Ultimate Electric is quite possibly the worst company I have ever worked with in any capacity. We contacted them in April of 2019 to purchase a new backup generator, install it, and provide monthly service. They recommended a generator for our off-grid system and we ended up buying the one they recommended from Lowes rather than through them due to $1000 lower shipping cost. However, we did still contract with them to install the generator and were assured we could get on a monthly maintenance schedule. In June, when the generator was delivered (at a date we knew and had communicated to them in advance), we called and emailed them for weeks and they did not come to install until the end of July. When they installed, everything worked perfectly, but two weeks later, the generator stopped working and of course we called them right away to come out and fix it. Meanwhile, they had just sent us the bill for the install which we hadn't paid yet and said that they would not come out to fix the install until we paid the bill. We were happy to pay the bill for the install, and said we would pay cash in hand when they came to fix it. Due to them not responding to calls or emails for months on the initial install, we were afraid that if we paid the bill, they would never come back and actually make the generator work. (As an aside, Ultimate offers a guarantee that "if our repair or installation fails in the first year, we will repair it free of charge." After a lot of back and forth with weeks and sometimes months between responding to our texts, calls and emails, in October of 2019, through a lot of googling and calling the generator company, we were able to fix it ourselves. Then, come April of 2020, the generator breaks again, and this time it is something that we definitely cannot fix ourselves. The generator is still under warranty through the company (which Ultimate is an approved technician for), and they tell us to contact Ultimate to get it fixed. After a few weeks of back-and-forth with Ultimate, they say they will come out and fix the generator only if we pay the bill for the improper install they did back in July. Because we had no other choice, we paid the bill and scheduled the maintenance. They came out to look at it, and then told us it would be over $1000 to fix. The problems with the generator should be covered under the warranty as well as THEIR warranty that they promise on their website as it was still in the first year. However, they refused to work on the generator under their warranty, so we called the company and tried to get it paid for that way. Which leads me to why Ultimate is the worst company we have ever worked with - the generator they recommended to us and planned to sell us was unbeknownst to us, not the correct generator for our system (which they should have known as an authorized retailer and installer of these generators). Because of that, when they installed it on our system, they voided the company's warranty on the generator. And the cost to repair will be more than half of the price of a new generator, so now we have to buy a completely new generator and pay for that to be installed. We will, of course, be using a different company. If you have any possible choice of working with a different company than Ultimate, I strongly urge you to do so. They truly are the absolute worst. read more

I wanted under cabinet lighting and had bought the store stickons at home depot, but they kept falling off and needing batteries. Ultimate Electric in located in Kailua Kona, it's a young but great company to have complete electrical work done. The owners, Danny and Pete are full of integrity, personable and genuine. They are attentive to their customers project(s) and will help negotiate their customers wants, needs and plans to fulfill any electrical work and will also give expert advice. I feel that they will go out of their way to help residential, commercial or industrial customers acheive their purpose. They will give their expert input after they have listened to the customers electrical project(s). In my experience with Ultimate Electric, they have fulfilled all the work they said that they would do and they are up front about costs of the project(s) and will keep their customers up to date of any changes from the county or Hawaii Electric. I found them through Home Advisor. I've contacted a few electrical companies on Big Island with and without the help of Home Advisor website. I settled on four companies but decided on Ultimate Electric after I had spoken and inquired quotes from other electrical companies. Their quote for the project was lower than other companies but that was not the only reason why I chose them as I usually choose a bid that is in between and with an established company. I chose Ultimate Electric after speaking with Pete on the phone and with Danny in person. I have a background in electrical utility construction as well as residential and commercial. I have worked on crews and with crews of various trades. I've also worked with engineers and inspectors. I have worked for an electrical utility (Seattle City Light) of the City of Seattle. I've worked in the three phases of electrical power... in generation, transmission and distribution as an electrical helper, apprentice and electrician constructor so I'm quite familiar with the different aspects of electrical work, whether it be inside of the powerhouses, underground or overhead. I've also worked for IBEW 77. Danny and Pete were always prompt in meeting with me and answering my phone calls. They are so personable that they have taken my wife and I out for lunch twice. To me, this is how important customers are to them because they wanted to get to know their customers as well as their customers wanted to know them. Danny and Pete have always made us feel valued as customers. The project that we had was to upgrade from a 100 amp service panel to 200 amps, plus the need to remove Hawaii Electric's large junction box from the middle of our back yard which the developer should have never located it on private property. Our home was new when we started the permit process, being a two story residential home. Hawaii Electric gave me a newly appointed electrical inspector for my project. Hawaii county approved the project fairly fast but Hawaii Electric held up the permit for two year without any changes to the original permit that Pete had drawn an put in for. With the persistence from Pete, the inspector finally approved the permit. Danny and his apprentice were prompt and completed the electrical project in less time than was projected with quality work. Although we didn't remove the Hawaii Electric utility box because of the costs of running a new underground line, we were allowed to break up and cover the utility box. Ultimate Electric is my go to company for electrical work on Big Island. Although they are working on a large project at a Hilo hospital during the time of this review, they have made time to come to our residence to help us with the electrical work on our new swimming pool project. I'll have to see if I am able to upload photos of the work that they have done. Ultimate Electric trains people in this career to become quality electricians. Ultimate Electric may be a small company and have been on Big Island a few years but they are truly a genuine and personable company that is full of integrity and values their customers as they go the "extra mile" for them. The lights can be set to turn on and off at your preferred time and best of all, THEY CHANGE COLORS! At Christmas we set them to fade from red to green; other times they fade in and out with rainbow colors, and you can even create your own colors.
