Every time I've been to Under Bron, I've wanted it to be great. They've always lured me there by the music -- great names and techno acts from all around the world that don't tend to play anywhere else in Stockholm. That is why they get my two stars.
But what kills it for me every time is the crowd. It's about as homogenous as they come: heterosexual, white, between 18 and 25, frequently totally uninterested in the music. Lots of tourists. They are just there for the party, which could be any party. This is obviously *the* place to be for anyone of that description out drinking with their friends. Bummer. And they come in droves.
The first few times I went there I loved it, I think because I went on weeknights and it was uncrowded. It reminded me of clubs in Berlin or something, and I felt like it had a lot of potential. The other times I've been it was on the weekends and it's been too crowded. It felt too small, even claustrophobic. The personel are not pleasant and I have always felt relieved to leave the place.
My main gripe above all this though is how horrible an environment it is for a woman alone to simply go see music. The last time I went there (and I intend to never go back) was to see Sleeparchive. I was mercilessly hit on by men all night; I could barely stand for two minutes before some lone dude would come up and ask me why I wasn't dancing, or if I had a boyfriend, etc. It was a straight-up meat market. I'm pretty sure if you had asked any of these dudes "do you know who's playing?" they would have had no clue. They were obviously not there for the music.
The nail in the coffin? I wrote to one of the club organizers to complain about my experience and was met with indifference. I was told to tell the guards about the dudes. It's like come on, am I supposed to spend all night reporting people to guards? My feeling is that they are putting their heads in the sand about these issues. read more
