Montross is a cool, sweet town in the Northern Neck... population about 350 which has been around…read moresince the mid-1700s, but was originally called Westmoreland Courthouse established in 1653! There are not a whole lots of businesses in the town square, but the ones they do have rock! There's a hip little coffee/sandwich/art shop, a pizzeria, a Mexican restaurant, a grocery store, a family diner, a brewery, some historic buildings and the famous courthouse, shops, a funky water tower, a farmer's market, a dollar store, a cute LOVE sign, (etc) and of course A LITTLE POST OFFICE! Yes, it's a boring building, square brick, it needs a facelift! The parking lot it patchy, and it's rather dismal inside, and can use to be spiffed up! Just about all the businesses around here have fabulous mural painted on the sides of the buildings, at last count there were about 14 (seeing these murals is a must if you visit this area), planters and are pleasant to look at, then comes this p.o. eyesore. Come on Montross, step it up, and refurbish this important govt. facility and bring it up to date with the rest of this artsy town! The post office is well-stocked and there's a greeting card kiosk, but no passport services.There's definitely that small town vibe here where the employees know most of their neighbors and give them friendly, helpful service. Serving a population of about 2,000, this is a post office is spacious and has a large parking area. Love the simple white building with an a-frame roof and easy accessible ramps leading up to the porch! Inside is a bay window lined with local newspapers with an "honor code" pay system, a basket of books, and brochures. On the other side, the bay window is full of pretty green plants! So cozy! It's well stocked and super clean. I love the wood accents, the touches of wrought iron, brass, and vintage post office mailboxes. There's a bulletin board with local news and events. The clerk was pleasant and helpful. Loved visiting this government building which was more like a home!! Hours M-F 9:30-12:30/1:30-4:30 Saturday 8:30-12:30 No passport service

They go above and beyond with the extras, such as handling last-minute requests to hold mail or phone calls changing the date of my return, etc. Today, they even managed to get a media mail package to me that had a former address and used the zip code for a post office that has been closed for nearly three years. How may of us…read moreclick away easy peasy ordering STUFF and then have an issue with delivery, I'm sure we've had that problem some point in our life no big deal... when I encountered such a problem at this post office, it was dealt with swiftly. The postmaster explained what happened. Usually when people come to the post office with a complaint, they come in with guns blazing. If you sit and listen instead of listening to respond you will have better success with most issues. This post office is busy, Lexington Park is big and getting bigger. An expansion and taking better care of their employees health could be in order for this location.

I didn't have everything together as it should be but she was more than helpful and had a wonderful attitude. Overall the customer service was above and beyond and I was really pleased because it definitely was not the normal post office experience I've had in the past.
