follow the scheduling and don't make excuses to the staff if you want a better experience. I am so grateful they helped me during my time of need. read more
