Honestly, organized chaos here. I think there is 2-3 floors worth of merchandise. It honestly gave…read moreoff vibes of a Burlington. From the moment I walked in I personally was a little overwhelmed. The name Nordstrom leads me to expect a certain vibe, this did not hit that. The shoe area is a good size, but tiny aisles. It was pretty organized. There is some areas to sit, but not enough. There were people sitting on the floor. There were many racks throughout. There is lots of departments like kids, mens, womens, shoes, bags, suitcases and much more. There is a lot to sift through. The pricing was in my opinion a little high. I can find items one sale, cheaper especially with a coupon. I am sure I made a face at some of the pricing like, "Um really. You want that much for that?" The staff were ok. I had one who tried to help, but he was new so he was unsure on the answer. I ended up not staying too long. I was just there for shoes, and walked out empty handed.

The store representative was kind at check out and answered questions regarding return policy of non-clearance items.

TLDR: Fantastic help from Lindsay, but disappointed with the rest of the sales associates…read more I visited recently to purchase a coat and was surprised how difficult it was to get assistance. Several associates passed by without acknowledging me or offering help. Thankfully, Lindsay stepped in and turned the experience around. She was personable, attentive, and genuinely helpful. She took the time to pull different options, make thoughtful suggestions, and never made me feel rushed or pressured. Her patience and professionalism are exactly what you hope for when visiting a store like this. She's the reason I stayed, and the reason I'll consider coming back. If you visit, I highly recommend seeking out Lindsay--you'll be in great hands. I just hope the rest of the team steps up to the level of service she provided.

I had not passed by since before the pandemic so it's definitely been a while for me, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the array of upscale offerings here in Center City. It was mostly accessories that would appeal to me, since unlike Saks Fifth Avenue, they do not have a plus size section aka anything north of a size 10 in clothing. But their handbags and their shoes were as beautiful as they come. If you're looking for anything from Victoria Beckham, I think this might be the one place in Philadelphia to find her dresses. But the store gets props for featuring a handmade cashmere and mohair sweater line that was simply dazzling! I was inspired enough that I will return!

I love Target, and the Chestnut Street Philadelphia location is a prime example of how a major…read moreretail brand can adapt to city living without losing what makes it great. I grew up visiting Target in the suburbs, so discovering this location in Philadelphia immediately felt familiar. It maintains the brand's accessibility and comfort while smartly adapting to city life. The store is consistently clean, bright, organized, and well-stocked. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grocery selection is genuinely fresh, and the overall experience feels thoughtful and efficient. What Target does especially well is discernment. The product mix feels curated rather than crowded, with a smart balance of affordability, quality, and style across groceries, home goods, essentials, and private-label products. Their app also stands out, particularly the real-time inventory tools that make pickup and delivery seamless. More broadly, Target is one of the few major retailers that has preserved the strengths of brick-and-mortar shopping while still evolving for modern life. I suspect part of that comes from the company's Minnesota roots and the strong Scandinavian influence embedded in the culture there. You can feel it in the stores: clean layouts, restrained design, thoughtful presentation, efficiency paired with warmth, and an emphasis on functionality without sacrificing quality. It stands apart from most big-box retail in America. The Chestnut Street location embodies that philosophy perfectly. Similar to what brands like Barnes & Noble and Bloomingdale's have done with their urban stores, Target has adapted away from oversized suburban formats in certain city environments without sacrificing the core experience. The nearby location by the Barnes Foundation is excellent as well. It's larger than the Chestnut Street store but not a sprawling mega store, making it especially well-suited for city living while still offering a broader inventory and the convenience of free parking. Both locations feel like thoughtful adaptations of the traditional suburban retail model rather than watered-down versions. As parents, we've also been consistently impressed by Target's private-label products. Their diapers, formula, yogurt pouches, peanut butter, dairy products, pasta, and other everyday essentials have all been of excellent quality at prices meaningfully lower than those of many national brands. Target's Philadelphia stores demonstrate how thoughtful, adaptable retail can succeed in urban environments while preserving the core values that built customer loyalty in the first place. Highly recommended!

That being said, I've come in here a few times now, to find some board games and puzzles, another time to find some towels, and another time for some gift exchange gifts, and haven't had too much issue getting in and out with what I need. I go through self-checkout and don't really engage with staff to find what I need-- tends to be self-explanatory when you follow the signs around and they have the kiosks where you can search in-store now too. For immediate purchases, probably the best place at the best price point to look for things in the city. But if you have some time and the means, best to head to NJ for somewhere that's more pleasant to shop at.

A kind team associate directed me to the center just before groceries for shampoo, lotion, etc. I then needed some paper goods where "Charles" was so kind and helpful while stocking items. The store set up has changed in the back but a team member was always within sight for assistance. Many things are of great value. But 4 dish towels for $10 and $20 batteries were not in the budget. Oh, you may want to take your cart for a spin before loading items because my cart grew a personality of its own. I was moving my cart like the Red Bull Sales Rep. Turning the corner like a wide load because the wheels did not have coffee. "I was struggling with the cart along with 3 other customers I encountered. Ms Annette at checkout is a gem as always!
