So - surprise! - I was up for twice the cost. What could I do, with two holes now waiting to be filled in my lower right jaw, but hand over my debit card, grin and bear it? A few weeks later, the two crowns were duly installed, and I was promised at least "fifteen to twenty years" of good use out of them, provided I didn't do anything foolish. As it happened, the first one fell out within eighteen months - while I was brushing my teeth! - and the second popped out less than a year later, while I was on holiday. I was eating an orange. Which didn't seem an especially foolish abuse of the procedure. But there you go. So, to recap: $3200 down, for a job that lasted about one-tenth as long as they promised. I now live in the US, and am now in the hole for almost USD10K in an attempt to fix what Dr Karyne De Agapito did. Given this, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that I hate her - for her crooked dealings in the first instance, and her shoddy workmanship thereafter - and that I wish this entire establishment ill.

Today I went in to simply have a tooth filled, and was told by the dentist I had a myriad of other dental problems, one of which was a "very acidic mouth environment". For that, fair enough. But this observation was followed by the presumptuous and frankly, plain rude inquiry of whether I'm a user of "party drugs". To which I declined, rather shocked. Thereafter, I was informed that I had worn my back teeth considerably by grinding, and that if I didn't do something about it soon, I would have "sagging", which is unfortunate because "I'm a very young girl". Considering also that the dentist appeared to be near my age, I felt this to be quite patronising. When I asked whether it was okay to swallow some bitter solution the dentist irrigated my mouth with, she replied rather condescendingly "well, we wouldn't put anything in your mouth you couldn't potentially swallow, would we". She then proceeded to mock her colleagues accent as they proceeded to have a conversation over the top of me. In my humble opinion, technical competence has little to do with exercising discretion or being respectful when dealing with people. I know, because I also work in customer service. I was stunned by the unprofessionalism this dentist displayed. Also for the apparently sorry state of my teeth! Though I'm sure this was an attempt to extort more money from me, which wasn't necessary considering for this visit, I was charged upwards of $380. I definitely wont be returning.

Since I was a tourist, I didn't schedule an appointment and inquired if I could get it fixed relatively quickly. The dental assistant at the front desk was friendly and was quick in offering to find out what the cost would be for me since I don't have insurance in Australia. Since it wasn't too busy at the time I went in, the dentist, Dr. Dong, was able to see me immediately. He was careful in assessing where the problem area was and grinded my retainer down to make it much more comfortable for me. Pretty swift for a relatively young dentist! He wasn't a chatty Cathy, which I appreciate, but was friendly in asking me how I was, how I've been enjoying Sydney, etc. The assistant who aided him in the room was also nice and professional. The clinic itself was nice and clean, and the waiting space is tastefully decorated. There are even some toys for kids to play with! The actual room I was in had a TV up on the ceiling for me to watch the news; nice touch to distract patients or at least calm them down a bit!

On the recommendation of some friends (and based on generally good google reviews) I decided to try…read moreout Elite Dental Newtown in December 2023. I went in for a check up, where I was told I needed two fillings. I took this as given, but had experienced no pain or discomfort before this. I returned the next day to have both fillings at once as they had suggested. At the end of this appointment, they advised that I could return if my bite needed adjusted, and that they would not charge me for an additional appointment. For the next two months after the procedure, I was unable to chew food without a strong sharp pain from the site of the fillings. I called to explain the pain I was in and to book another appointment, but was only able to book one a few weeks out. When I was finally able to return to the dentist, they were dismissive of the pain I described and would only attempt to file down the fillings to adjust my bite. They then tried to charge me for adjusting my bite, even though they had explicitly said they wouldn't. They settled on charging my insurance company only, which is not above board as I have a co-pay arrangement. When I called back shortly afterwards and explained that I was still in pain, they offered to make an appointment 2 weeks later, at which they would inspect the fillings again. If after that I was still having issues, they agreed that they would replace the fillings. At this point I had had enough of the pain. It was bad enough that it caused me to skip multiple meals and eat soft/liquid foods. Because of this, I sought help from another dentist. I let Elite Dental Newtown know, and requested my dental records to send across to the new dentist. This too proved difficult. I had to reach out to them on five occasions over multiple weeks just to have them sent by email. On the final call, the receptionist said she would have the practice manager call me about the issues I had experienced, but as with everything else in my experience at Elite Dental Newtown, this never happened. My new dentist quickly identified that both fillings were not bonded properly, and replaced them. I have not experienced pain since. After telling my friends about this experience they will not be returning to the practice. I would strongly recommend others to avoid it, particularly if you're in need of anything more than a simple check up, or if you could not afford to have a procedure redone at another dentist if it went wrong. Summary: Though I came to Elite Dental Newtown with no pain, I left with strong pain that affected my ability to eat. This was because they gave me two fillings which were not properly bonded. They dismissed my pain multiple times while trying to book in and charge me for multiple appointments before they would agree to fix the issue. On one occasion they illegally charged my insurance company. This mess around meant that I'd been in pain for multiple months before the issue could be resolved. Once I'd decided to seek help from another dentist, they made it unnecessarily difficult to retrieve my dental records. Another dentist was able to quickly identify and resolve the issue.

Let me tell you a story. A few years ago, at the age of 26, I made the grave discovery that my…read morewisdom teeth had decided it was time to terrorize my mouth. I pretended it wasn't happening for a good 12 months, until one day I woke up and noticed that my otherwise perfectly straight bottom teeth had been shoved out of alignment as the malicious good for nothing wisdom tooth tried to battle for a place in my mouth. A place that simply was not there. It was time. I scoured the internet for the least sinister sounding dentist. I found Gentle Touch Dental. Not only do I like things that rhyme, but I also like a dentist that is gentle. I have now been attending this practice for almost three years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. My wisdom tooth extraction was exceptionally difficult, for them, not me, I was in the land of happy gas. I had no complications post surgery and I healed up nicely. They are great and I'd highly recommend them for people who are scared of the dentist.
