I have to give this place 3 stars because there are both good and bad points to this bank.
THE GOOD:
Everyone speaks English, I can do my online banking all in English, all my statements come in English. This is precisely why I chose this bank; because I wasn't sure what other options I had as a German-challenged foreigner when I arrived in Switzerland 5 years ago. (Since then, I've found out that PostFinance also offers banking in English, but I think this was a later development.)
Also, the facilities are pristine and not too shabby at all. I also like how you can get KeyClub points for using your credit card to redeem for reward purchases and stuff. :)
THE BAD:
Alas, the stereotypes do run a bit true here... they charge a lot of bank fees, and I have found the service to be a bit snobby. I've made decent money in Switzerland, but since I'm not a millionaire, I guess I might be out of my league here sometimes. Case in point--I tried to come here last year to ask if I could get a mortgage for buying a home in Zürich. (I thought I was going settle down here at the time and wanted to invest in something permanent.)
But my client advisor and his trainee kind of laughed at me and said I couldn't afford anything here when they pulled up my bank accounts. And as I was single at the time, they also mentioned that I might meet a guy someday who made more money than me. Perhaps they meant it in a joking way, but I still kind of took offense. :/ read more
