I've never been a huge fan of chain restaurants and more often than not, it's because of the convenience. This Mexican spot is located inside the mall. Their complimentary chips & salsa are worth a mention all its own. They are extremely additive, lightly fried, super crispy, delicate and I couldn't stop munching on them. I've never seen such thin chips before and that's what sets these apart from others. They gave us two baskets & three dips. My companions loved the sizzling shrimp & bacon app. I'm not a fan of bacon (I know you must be gasping) but it was nicely served. Having not had much experience with enchiladas, the chicken one I ordered disappointed me a bit. It was served warm, I would have prefer it to be piping hot. It stated that it was shredded chicken, it was cubed, kind of dry & bland. My son had the Fajita Skirt Steak and he gave it a thumbs up. I would have loved to end the meal with their Sopapillas (similar to beignets) but I was headed to Lululemon. Gotta fit into those yoga pants. Maybe next time. Our waiter was extremely attentive. Let me start by saying our server was great; attentive and personable, so this not a reflection on him. That said, I would never recommend this restaurant. It started off bad when our water was served at room temperature, which I found odd. I ordered a steak fajita bowl and I should have gone to Taco Bell for a better tasting bowl for a quarter of the price. Not only did it take forever to arrive but when it was delivered to me the girl put the piping hot bowl in my hands without warning - ouch. It was missing 2 of the ingredients that were listed on the menu and I could barely find any steak. I was too hungry to wait for someone and at that point I just wanted to eat and leave so that's what we did. Taste was average, maybe it would have tasted better if it had been made as advertised. If I were to go back I would stick with just drinks and maybe apps. read more

The food here is very good and well-prepared. If you order the soft ones, stick with two tacos as they are HUGE! The service was outstanding on our visit. The only knock I have is on the salsa. Been there a few times and I LOVE Mexican food. But, I think this place is all about huge portions for high prices. The food is nothing special; you can get much better Mexican food in the area for a lot less money. And, the big complaint for me is that the service is abysmal! My wife and I were at the Bridgewater Commons Mall returning some items and decided to try Uncle Julio's for lunch. We began with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are thinner, lighter and less salty than chips we've had at Jose Tejas, Chipotle or Moe's. The salsa was unlike other salsas. It was more watery than we expected. My wife ordered the enchiladas (2 instead of 3) while I had the filet mignon fajitas. Both entrees were more than we could eat so we had plenty leftover to eat another day. Because of COVID, paying the check was an interesting experience. They bring out a tablet the same size as the usual check fold. You swipe/dip your card, choose tip amount and email yourself the receipt. No more waiting for the wait staff to bring back your card. Overwhelmed staff = slow service & undercooked food. Management: DO BETTER I typically like Uncle Julio's food. The last 2 times I've been to this location have been an absolute disaster. The last time, the service was extremely slow (15 minutes to even see our waiter, 30 minutes before we got drinks/chips/salsa, 1 hour before we got our guacamole, 1.5 hours before we got our food) then when we got our food, my shrimp was raw and cold. We thought maybe just an off night. The next time we went, same exact experience. Our servers have been very nice, but I think it is just extremely understaffed. I wish they would seat less people or do reservations only, so they can control capacity and provide a better experience for their staff and their guests. Very disappointing experience. Went for a birthday celebration to sit at the bar. Maybe 2 other couples at the bar and not a single clean area to sit at. Same with the tables, dirty with plates and no people. We asked the bartender for someplace to sit and were met with a shrug and an attitude. This was my first time at any of the Uncle Julio locations. I up with a few friends here for dinner on Friday night and it was quite packed at 7 pm with indoor and outdoor seating available. We had a reservation and were immediately sat. Our server was great- probably the best part of our dining experience. As a group of mainly vegetarians, he was very mindful and accommodating. And even went to confirm which items were vegetarian. We were given chips and salsa to start off with and we enjoyed the pre-appetizer snack because who doesn't enjoy some good chips and salsa? We started out with the chili queso and made to order guacamole. The small size queso is very small- probably less than a cup. It tasted like Velveeta and Rotel (and also looked like it). While I enjoy Velveeta at home, I expect something more than "plastic cheese" from a restaurant. The guacamole was okay, it was lacking in a bit of salt, but that's a personal preference. For the price we paid for extra ingredients, it still only tastes like eating plain avocados. Our table got a mix of enchiladas, fajitas and taco salad. I personally got the vegetarian taco salad. There was nothing wrong with my salad but there was nothing special about it either. It tasted like something I would be able to make at home- lettuce, tomatoes, black beans and shedded cheddar cheese with ranch dressing and topped with avocado. The most interesting part of our dinner happened when we ordered dessert (more on that later). Our server asked the lady who was clearing off tables to clear our plates for dessert. They have people with carts maneuvering through the restaurant clearing tables. My friend and I who were sitting at the ends of the table must have been clipped with the cart a total of 10 times during dinner. When we asked the lady clearing off table to keep our drinks she turned around to the kitchen exclaiming that the server told him to clear the table and we're saying no. We explained once again that she can take our plates but would like to keep our drinks. She gathered our plates and was condensing all the food and leftovers at the table for 5 mins. Twice she threw her hands in the air and was like "Urgh!" It created an awkward moment for us. Maybe she was having a rough day? Maybe this wasn't the right industry/job for her? We'll never know. For dessert we got the famous chocolate piñata. To be honest this is more about the experience than the taste. While the chocolate was piñata portion was nice, the contents left much to be desired. The pineapples were sour, the strawberries didn't taste fresh and the churros were stale (I obviously wouldn't expect them to be hot since they were inside a chocolate shell). For $33 we had a good time with it so it wasn't a waste. Overall, I would give it 2.5 stars and rounding up to a 3 because of how kind our server was. read more

When arriving, we put our name down for a 25 min wait as our party had 8. This was for patio dining and they don't take reservations. You can scan the QR code at the host's podium for the menu. After sitting down, our waitress quickly took our drink orders: Julio's Gold margaritas and Mango Passion fruit lemonades. The margaritas were very good. They put the salt on one side so you don't have to lick all around the glass. Unfortunately, the lemonade was bland. There are bits of mango but the passion fruit was nonexistent both in flavor or pulp. We got the guacamole to share and it was good as well, though I wish there were more fresh limes. They also brought out a roasted tomato salsa and thin tortilla chips. A few of us ordered the fajitas skirt steaks for 2 and the meat was very tender. It comes with all the fixings on the side: a plate of guac, sour cream, salsa, chopped lettuce and tomatoes, and a plate of red rice and beans, and of course warm tortillas. Very filling for lunch. This restaurant is located right in the mall, next to Cheesecake Factory. It has a great outside seating area. Love they they offer chips and salsa but wasn't crazy about the salsa. It's really Smokey which is different but not my preference. The chips were great. I ordered a cup of spicy queso which was actually pretty delicious. For my entree, I ordered chicken enchiladas which were pretty simple but the sauce was good. The best part was the rice that comes with the meal (along with beans). We got margaritas as our drinks which were good but not strong but in the happy hour menu. Their happy hour runs from 3-6 but only has two drink specials and no food items at all, which deducted a star for me. This is the second time eating at Uncle Julio's. Both times I got the chicken fajita. We were served chips and salsa. The chips were thin, crispy and fresh. The salsa was also tasty. The chicken was grilled and charred perfectly. It was tender and juicy. The flour tortillas were also soft, warm and perfect. I was offered rice and beans (comes with the fajitas) and I told my waiter I was trying to avoid beans and he brought over a plate of rice. The rice was fluffy and moist, well seasoned. It is probably the best rice I've ever had whenever I order rice at a Mexican place. The waiter was attentive, came over to the table to make sure our order came out right, he kept an eye on our drinks and brought over more when requested. Overall I'm pleased with the quality of the food, the level of service and attention by the waiter. And oh by the way, we went on a Saturday night, February 22, 2025 at 6:00PM. Our server was wonderful but everything else was awful. Our party of ten was seated in an inside alcove which was very warm. Not sure why the AC couldn't be turned up. The food delivery from the kitchen was very, very slow and when the food finally arrived it was pretty bland and was served at room temperature. If I wasn't part of a group my husband and I would have left. Waiting nearly an hour for our food isn't acceptable. I noticed more positive reviews in years past, I wonder if the issues we encountered were the result of current staffing shortages, turnover in the kitchen and economic pressures resulting from the pandemic. Food took forever and when it finally came out, my steak was pink and raw, my husbands taco were not cooked through, and my daughters "kids fajitas" were 3 chunks of chicken, hard chunks of refried beans... and my 6 year old's kidsadillas NEVER CAME OUT. We asked for a manager, manager was MIA, hostess tried telling me that there's an IT issue. Come on, I'm a former waitress and IT issues don't cause uncooked food. My one advice: go to Uncle Julio's hungry because you will get a lot of food here. My favorite part of Mexican restaurants are usually the free chips and salsa and the ones given here do not disappoint. They give A LOT of chips -- their salsa could be a little bigger based off of the amount of free chips they give but I was surprised at the big basket of chips we were given right as we were immediately seated. Anyways, I can go in forever about the thin and crispy chips from here but I won't! The chips filled me up a bit too quickly so instead of going for my usual fajita dish I went for something smaller -- the grilled fish tacos, which were so yummy! They really stuffed it with tilapia which was nice because most people are scarce with meat and give a bunch of veggies instead. The only gripe is I wish they added more of the avocado sauce because I barely tasted it in my tacos! Either way I was a huge fan of this dinner and I'll be back! Oh and if you can handle spicy definitely try their new habanero honey shrimps -- it's fiery and your mouth will be begging for some milk to calm it down but it is so amazing and worth the suffering. read more
