I'm an oldies/60's/classic rock kind of girl (always have been, never cared for modern music) so…read morequite obviously when we visited SLC we had to hit up some antique stores, because I'm a hippie at heart and love collecting old things. Capital City Antique Mall came up in my search (well there was another but they are closed on Tuesdays), and I was very pleased to find that they were in a large warehouse with plenty of vendors. That just means tons of cool stuff to scour through! And indeed there was plenty of artifacts and fun finds to take my time perusing! There were a few items that I wanted but couldn't purchase for the sake of space or other reasons, but they were absolutely beautiful. The photos I've shared below are only scratching the surface of the gamut of items that you can find at the antique mall. I ended up purchasing some small items to add to my shelf of collectibles at home, including my very first glass insulator. The staff are nice and everything is quite reasonably priced compared to CA antique stores. We will definitely be revisiting Capital City Antique Mall the next time we are in SLC!

It's such a joy to wander around here and explore their vintage clothing, jewelry, knick knacks, and nearly anything you can dream of - all at an affordable price. Not only do they sell antique items, but I spotted some displays of locally crafted earrings and newer items in awesome condition. I come here to find a unique gift for special loved ones and always leave with more than what I was looking for. The employees are super friendly, which is a huge bonus. If you're looking for a fun and interesting date idea, take your date to Capital City and you won't be disappointed!

He delivered, put together and even helped me pick the perfect location. Have been looking for two solid years. Could not be happier with the service and ease of buying. Tl;Dr: A purchase at this store was a giant headache. The store owner is a very poor communicator…read moreand did not honor the original agreement despite repeated requests to do so. I won't return. This turned out to be such a strange interaction with Urban Vintage. I bought a lamp ($300) and was told when I purchased it that rewiring and new hardware (harp) were included if I wanted that. (See original review). I definitely did want that as the cord and the hardware were quite aged, unsightly and somewhat corroded. I left the purchased lamp at the store and waited for the work to be done. A few weeks later I received a text from the owner, Brett, who then called me to argue that a 40 year old lamp doesn't require rewiring. He spent 5 whole minutes explaining how the technology is the same today as 40 years ago and then asked if I still want the wiring replaced, to which I replied yes. He then told me it will be $50+ to replace the harp hardware and asked if I plan to use the existing shade (which the lamp did not have when I was in the store at the time of purchase) or if I would need a different size harp for a different shade size. I didn't need a shade and didn't know one was included when I purchased the lamp since it didn't have a shade on it at the time, so I asked if I could get a discount on the harp replacement (that I was originally told was included). I asked this question three times and Brett never answered my question. All he would say is that the price of the lamp is the same whether I take the shade or not and that I can choose the harp size I need when I come pick up the lamp. When I went back to the store to pick up the lamp, Brett told me that they had already chosen the right harp size and placed it on the lamp and it should not be changed and that I should not use a different size shade. I then asked how he determined that and he said it's based on the shade size, removed the existing shade and turned it on its side and said the diameter of the shade should be the same height as the lamp. But the shade was 4 inches shorter than the lamp. Oops. So then I asked why he's included a shade with the lamp that's too small based on his own explanation. He then went in to an elaborate explanation using an example of another lamp in the store from the Netherlands with a mini pleated shade from the 1980s as an example of how it's all just an artistic expression based on his lamp expertise and I should just trust him. This was the most convoluted and unnecessarily complex interaction to avoid any further discussion on changing the harp size that he had previously asked me to choose a size for, that I had previously been told I could customize, for the original price of the lamp, which again, was $300. I paid the additional $56 for the harp that was chosen for me, and got out of there. Needless to say, I won't be a repeat customer.

The prices here are better than online and half of what you pay in other major cities. What makes this place Golden is the community and dialogue created by the owner. They haven't just curated a collection of museum quality pieces, they've also curated a community of people with an emphasis on "Keep it in Utah". It's a business model that leaves some sellers scratching their heads because collectors know that if this shop was in Seattle or San Francisco or NYC or Chicago or LA...with these prices? The Store would be emptied in a few Days. That's not hyperbole, THATS. A. FACT. This place isn't a "let's find old stuff to sell for the highest price" kinda place. Its owner is a deeply passionate, intensely kind, Devoted to preserving Utah's history, and a wildly intelligent Human being. The store is their love letter to a city they love. I can't stress how rare and wonderful this store is. I've shopped the internet, the major cities, (many small cities too)...this store has no equal. It is the BEST furniture store in Utah BY A COUNTRY MILE!
