I am glad that my company offers this gym as perk and people from various companies in the same campus can attend this gym as well as the one in Torrey Pines (called Exos Torreyana) and another close to the big Qualcomm and a brewery Karl Strauss (go figure, first zumba, next drinking, what a combo:). Anyways, going back to Exos Campus Point, I love all the classes, I have been going for the past couple of months and have tried many. I like the boxing and also the yin yoga, super mellow and ending with the music coming from those magical bowls. Outdoor yoga is also so refreshing and they make every activity look easy and fun. You can also complete challenges, by doing extra activities and punching a card. After 5 activities you get a shirt. Activities can be from hiking, to cleaning beaches to something different from the day to day activities. Best corporate fitness center ever.

SOLIDCORE @ LA JOLLA…read more Parking is available in the shopping center lot. Since this Solidcore location is tucked toward the back of La Jolla Village, there are a lot of surrounding restaurants and stores, so the parking lot can get pretty busy, especially on weekdays and weekends. I was still able to find parking without too much trouble, but I would recommend giving yourself a little extra time just in case. I've been to Solidcore a couple of times before, but I'm usually more of a gym girl than a Pilates person. One of my friends has a Solidcore membership and had a "bring a guest" pass for the month, so I was excited to join her for a full-body class that focused mainly on biceps and legs. The studio itself is pretty small compared to other Solidcore locations I've visited. Since classes run back-to-back, the lobby and locker area get crowded with people coming in and out. We took the 50-minute class from 4:10 PM to 5:00 PM, although they also offer shorter 30-minute classes. Going into the workout, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Since I was still learning the movements, I found myself watching my friend and the people around me to understand the exercises better. Thankfully, it wasn't too difficult to catch on, and I really enjoyed how challenging the workout was. It gave me a great mind-to-body connection, and I definitely felt the burn throughout the entire class. Unfortunately, the instructor completely changed my experience. She was very hands-on in a way that made me uncomfortable. Instead of simply giving verbal corrections, she would physically push my arms or reposition my body without asking first. It felt overly forceful, and having that happen in front of a full class made me even more uncomfortable. I've taken Pilates classes and worked with trainers before, and I've never experienced an instructor correcting me in that way. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed the workout itself and can absolutely see why people love Solidcore. The class was challenging, effective, and left me feeling accomplished. However, because of my experience with the instructor, I personally wouldn't return to this particular location. The workout was great, but the coaching style wasn't a good fit for me.

This isn't like a heated class but you will definitely be sweating by the end. We arrived 20 minutes before class began and we're able to enter the building with a pre-generated code. Before the main room with all the machines, you'll find lockers, bathrooms, and water fountains. We stowed our stuff and once doors opened, we quickly went in to claim our spots. If it's your first time, make sure you come early so there's enough time for the instructor to go over the equipment and how the class works. Instead of weights, the equipment relied on tension and it might not seem hard but the workflows have a lot of holding that tension so you really feel the burn. The beginning started off with a lot of abs exercises and then switched to lower body with some upper body stuff. By the end, I could really feel it in my abs and slightly in my legs. Highly recommend trying at least once! Haley was great and kept a fun energy throughout the class!

But it's thanks to Justin's leadership the entire team inspires me, whether I'm hearing other trainers across the gym or chatting at the front desk, or moved just a bit extra by daily quotes on the whiteboard. Every hard rep is celebrated with high fives and every day I'm not training, the staff is working hard on my nutrition, my growth, and adjustments for chronic pain. John was there to hear *all* my concerns my very first day, top of which was that I've been recovering from an eating disorder since 2012 and had been fearful of training because of triggering language or incentive. John briefed the whole team for me, and 8 months in I've never once had to explain myself or course correct. They got me, they push me, they celebrate with me, and see me as a person they're really invested in. It's obvious that same level of energy and investment carries to all their clients. Today I feel strong, excited, powerful, and healthy. I fit my jeans again, I'm eating better food, and I'm still completely removed from bad habits, all because the iron orr team carries that weight (and counts for me every rep! ;) ) I've come to love them all as friends and members of a big San Diego community and I'm going to train there the rest of my life, on my way to becoming a ripped grandma.

It is currently undergoing a major construction upgrade, and the construction announcements look very promising. I saw many people playing basketball, racquetball, and working out in this gym. Every time I'm in SD, I always swing by for a memory and dip. This last time was atrocious. The place is FILTHY. The lobby upon entry is not welcoming; the entry desk is full of dust and card readers are broken, etc. The pool itself has more chlorine than I ever remember and was the cloudiest I've ever seen it. The lounge chairs are either missing cushions or have ripped covers. The old skool clock (that comes in handy) has been missing the last two times I was there....but the locker rooms. OMG. The tiled showers are SLIMY, there are hair balls and soap scum in every drain. It's not only a walking hazard but just disgusting. I filled my water bottle at the fountain and the next day it had black dots growing on the sides. This place is infested with bacteria and mold. Aquatic recreation facilities require daily deep sanitizing and cleaning and this facility is not being maintained or managed properly. As a campus that invest millions in educational skyscrapers, the funding seems available for maintaining facilities properly. I hope they can get it together. Not only will I miss visiting this facility but future and past students deserve better.

But I…read morestarted coming here once a week since the beginning of Spring quarter because I signed up for a beginners' aerial silks class. There are two floors: the first floor is just a huge basketball court that can be used as a badminton court at night. They have a schedule on the side of the main door that shows all the times of usage. Upstairs, there are three different components. One is for the aerial silks class, the other is for some type of bootcamp (and more aerial silks) and the other is the main gym area. This includes treadmills, a stretching area and weights/racks. Pros: -Good variety of sports equipment and workout equipment! For a place this size, it's already decent. Nothing much to complain! Cons: -A little confusing to navigate around if you are a first timer. Where is East and West balcony...? Just don't be afraid to ask! I'll only speak on the basketball courts, since that's pretty much what I exclusively used here. The courts themselves are amazing. Soft-rims, clear lines, and when it isn't being assaulted by other rec classes' scuffing shoes, great floors! And let's not forget the historical significance! This was the '92 Dream Team's practice facility, and the locale of their only loss (even if it was a scrimmage)! It's kind of breathtaking to think that I'm playing on the same floor where Barkley dunks of Malone, or where Magic Johnson comes back from retirement to dish out a few more beautiful assists. Unfortunately, they redid the floors entirely, and now it's... eh. But the biggest cardinal sin lies in the scheduler's completely disregard towards basketball players (or maybe the entire sport itself). They prioritize rec classes, and other sports in a "basketball" court! Some would argue: "But they pay for those classes!" - That would hold merit if they didn't raise our tuition enough to build an entire basketball stadium, much less an additional court. Shouldn't students - whose single tuition would more than cover an entire rec classes's fees a thousand-fold - be given priority? "Well, what about the other sports!? They matter too!" - They have several handful of combat rooms for karate. They could use the marginal amount of money it would take to renovate the auxiliary rec gym next door and use that exclusively for badminton or whatever. Instead, they keep the blue "lego room" gym for no reason, and over-saddle Main Gym's schedule instead. It's kind of sad that this basketball shrine - which should be a historic landmark dedicated to basketball - is now relegated to the bottom of the barrel. The few times it is open - and it's getting rarer and rarer - is still a treat for an addict like me, but it's not the same as it was before.
