This is a nice, clean station. If you go out the Opfermanngasse exit, there's a Zielpunkt grocery and a little Asian take-out place. Take the Steinbruchstrasse exit to get to the AMS. read more

It's a large railway station with multiple platforms on different floors. It's spacious and very clean. Signage is so very clear and also in English. Besides the shops and the cafes, there is something so touching and always worth noting. There's a statue memorializing the Kindertransport. The statue is of a young boy sitting on a suitcase. This was the train station in 1938 that took over 10,000 young children from Austria, Germany and Czechoslovakia, separating them from their parents, and transporting them to England so they wouldn't face Nazi Persecution. It's a poignant statue and the trauma these children faced should never be forgotten

This is empress Sissi I. of Austria, one of the most famous European monarchs. Besides you have lots of modern restaurants and shops. But I have to say, after all those months of existence after renovation and after lots of negative reviews - the elevators are still stupid, no improvements concerning labelling at all - the post office became even worse, still the same stupid head of the post office Yesterday the head of the post office complaned because a lady just asked whether she might have some more tape for her parcel. People were lined up far outside the post office - is this the first Christmas they experience?! One of the clerks did not want to sell a single stamp to a lady!!!! Everything else is still quite ok. One day they will have injuries at that stupid post office, too many people queued up, even handicapped, people with baby cards and wheelchairs. Even the police showed up because there were so many people - security leak!!!! At least somebody has to get injured, till they react!!!

Most of this station- ticket sales and food court is underground. So it's a little deceiving when walking up to it and only seeing the tracks. There is an OBB office and business class lounge here. I recommend staying towards the center underground in the winter while waiting on your train. The chilly wind comes down the steps quickly. This station connects underground with the U6 and several Rapid trains.
