I've been here before for lunch and I wasn't really impressed. The food wasn't bad but my waitress was just a little slow but I didn't do a review because I wanted to give them another shot. I finally went back yesterday but I only drank, I didn't order food. I sat at the bar. I was immediately given water but nobody ever came back to ask if I wanted anything else. After a while, I did catch Steve's attention and he took great care of me. I got the canned strawberry mule that I actually really liked. I had been wanting to try Union Assembly for a while, so I made reservations for today, when I had tickets for Blue Man Group at the Fox next door. I didn't know there was a Tigers game today so it was pretty packed downtown. I had made a reservation for 4:15pm though and we got in right away; otherwise it would've been a 45-minute wait. The food here is expensive but overall tasty. My boyfriend and I both got cocktails ($11-14 each, on par for the area) and I had the chicken sandwich with fries ($17). He had a mushroom pasta dish ($27) but proteins such as salmon, chicken, etc were an upcharge. The feta dip and UA bread also sounded great but I forgot my Lactaid in the car (Fox doesn't allow purses) so perhaps I'll try those next time. I was treated to some dinner and a baseball game for my bday (lucky chic) the other day. This place was so "alive" w a dj setting the vibes for the crowd! Love love LOVE the atmosphere so, so much so that we were late to the game and I was fine w that. Our server was so sweet and kind enough to give her opinion on anything we asked about...seeing as how it was our first time here she put in work LOL! I got the white pizza...AMAZING! with a strawberry tincan mule which I highly recommend. My friend had the burger with a salad...all about balance, right?! she loved the burger not a fan of the salad though. She said it was "pretty plain" but I'm sure you can spruce it up if you'd like. When I asked Sakinah for the paper menu, she said it's outdated and that's all they have so, I had someone else order my drinks. As much as it's not Sakinah's fault, it just sucks this is the requirement, especially if you're out using your phone all day and at an event then you come to eat after and your phones at 4% anyhow, drink menu is digital at this time of service. I ordered the hotdog pizza... because.. when can you order a hotdog pizza? They also had swordfish? The menu is really all over the place making it questionable what 'style' of food they might actually specialize in. When I waited ten minutes for my server I went outside and ordered Moms Spaghetti, seen my server smoking (guess that's what she was so short and in a hurry for) Drinks: f'n amazing drinks. Garnished great, alcohol was not overbearing but well for the price (which was reasonable) $10-15 I got the sidecar and the pain killer. Service: This is where it took nearly all stars away. I couldn't finish a full sentence without the waitress just walking away before I finished. We are already big fans of the Union joints, Assembly being the newest member of the group. Prime location across from Comerica Park and Fox Theater and walking distance to Ford Field and LCA. Of course, parking is always an issue in downtown so be prepared to pay pretty much anywhere you park. We have eaten here twice now. Once before a Lions game and once before a concert at LCA. The first time we sat at the bar and the service was lackluster as the bartenders were slammed with all the drunken Lion fans! But the food was tasty from the brunch menu. For dinner we sat in what they refer to as bistro seats. I don't recommend those seats if you're over 40, you will be in pain! It's basically seating in the front window and there's no chairs or back support. Lesson learned. Our service was good and food was great as well. We had the baseline burger and chicken sandwich. Came here right before a concert at the Fillmore, wasn't going to stay because it looked pretty crowded but was able to get seats at the bar quickly. This place is a great starting point when coming downtown, there is plenty of garage or lot parking close by. Once seated at the bar we were immediately given water and the scanable menu. I ordered a margarita with a salt rim and it was very good! I ordered the wings and the collard greens.My daughter got a pizza(I forgot the name but it looked healthy) and she got the fries with dip. All of our food was good, served in a nice timely matter and was hot. This is the not the place for a quiet intimate meal, there was a mixed crowd of young and old. All of the staff that I encountered was pleasant especially Gail the hostess, she maintained a smile despite how mean some customers were demanding a table. The food was good, service was great, and the vibe of the restaurant was very cool. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The salmon dip was creamy and tasted good. The chips are homemade and delicious. The pizza crust was perfect, nice and crunch yet soft still. I'd order the white pizza again, but with extra lemon vinaigrette on it. Went to Union Assembly with the grandkids before the Tiger's game. There was about a 10/15 minute wait. The host were kind and helpful. Our server name was Emma, she was super cute and friendly. New restaurant alert! Located in the adorable Columbia Street across from the ballpark. There is parking behind the FOX theatre available or in front of Comerica Park. Great cocktails and food options- I wish they had more beer options on tap but everything else makes up for it. I love the vibe- a lot of seating and great date night spot. All of my friends raved about the food they ordered (perch sandwich, Reuben sandwich, pizza). My boyfriend and I split the Fried chicken sliders (3 are included) and Fries and Dips- so good! We got a pepperoni pizza, spaghetti for the kid, a french fry platter and the fried chicken sliders. Chicken sliders and the dips for the fries were the winners for us here. The food was great, but a little bit expensive... I had an $8 coney dog (though I admit it had above average ingredients) and the burgers were $18 and up. $16 sausage, $19 Reuben... you get my drift. I had bourbon pork glazed ribs as well and there were plenty of them. I think I counted six, so that was pretty generous in my eyes and they were good. The drinks were okay... I had a couple and nothing blew my socks off, and I couldn't really find a drink on the menu to get excited about but the drink prices were fair... nothing above $13. Went here for dinner on Saturday night with a group of friends. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away without a reservation. I would suggest getting a reservation for a larger group, but the restaurant is massive and I don't think there would be much of wait for smaller groups at most times. Overall, the restaurant had great vibes. The food however was nothing too noteworthy. I ordered the Simone Collins which was beautifully created, but didn't taste like anything special. This was disappointing because the description of the drink sounded enticing and creative, but it didn't meet these expectations at all. For dinner I had the Mac Melt. The sandwich was tasty but it was supposed to have shiitake bacon and I couldn't taste that at all. My friend ordered a pizza which was a pretty average Detroit style pizza but was far too pricey for what it was. I'd say the best part of our meals was the French fries that I dipped in triple pepper aioli. They were perfect. We tried this place because it had a fun looking atmosphere from pics online and because their menu had items our picky kids would eat. Our server was pretty good, but I did see a lot of servers clustered around just chit chatting while other customers were trying to get their attention and get service. I have no complaints about our server. The wait time for a cheese pizza off the kids menu was absurd. Granted, we ordered it after we ordered our other food. Naturally it was going to take a little longer. It took more than a little longer, however. We were all done with our food by the time the cheese pizza for our son arrived, so we had to box it up and take it home with us. Meaning he did not get to eat anything at all. As far as my food goes, I got The White pizza. It was just ok, but it cost $17 and the kids cheese pizza was $8. Now, I understand this white pizza comes with other toppings and ricotta, but my white pizza and my son's cheese pizza were exactly the same size. Four large deep dish squares. The upcharge there is a little insane considering both pizzas are exactly the same size. For my money, if I'm looking to have a ricotta pizza in Detroit, I'm going to Mootz for the Fungi pizza because they do it way better. The fries were outstanding though. The thing about this restaurant group is their food is always fairly consistent. First off, Union Assembly is in a fantastic location across from the ballpark and next to the Fox Theater as well as short walking distance to Little Caesars Arena. The ambiance is fun with a slight retro feel. As I mentioned, the food (especially their signature Mac and cheese dish) is the same and it's delicious. Their spin on a Detroit Style pizza was a little less dense than the original Detroit Style (which I don't mind either way), but still had that buttery crust and crispy edges. The pizzas are on the smaller side but if you are sharing other dishes, it absolutely works. Do not leave without checking out the upstairs outdoor patio. Averaging a good visit and a terrible one. Wish I could give them more stars, but the service and lack of communication was poor last visit. Location is excellent for this spot. Park in lots, street, wherever you can. There is a huge bar downstairs and many tables. I would HIGHLY recommend reservations on a weekend. Otherwise, you will wait forever and far longer than the hostess tells you. We had four people in our party and put our names in at 5:15 on a Saturday. We were told 30-35 minutes and said no problem and sat on the benches to wait. Bar was full, tables were not. We guess it's a staffing issue. I get that. Number people came in the front door over the next hour. Yes, hour. They all funneled into the restaurant and either were sat (reservations I'm assuming) or found some where to sit. We kept noticing one of the four hostesses was pointing upstairs and telling people to go up there. So after and hour of waiting and no table in sight, I took a field trip upstairs to find there are two more levels. There is a HUGE area on the top floor including outdoor patios. By the time we realized this (since we were never told), the place was full and there was nowhere to sit. When we were finally seated well after an hour of waiting, we were sat upstairs. Service was slow. They are obviously short staffed or unorganized. Not sure if one of both. Our four cocktails were all very sweet (even the old fashioned). They are very heavy handed with simply syrup. Food was okay. Soup was cold, salad was over dressed and greasy. Our friends had Detroit style pizza which had no sauce. Like none. Half baked bread and cheese. Detroit is FULL of great restaurants and bars, this isn't one I'll visit again. read more

As soon as you enter Union Assembly, you'll be jammin because the playlist is a vibe - Usher, Britney Spears, Destiny's Child, Pink, Brandy & Monica just to make a few! Located right across from Comerica Park where the Tigers play so dining he is convenient for a before or after game nosh. With that said, I felt like some menu items were a lil pricey (although nothing outrageous) but given the location, I'm sure overhead is high. And the almost outdoor seating (meaning there are large open windows with views of Woodward & Comerica Park) is such a pretty scenic view. As for the food - twas good! I tried the Fried Chicken Sliders which is a Yelp popular item and they measured up; however, placing the chicken on a King's Hawaiian Roll would have really set it off! The Triple Pepper Buffalo Wings were yum and the Baseline Burger was good too - add bacon to the burger to make it extra scrumptious. We didn't order drinks but from looking around at other tables, they seemed to have a cute cocktail menu. Spontaneous trip to Detroit last night to see Nurse Blake. Spotted this gem of a restaurant and walked right in and got a table in the window seats facing Comerica Park. Our server Grant was an absolute doll, he looks like a young version of Prince! His recommendations were fantastic. We had the Union fries with the 3 dipping sauces. The pepperoni pizza to share, so good! The pepperoni cups make the dish. I had the stuffed green pepper soup. Seriously, the best I have ever had. It had chunks of roast beef. The smashed burger was also on point as was the grilled chicken Cesar wrap. Which, I never order because it seems to basic and safe . The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the bathroom. It was insane with wall paper on the ceiling, vertigoesque tiles in the floor and wall and more wallpaper in another pattern. I'm really sad. Things have just really gone downhill since my last review. Things are really hit and miss here so I can't in good conscience leave a five star rating; this last time was really the last straw. The food was really not good. Terrible burger. Drink came after dinner was over. And it was really disgusting--clearly missing ingredients. Worst of all they served me a beer with gluten, which they told me was gluten free. And this was after I informed them of an allergy. Celiacs beware!! You can't trust what they say or print on the menu.
