So I don't always plan which movie I'm going to watch before to head up there, I know the choice will be satisfying. During the weekdays, there are usually not a lot of people, so you can feel like home, almost alone with your film. But even in evenings on weekends, there are often many empty seats and you are not stuck in an uncomfortable seat if you arrive during the commercials. If you could sometimes go to the grocery store of Confluence, Carrefour, you might get cinema seats for 5 euros instead of the normal price. I don't give it 5 stars because of the prices of the food and drink. Even if it's similar in every cinema, it's too much.

I was however extremely astonished by the amount of ads they showed before the movie. It was supposed to start at 8:15pm but it didn't start before 8:45pm.. 30 minutes of ads! I think it's fine to show some ads but they're really pushing it too far.

We walked by and saw that the new Superman movie was playing. We just went to go look at the…read moretheater and saw that they were playing the original with French subtitles. So we thought, "what the heck!" Plus the fact that it was hot and the lobby was relatively cool, so we went. You pay, then give your ticket to another person who directs you to your theater. Once we sat down and looked around, it's a nice theater. It AC was strong and it felt good just to sit down. For this movie, there was about 20 minutes of ads and previews. Once the lights went down, it was dark. The movie was great and we were the only ones laughing at the tongue and cheek jokes. I forgot the rest had to read the subtitles. Here's what I really liked when it ended. There is an employee at the theater entrance directing everyone to the exits, and not allowing anyone to go past. This takes care of the ones who go to watch another movie. America should do the same! We enjoyed it so much, we went again for World War Z, paid $1 each for our 3D glasses, which we got to keep. Again, America is so behind! LOL! One thing I didn't like was the popcorn is pre-popped and came in a huge plastic bag. Other than that, I'd come back and watch a movie again!

No ID, no child rate. Give me a break. This is a French monopoly who charges whopping rates for adults, earned 206.9 million euros in 2013, has no competition and "asks" for confirmation of a kids age in order to save a euro or 2? Wholly bejesus, they will no longer see any of my business. I can certainly wait until the film comes out either on pirate download or DVD, but I will not give my money anymore to these cheap fools.

Disclaimer: It's been 7 years since I've been to Lyon. So plenty may have changed in that time…read more I visited the Lyon Opera twice. Once for the tour of the opera house and once for the performance of Falstaff. The tour was excellent. I attended the one given in English, to the dismay of my professor. The tour takes you throughout the opera house, explaining the history of the building, the unique architecture, and the companies that use it. The building is an interesting blend of classic and modern. The performance space is actually suspended from the ceiling for optimal acoustics, since connecting to the foundation would have left is susceptible to the vibrations from the metro that goes almost directly underneath. One of the highlights of the tour is seeing the ballet practice studio at the top, with it's amazing light and views of the city. I would check the website for time and cost. I believe it was free or there was only a minimal fee (we were college students, after all, so it's not like we could spend a lot). The performance of Falstaff (by Verdi) was great. They do have supertitIes (in French, obviously), so that you can follow along. I particularly like that OdL had full versions of the libretto printed with the Italian on one side and the French on the other for 5€, since I'm nerdy enough to want to follow along. The little orange light that is on the back of each seat (and in front of each seat) shed just enough for me to glance at the copy during the performance, comparing the Italian and French. Then again, I prefer French and Italian operas to German operas, and I might not have been so intrigued had it been a German opera. Tickets were reasonably priced for decent seat (again, we were college students). During intermission, the refreshments for sale are in one of the older portions of the building that overlooks the Place des Terreaux. Great views, and of course, much better wines than what we're used to drinking and our performing arts centers in Atlanta. #Yelp365 - 182/365
